We didn’t look like conceding. Solid defensively. Janelt, Raya, Henry all very good.

We didn’t look like scoring from open play all match though. A few dangerous set pieces. Kept the ball for large periods too, but never actually opened them up (until the last minute when they were chasing an equaliser). Service to Toney was awful.

Barnsley should have had a penalty at the end. We’ll ignore that bit.

I think we all know there are problems with the side at the moment, you take a 1-0 and move on. But it does paper over the cracks to some extent.

Agreed. Jenelt needs to play there.

Well done Tariqe... got his chance and grabbed it with both hands. Rico unbelievably good (yet again), Raya back to his best and the entire back five just looked solid. But Janelt MoM. A proper player. 22, comes from the lower reaches of Bundesliga 2, and is playing with that maturity, confidence, toughness and skill. Not to mention hand/eye co-ordination 😁 Imagine him, Christian and JDS together. Solid or what!

A good away win against a solid team who were in good form. Bryan and Marcus should have passed and we cold have sealed it with more finesse. Janelt got away with it. Fosu a massive upgrade and Janelt is class. Onto Friday.

Much livelier starting 11. Fosu did very well. Hope Josh is ok because he's been a stand out player and without him and Norgaard on Friday I'd be worried. Janelt was fine but we still need more from him. Defence looked solid. Henry excellent.
All that said, we haven't got our mojo - it was a well-fought win not the cruise we'd have expected last season.
The goal was bloody marvelous though - how can you do that (especially with a top knot)?

When will Mbeumo regain his form? At the moment he loses the ball at every challenge.
his body language is dreadful.....as soon as he loses it his head is down and he gives up........that says it all to me......i wish we had someone who could could com in for him asap as he badly needs some time out......its doing him and us no favours by starting every game......defo has the ability but badly needs a rest and perhaps needs to go on abit of a diet too

Didn’t look like conceding at all, didn’t really look like scoring until we got the set piece goal, looked a lot more confident and controlled play there after.

Noooooo! That is just condemning with faint praise. Lots of players looking for form. Talking of cracks suggests something fundamental but that is not true.

Excellent team performance against an inform team 'up north' in November.

Who is Mic behind the mic on our commentary team? Top comments with a very good radio voice.

I personally think there are fundamental flaws with the team. We are a few players short.

Today’s result was great and needed but it wasn’t exactly the complete performance. Improvement still needed.

Pleasantly surprised by Tarique in the few glimpses we have had of him so far I thought... poor first touch, falls over a lot... but he really had a good game today. Made a difference and his willingness to get stuck in was good to see. A hard won 3 points but we deserved them today. Barnsley defended really well and made things really difficult. Raya, Henrick, Rico. Jansson and Pontus superb today. Big improvement against a well marshalled defence :)

Great result. Much better performance. Well deserved.

We look solid at the back and Janelt has to play every game until CN returns. Fosu did enough to keep the shirt.

JDS taken off as a precaution I hope?

Only shame was that we didn’t score more - Henry first half unlucky, Bryan and Forss should be scoring 2nd half.

He’s an ex BBC reporter who was asked to leave after inappropriate comments about QPR but has been rightly given a second chance and taken it well. You may notice he has trouble pronouncing Mbeumo properly but believe he will be receiving elocution lessons before he’s next selected

Very good result in the end against a very strong Barnsley side who worked incredibly hard, often getting 3 players around our wide men. We started very brightly and with much better tempo, with Fosu and Henry getting a lot of joy down our left side. Struggled to create any clear cut chances though and our inspiration gradually fizzled out and we ended the half with Toney isolated and midfield spread across the pitch. Josh and Jensen often ending up on the wings and no-one supporting Toney. Barnsley had offered little going forward and we looked extremely comfortable at the back. Second half and JDS didn't come out after getting some rough treatment first half. Big worry as he'd been one of the most likely to create in the first half. Perversely though it worked in our favour as Marcondes, his replacement, finally gave us a midfield presence up the pitch and gave Barnsley something different to think about. This allowed us more space on the flanks and gradually we started to take control. A flurry of corners kept the pressure on with half chances coming and going but finally the pressure paid off and Toney flicked in a beautiful header into the far corner. By this point we deserved the lead and you could see the pressure drop off the players once that had gone in. We looked almost totally in control after that and should really have gone two up when Marcondes first time ball put Mbeumo clear through only for him to blast high and wide with his right foot. He came off a little later looking a very frustrated figure. He definitely needs a bit of TLC from Frank and co at the moment. Barnsley made a flurry of substitutions but we totally controlled the game after that. Only potential dark spot was Pinnock trying to usher the ball out and allowing a cross in which looked very much like Janelt handballed. Fortunately the ref didn't see it that way and we comfortably saw the game out, Forss showing he's human by missing a very good chance late on..

