That's true, except for the 'unlucky' bit. One shot on target and plenty off target.Unlucky Bees, draw would have been very fair but a moment of real quality won it for them.
Take the positives, 4 games against established PL teams and we have looked just as good as any of them.
Really? Was only able to listen to bits of it on bees player but unfortunately actually heard more of the Brighton fans throughout the game than ours.First half we were excellent, should have been a couple up but Bryan was very wasteful (though every other aspect of his play was superb again today).
Second half was pretty poor by both sides. Brighton much better over the last 10 mins and you could feel the goal coming. We began to look very tired, particularly Bryan and Toney (who had both worked their socks off), would like to have put some fresh legs up top.
In the end, a game we were reasonably comfortable in but has been snatched from us undereservedly at the end.
Odd to come out of the first 4 games and feel we deserved a lot more than 5 points!
Confident we’ll be fine, we’ve shown we can compete, need to take our chances though.
As a side note - how embarassing were the Brighton fans? Showed they could make a noise at the end, but heard barely a peep from them all game. Shocking fans.
They were sporadically very loud but I was in the East stand and only a block away from them. West stand didn’t sound as loud or near as continuous as for Arsenal. We can do better v our next league opponents here… Liverpool (pinch me!).Didn't hear any BHA singing at all on the roger melly, all Bees
just to be clear - you didn’t go to the game and you are commenting (at length) on something you didn’t watch. Correct? If today’s game is judged on stats alone we need to be very worried. We had just 1 shot on target (6 off target), 0 blocked shots, just 1 corner.
Yet iI am reading that we were brilliant or great. If this is anything but the minimum required each game we are going to severely struggle.
Far more can often be learned from a defeat than a win, and I hope that is the case. We have to force goalkeepers to make saves, the more the better. We need to earn corners and freekicks in their third. I know we are now missing MBS long throws which although are very unreliable can create pressure and further set pieces.
The referee was certainly not a homer and many of the chants I could hear on the radio were from us “asking for a referee” & “you don’t know what you are doing”. Even BBC Radio Sussex was surprised Veltman wasn’t booked in the first half for his second foul on Rico. They said Brighton were lucky to avoid cards when we had 2 booked early in the first half.
I do worry that more teams will try and withstand our first hour knowing that we are running out of gas for the last twenty or thirty minutes. This has happened in all 4 games so far. Against Arsenal when Frank went off with 10 minutes to go, we looked less of a team, fortunately we were already 2-0 up.
I really hope we get a positive reaction against Wolves and the early kickoff time might just help us. With Liverpool at home and West Ham away to follow, it is tough run before Chelsea & Leicester both at home.
