It does not matter if I do not understand how to make the system TF set up works but it is important the players do. Second half we looked more than a little unsure of how to make it work so everyone just dropped back. I am sure it will improve. Hate to criticise one of our players but Goode, really?
You, really ?

His passing is outstanding
There was one quick kick he did second half where loads around jeered, thinking he’d booted it into touch, but then admired how he’d put a load of spin and swerve on it so it landed nicely for a winger to control.

He is proper bonkers though- close up he spent most of the time gesticulating to nobody in particular, pretending to be a cat etc.

We just beat EVERTON FC.

Ive seen my little old Brentford take LEAGUE wins off

ARSENAL
WEST HAM
EVERTON

Let that sink in chaps. People saying we arent playing like a Prem side?!?!?!?!?! Makes me want to throw up.

We have played better football against Chelsea, Brighton and Leicester with no points.

Today was about fighting for a win and we did!.

Proud of the team and the club tonight.

Now for Spurs!. 😆

We need to make up our minds. Are we a team that plays in the premier league or a premier league team. At the moment it looks like the former.

Not sure what your point is really, but FFS we’ve just got our 16th point in our first season in the Prem with less than a third of the season gone with probably the lowest budget in the league. Yes, today wasn’t the prettiest and we probably rode our luck a bit after getting less than we deserved against Chelsea, Leicester and Norwich.
So much to enjoy and be proud of. It’s so much more fun than sniping.

Worst game of footie I’ve ever been….but seeing my mates in the away end losing their sh*t was unreal. 1-0. Deserved it 🤥
Really ?
Give me a little time and a lot of paper and I could probably list about 500 Bees games I’ve seen worse than that. Perhaps you’ve only started going this season, in which case I make you right.

Not probably the lowest my friend, it’s less than half the next smallest and that’s public knowledge. Far more positives than negatives

Not the best game of football but we have seen brilliant performances against Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea (ok we lost, but how good were we). I wonder if we getting a bit spoilt?.

Really proud of the team today, they had to work hard and yes, we not at our best. However, we have just beaten Everton in the PL. What's there to moan about, if you were there to witness it (or watch on tele) think yourself lucky.

I enjoyed the day out, the entertainment, the win! I also thought they was some class moments off the pitch with the tributes and applause to those that could Not be there.

Take Care out there.

A very good win and 3 points needed and got but I wouldn't make a thing of Bees beating the mighty Everton. They beat a competent but quite poor side that had a lot of possession but couldn't do anything with it. They just happen to be called 'Everton'.

Some of you give your heads a wobble.

We have just beaten a side that have spent £500million in the last 6 years.......................... We have spent £50-60 million. Have a think about that for a minute.
We haven't even spent that if you consider the incoming transfer fees. We must be seriously in profit when it comes to transfer activity. Great club, great result, very good first half, a bit wonky second half but it didn't matter because their lot offered nothing. They were crap. We did a job on them. What are people moaning about?

Here is your Sunday night Fact Check courtesy of Untouchable (‘Return of the Facts’ edition):
  1. Win 1-0 at home to Everton ✅
  2. First win in 6 games ✅
  3. First clean sheet in 8 games ✅
  4. Forget all this nonsense about Everton’s form and injuries, they’re a massive team and we’ve beaten them. Their team today includes the England goalkeeper; Seamus Coleman (300 PL appearances and 60 international caps); Ben Godfrey (signed for £25m); Andros Townsend (250 PL appearances); Doucoure (signed for £20m); Iwobi (signed for £28m and 50 international caps) ✅
  5. First league win v Everton since October 1953✅
  6. Fernandez is getting better each game. Made an excellent save just after our goal. Handling and distribution much improved too. ✅
  7. Charlie Goode had a rock solid first PL start. I’m not interested in hearing from the haters - he’s come into a depleted team and done his job well. Keep it up Charlie ✅
  8. There is no better penalty taker than Ivan Toney right now. Watched Pickford shift his weight slightly to his left and then bang, ball is in the opposite corner. He’s all over the pitch too. Immense and irreplaceable ✅
  9. Wissa’s back! Only on the pitch for a handful of minutes but caused chaos. He’s going to score a hatful when he’s reestablished in the team ✅
  10. For anyone still thinking about complaining about the performance, 13 years ago we lost 2-1 away to Barrow in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup. Today, we’ve beaten Everton (9 times Champions of England and 5 times FA Cup winners) in the PL. Perspective please ✅
  11. Up to 12th in the PL ✅
  12. GD back up to 0 ✅
  13. After 13 games, we’re only 2 (TWO) points behind Manchester United. Every BFC fan is taking that at the start of the season ✅
  14. We’re as close to the Champions League places as we are to the drop zone ✅
  15. 10 points clear of Newcastle and 7 points clear of Norwich and Burnley ✅
  16. For those keeping count, last season it took Fulham until match week 23 to reach 16 points; WBA until match week 26 and Sheffield United until match week 33 ✅
  17. A special mention to the sun for blinding the Everton fans and shielding them from their teams abject performance 😉✅
  18. Spurs next. We haven’t played them in the league since 1949 and haven’t beaten them in the league since 1948. Our record against them is appalling. But they were embarrassed by NS Mura in their last game and Conte said the ‘situation is not simple’. I fancy Spurs are getting smashed ✅

With apologies for the recent lack of post match Fact Checks. Mrs Untouchable is very poorly and recent news means her life limiting conditions have become a bit more troubling. Although I’ve continued to post on the GPG, it simply hasn’t felt as important.