Overall, not at our best attacking wise again but credit Barnsley for some incredible defensive work especially first half. Confidence started to flow through the team once we went up and you have to say that we definitely don't look like conceding many at the moment. If we can get the attacking side to click a bit more then we'll be heading the right way up the table.. Good display from Fosu on the left, who'll surely have kept his place for Friday, Raya, again was excellent, sniffing out danger and pinging some superb passes out to the front three. Dalsgaard, Pontus and Henry honourable mentions though Pinnock wasn't quite his 100% best.. MOM for me though was young Janelt who looks like he's really starting to get the way we play and looked a lot, lot sharper today, very strong but good control and some exquisite passing. Think we have another gem here. Credit too to Toney who worked his arse off and won a lot of the ball without anyone being close enough to receive it and Marcondes who's movement and forward passing helped give us the momentum in the second half. Big concern over Josh though, we can't afford to lose him for any length of time. Fingers crossed it was just precautionary..

Anyway, hopefully this will give us the confidence and momentum to step up a gear v QPR on Friday. They'll be more of a threat than Barnsley but a lot more generous at the back.. Should be a good game...

Unbeaten in our last six games, with a haul of 10 points. This despite some serious injury problems. Hardly grounds for despondency and complaints about our supposed failings. Yes, the forward line has been misfiring lately. Yes, one or two key players have been off their game. But there are reasons to believe that we are preparing to go up a gear, for example the fringe players who have stepped up to the plate and done excellent service, Sorenson and Janelt notably. Hopefully Norgaard will be back soon, Mbueno will recover his mojo and Canos his shooting boots. For me DaSilva has been the man of the season to date. His continued presence in the line-up is essential. It may be that a couple of months from now we'll look back and see the Barnsley game as the turning-point in our season. Next for the chopping block: QPR. Roll on Friday.

Can't add too much to what is obvious to most of us. Fosu and Janelt coming in made a big difference. We've been fine defensively for most of the season, but our strongest back line with Janelt in front of them makes us look very solid indeed.
Our midfield is also fine, when Jensen is on form, and by and large we did well in midfield. Hopefully DaSilva will be fine for Friday obviously, but Janelt's ability to break up play makes such a difference. Today, Fosu and Toney looked lively, although Toney's card is marked. And then we have Mbeumo.......🤦‍♂️
If Toney is going to be a marked man, then the two wide players have to step up. Fosu did, Mbeumo did not....again. I argued that his form is partly because the other wing has been highly disappointing so far this season, and with Fosu playing well today, Mbeumo did get into good positions. However, his confidence is so obviously low but I remain hopeful. He's a good player but his form is obviously poor. If Fosu can sustain good performances, I can see the pressure coming off Mbeumo and he can get into good positions if the play can come down the left.
Anyway, a good confidence-building win tonight. Really needed that against a team that seems to have failed to notice that the best way to beat us is to high press us.

but he keeps making the right runs and opening up space. He badly needs one to go in but I don’t think he is a lost cause yet tbh

Yep, was very close with a superb effort from the edge of the box. Needs to work on his right foot but I'm sure we're doing that with him. Still a starter for me as he's a big threat with that left foot, superb crossfield pass in the first half to open them up, worked hard defensively too... It'll come but we need to have a threat on the left and in the centre to give him the space he needs..

We're still lacking a bit of a spark, but what was much better was that we had control of the game, particularly in the second half. That, together with a really solid defence, gave us the platform to take the 3 points even though we didn't create a huge amount.

At times since Frank took over, it's felt like we've been less concerned about actually controlling the game than under Smith and more focused on direct attacks on the opponent's goal. With an attacking line-up that isn't as threatening as last year, that approach hasn't been working in recent games. But tonight, we were patient and ground out a deserved victory. We're not the same team as last season, but we've got it in us to find different ways of winning games, and hopefully this can be the start of some better form.

As soon as some fans realise this the better, we will not be as entertaining as last year. Ollie can be replaced but Said cannot, we were privileged to have these 2 in our team. But ultimately they failed at the last hurdle when it mattered most.

