Couldn't find a suitable thread for this so created a new one.

Saw this morning that the referee at Yeovil's home game yesterday sent off one ball boy for excessive time wasting when throwing the ball back into play. Had been warned, but did it again and got his yellow card. Apparently 7 ball boys were sent off later.

Seen ball boys waste time before but not seen any public punishment for it before.

This is on the BBC Sports app. Sorry, on mobile and don't know how to copy said article across to here.

Yeovil ball boys see red
Under normal circumstances, eight red cards would leave a match on the brink of abandonment. At Huish Park, however, eight red cards were brandished just to keep the contest going.

That's because referee Aaron Jackson decided the ball boys dotted around the pitch for Yeovil Town's National League game against Bromley were hindering rather than helping the action on the field.

With the Glovers 3-1 up heading into the closing stages, it wasn't just the the home players who were engaging in a bit of gamesmanship.

Myself and the rest of the ball boys once got told off by Steve Perryman as he told us we were giving the opposition the ball back to quickly. Well done the YTFC boys

Been happening for years in Europe. Despite the face there should be a multi ball method during matches sometimes the other balls disappear and from around 80 mins they only seem to use one lol

Fair play to the ref

I sit next to a Bromley fan in the office. He was at Yeovil on Saturday.

His account was that with a few minutes to go in the game one of the Yeovil ball boys through the ball away when Sam Wood went to take a throw in. He was warned by the referee but then did the exact same thing a few minutes later and the referee "sent him off".

This led to whoever was in charge of the ball boys removing all of them and marching them past the Bromley fans with a big smirk on his face as they left the pitch.

Given we have advertising hoardings round three sides of the pitch which makes the ball easy to retrieve I have no idea why we still have ball boys at matches.

To throw the ball away if we are leading with 10 minutes left

As you know. The old Cloughie quote goes “aye, but they never add-on all the time that was wasted, do they”
No, we don't haha.
We don't get paid overtime lol
Old saying in grassroots/pub football etc... don't do overtime, don't get paid for it. Try give a penalty or something to avoid extra time if need be in last couple minutes too in a cup match.
Ironically I gave a free kick 25 yards out in a cup match yesterday with score 0-0, and 3 minutes added on already played.... scored. Full time. No chance of an equaliser.

That's taking things a bit too far. Refs taking free kicks so they can go home early :red:
