We had chances in first half, but you could see how it was going just before half time. 3 points and a clean sheet, immense for defence and confidence. Goode or Toney MOM for.me. Worry was our passing, too many below par performances but we got there. I really hope there are no injuries though, just as we are getting players back. Liked Baptistes cameo.

It does not matter if I do not understand how to make the system TF set up works but it is important the players do. Second half we looked more than a little unsure of how to make it work so everyone just dropped back. I am sure it will improve. Hate to criticise one of our players but Goode, really?

I think Beckles would have loved to have been at the game to see us have the audacity not to lose to a team which is hoping for a top 6 finish at the start of the season.

... not only not lose but fighting to eventually beat them.

Before we start saying, he was sh*t, he's not good enough we aren't PL, can we not just enjoy competing in every game and take a moment not to forget where we have come from.

Clean sheet. A victory. A home win. What is there to be concerned about? Not our best performance but good enough.
We were good enough to beat Everton, but Everton were poor, despite all their 2nd half possession. Was it deliberate that we allowed them the midfield in the 2nd half?Curious tactics!

Those are the kind of wins that keeps a team up. If we're honest for large parts we struggled in quality, Rafa got on top of our offensive threat and practically made it non existent in the second half. The high ball is very easy to defend against for the traditional physical centre halves. In the second half they ran the midfield but a mix between them having no real threat up top and us defending very well got us through that second half.

It is a massive three points and there'll be similar battles to come during the winter, we showed we can win those battles so a fantastic day and big big result. 16 points; I'd say we are two short of the 50% total we'll need to stay up and there is still 5 games before the second half of the season starts. We're in a good place!

Thought Goode was one of our MOM.

At every level I've ever seen us play I've seen games where we've struggled, scrapped and ground out a win. Today won't live long in the memory but we got 3 points so hey, that's OK. Sone of the comments on here are remarkably harsh.
Totally agree with your last sentence. I can’t recall ever seeing a pub team defence keeping a clean sheet against a premiership team and despite all their possession second half I don’t think Everton created a clear cut chance. No we weren’t great today and had I been watching the game on TV as a neutral I’d have probably switched over to Bargain Hunt. And if anyone under estimates the impact of our injuries, then look no further than todays opposition

I’m far from being a paid-up member of the Charlie fan club, but to pick him out for criticism today is bizarre. The boy done seriously goode today and IMHO only Ivan would be ahead of him in the MOTM stakes. He can hold his head high tonight.

Christ what a load of negative garbage on here tonight.

Everton have one of the best managers in the league and were expected to attack the top 4, a few injuries and a bit of stuttering but they still have a squad jam packed with internationals. We just beat them, it was a scrappy, but that’s how you win games sometimes.

Goode was immense all game, the keeper had 3 kicks that were a bit short but why focus on something so fixable rather than another 2 brilliant saves, every cross caught comfortably and played out from the back as good as any keeper I have seen.

Sergi was not at his best and poor set pieces but over all a steady defensive display, BM ran them ragged and Ivan battered the defence and also won countless defensive headers,

After 4 defeats I am delighted to scrape out an ugly win and three more points, all your fancy Dan football can wait until we are safe.

We looked a bit tired second half but we were doing a lot of chasing,

Anyone worried, concerned or underwhelmed needs to go away and leave us to it, another massive premier league scalp taken,

Just for the record we ditched the silky football last season and that’s why we went up.

Last home league win was I believe the opening fixture. We have been on a 4 (?) game losing streak. We have suffered a series of injuries which have seriously effected our small squad.

Today watching on TV we had chances to bury Everton but failed to take them, Frank and Brian. We got a penalty and Mr cool did what he does!!🥰🥰

Second half Everton jigged their system whilst for us the importance of the win began to weigh heavily on the players and our composure vanished like a snowball in Jamaica.

The defence worked very hard and special mention to Goode who had a fairly accomplished game despite all the naysayers on here pre match. Toney was immense the midfield pretty average Fernandez did well

Lots of criticism on here and certainly it was not, in the second half, a game to remember. However in context of our survival in the top league it could prove to be the most vital scrappy game we have played.

We are new to this league, the only experience our players have of the top league is this season: compare and contrast with the experience of the opposition, we are fighting, and fighting hard learning on the job. Yea a poor performance but an important 3 points so focus on the positives not the negatives and look at those teams below us who would have bitten our hands off for a scrappy 3 points

Just back home and skimmed through some of the comments. Can't say I agree with anyone that says this was a "poor" performance. It was a scrappy game, for sure, but most of our players had decent games, especially the defence. And probably Fernandez and Goode had their best games in a Bees shirt (admittedly a fairly low bar, but they both played well).

We will not out pass teams in this league, it's about finding other ways to get results. We've done it pretty well so far, save for a couple of recent forgettable ones. This game actually reminded me a bit of the Arsenal one - we got the early goal and then let them have the ball / territory but without conceding many chances. We probably had a bit more dynamism in that first match, and obviously we got the 2nd goal, but otherwise there were a lot of similarities in my opinion.

Finally, we should remember we've gone 5 games without a win before this one. Grinding out a result was exactly what we needed. And we deserved it because we managed the game pretty well, in many ways a much more deserved 3 points than the West Ham win.

Anyone unhappy with that has clearly forgotten where we’ve come from. Remember shipping 7 (seven) goals at Peterborough?
:imwith:
As will appear in tonight’s Fact Check, 13 years ago today we lost 2-1 at Barrow in the 2nd round of the FA Cup.

Anyone disappointed that we’ve only beaten Everton 1-0 in the Premier League needs to give their head a very big wobble.

For all the moans about how we played today. Think about the Chelsea, Norwich and Leicester games which we did more than enough to win but got nil points. Today we had to dig in and got 3 points. So I am not going to question how we played. The players needed a confidence building today and as a result of the effort they put in they got it.

Thought it was a great win. Sure Everton are out of form and we had to dig out the result but that's football and at this level every win is vital to staying up. Thought defensive wise we were magnificent and the midfield and attack worked ever so hard to enable us to defend as a team. We made some very highly paid superstars in the Everton team look very ordinary. The quality of our passing and possession play in the second half could have been better but it was a bit backs against the wall stuff and in these circumstances you do what you have to do to take the win.

A great confidence boost and pressure release as we go into this heavy sequence of games.

Ivan and Goode I thought were outstanding.

Outstanding (re Goode) is stretching a point. He did okay though. I hope it boosts his confidence for the coming month, starting with Spurs on Thursday.

Better to grind out a win over a poor Everton side than create loads of chances, like we did against Chelsea, and lose. I'd take another half dozen performances like this if we take three points each time.
OK. But by God, it was a hard watch in the second half....

I'm also delighted that Everton got 0 points for their lack of respect beforehand, their appalling gamesmanship when Rico got injured and their fury that their team dare lose to us. f*** off home you classless ****s.
Absolutely that was disgraceful Henry was down and it felt over a minute of play went on…yet we put the ball out for them in the second half…classless club
Will have to watch the game back to see, but some are saying that as we played on after Rico went down, we can hardly criticise Everton?

Put it in perspective, we deserved to beat Everton who along with Arsenal have never been relegated from the top level.
We weren’t at our best and didn’t play particularly well but we didn’t deserve to lose against Brighton, Chelsea or arguably Leicester.
Goode was very good, Norgaard is everywhere, Janelt and Toney were superb today.