We might need to grind out results, we may win ugly at times this season. We may not be as entertaining but that doesn’t mean we can’t get promoted.

Jenelt is class, Da Silva and Henry have both clearly improved, Toney will comfortably get 20 league goals, Jenson looks better this year and Raya is more than reliable.

We will be there or there abouts this season...

Only saw the highlights but opened them up at least twice - Forss 1 on 1 which he should have scored and Mbeumo 1 on 1 which he should have passed into Ivan for an open goal...

Yes. Look at West Brom last season - a talented but fairly boring team after losing Rodriguez, Gayle and Barnes from their failed play-off campaign. But despite that they kicked on results-wise and got promoted.

The only problem I see is that a lot of reports on Fosu say he can be inconsistent, however he has to start on Friday, I think that is the best
line up we have at the moment.

If you include Raya, yes! We played our normal formation, 4-3-3 with the difference being that each player played in their correct position.

Mbeumo looked p1ssed off when subbed. Hopefully that's a good thing. A couple of goals and he'll be ok. No one had a poor game. No one outstanding. Saving themselves for the only game that matters. COYB.

I think Janelt made the big difference in giving us much more control in midfield and linking defensive and attacking play. We were able for the first time in a while to switch play between the wings which was essential given how Barnsley looked to put 2-3 on to anyone with the ball in an attacking position.

Fitness, energy and effort look like they’re improving. There’ll be a lot of tiredness building with the hectic schedule so I don’t mind fatigue being managed and stamina built over the season. You can see this and that it’s not quite there as eg Pinnock tires towards the end and makes silly mistakes. But it’s getting there and Jansson looks to have benefited from a break. I suspect Norgaard will have done too when he returns.

Fosu played well and gave us energy on the left we’ve missed, combining well with Henry. Mbeumo is still scratching for form but worked hard and had a couple of efforts he was obviously kicking himself for not doing better with. He’s a class player and will come good again.

Marcondes did the job of central attacking midfielder well, was a nuisance and positive. Canos was much improved coming on to play on the right. Ghoddos also did a job, again in part because we set up to let him.

I think we’re playing much tighter to the touchlines than last season so our wingers are not so inverted- we should stick with it as it seems to suit the players now better and doesn’t rely on setting Canos/Fosu/Ghoddos up to fail as the new Said but lets them play as orthodox wingers.

Little tweaks but some cause for optimism as we’re well placed, only a few points behind the top two, hard to beat and once again looking like we have a plan. As confidence and consistency return we can start to get more expansive

I think Toney was coming back from, and still in, an offside position, so if Mbeumo had passed to him it could have been disallowed.
However, agree that we do need to take these one on one chances, as these will appear again and again when we break quickly.

A very good performance for me against a very capable opposition. I don’t think it was a win ugly more a composed and organised tactical win against an opponent that worked very hard to blunt our attack. We could have done with a few like that last season.

Not a pen for me either as it was ball to hand with his arms in a natural position.

Janelt my MoM. He is a great find. CN is not going to just walk back into the side.

When we last played that lot at GP, I reckon there were over 10,000 people making inappropriate comments about them, so Mick is in good company, especially in view of what they tried to do to us back in the ‘60’s!

Just proves that football is a simple game when managers don't try and over complicate matters.

Play players in their best positions and don't play players who are woefully out of form.

For me, Janelt has to play DFM every game until Norgaard is fit. Vitaly looks fit as a butchers dog and more than capable of playing two games a week for the next 5 weeks or so.

Props to Tariq. Really good performance considering how little football he's played and I can only see him improving the more football he plays which will lead to his confidence increasing.

The defence looks really strong at the moment, Pontus seems to be back to his best and the injury break has probably done him a favour getting a month's rest.

Hopefully with Norgaard to come back in a few weeks time, we can start to build real momentum and turn the recent draws into wins.

We currently sit 8th,without really hitting the heights, which is actually quite unBrentford, and hopefully bodes well.

We’ve managed squad rotation well, whether by luck or design.
Jansson looks fresher for an enforced rest, Marcondes looks sharp as does Fosu. Canos looked a much better option coming off the bench and we have Norgaard, Goode & Roerslev to return soon to give us a boost.
If we can get Ghoddos up to speed and potentially strengthen with 1 or 2 wide players in Jan we will be there or there abouts at the end of the season.
We don’t have the magic touch we had last season but look like we are more capable of grinding out results when we’re not playing at our best.