It felt right today. Pre match it just felt right. Home win right time right place to do it.
A chance to win against a side bang out of form and their best players.

We went with Goode who was ever so Good as our right side part in the back three.
Pontus after a rare average performance at the Toon last weekend was brilliant in his thou shalt not pass mood with attitude. His Swedish dark mutterings standing over at a dramatic dying swan Digne made him look like a frightened rabbit as jumped to his feet, Pontus chose the right time to inject life into the second half.
Pinnock is Ying to Pontus’ Yang. Together they are our best back pairing in the last 70+ years.
Rico as good as ever until clattered by a frantic Sergi who had a mad 10 minutes after he got a brain freeze yellow card holding the arm of the Everton player like a kid at nursery hanging on to his mother.
Sergi wears his heart on his sleeve but played a poor game in the head, set piece deliveries were over or undercooked like a bad baker.

Alvaro our Spanish Keeper grows in confidence by the week one save by Rondon as we still bathed in the glory of going 1 up was top notch. A clean sheet and apart from a couple of shanked kicks his handling was safe and sure. Norgaard and Janet tremendous again one in thought and plays interceptions like a chess player, Janet like Arnie our running man. Frank the Tank took a mouthful of leather from Townsend for the pen and clocked up the miles.

Bryan was Bryan like Billy Whizz on speed, his right foot and pirouette drives us to distraction, but we have a player of raw talent and that is Brentfords DNA in the brave new world.
Step forward the Ice man, Toney looked at Pickford and despatched his penalty as Ivan does. England keeper king of pens - it ain’t necessarily so, Ivan showed him that even Jorginho needs to watch and learn. Ivan tracking back clearing headers winning tackles, flick ons and pressing and just generally marshalling his team. He’s our poster boy and here was the reason for this.
It was a game of not much, Evertons 4 in the middle flooded our 3 and made us drop deeper but in truth the Toffee chewed and chewed to not much effect.
We hustled and pressed and moved the ball well after the goal but the second half we watched the clock more than the Everton crosses. Everton were like Dracula as they avoided any cross in the Bees box.

Thomas played safe and let the game drift naturally towards its ending whilst Benitez looked a shadow of the manager from times gone by. More like a ticket collector than a trophy collector.
It was a big win, a huge win, our 4th in 13, remember Newcastle have none. As Terry Hall from the Specials once said it ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it and that’s what gets results! He wasn’t wrong!
Thomas shook Rafa by the hand and nodded, Arteta, Moyes and now Benitez all got the same look of They have been Brentford‘d!

We sit 12th a third of the season gone. With Wissa and Baptiste returning for cameos today the cold wind of winter didn’t feel so raw. Brentford beating Everton for 3 Premier League points, is this is our 15 minutes of fame, others may think that, but you get the feeling we know this 15 minutes may stretch a lot longer than the Premier League big boys think!
On to Spurs and another 60k crowd on Thursday nothing to fear, everything to gain, lets not stop the ride yet, I'm pretty sure none of us want to get off!

It was a tough watch, but what do we expect, smallest budget, lowest salary bill and a few key injuries in the Premiership against a team that were expecting to challenge for the top 6. Happy for Charlie, he was very Good although has to be careful with the shirt pulling, he got away with one there. Toney is just awesome, has to be on the radar of some top clubs. Good to see some of the injuries coming back. Will be tough Thursday with Tottenham having a rest but will be great experience for everyone going!!

Great post. These Covid times can be very troubling for some and I hope that your wife recovers well and gets the quality back in her life.

Ok fair enough about the Rico incidence. Why the feck the ref didn't blow for FFT getting a head injury is beyond many of us.
Because he was incompetent and only wanted to give decisions to the bigger team, same as every other game really.

I may have missed earlier posts as this is the first I've seen of this thread. Goode had a really good game I thought. One outstanding tackle straight out the top draw, good throw ins in the attacking third, always involved and held his position well. overall I was impressed. what do others think?

99% of people think the same as you, a very small island of fans saw a league 2 clogger who was out of his depth apparantly. The mind boggles, some people do not deserve this team.

It's strange, left the ground thinking how much we'd scraped a result and how it felt like we'd played really poorly.

Got in and watched whole game again on catch-up and revised my opinion significantly. We weren't great, sure, but we didn't actually play that badly overall, we created the better chances, Goode had a great game, Toney was everywhere (which may be part of the wider problems?), they had lots of possession but couldn't do anything with it, and we've ground out a result and a well-needed win against a "big club", even if they're scratching around at the moment. What was interesting was that when some of our passes went awry, that was usually down to players trying something inventive i.e. not being afraid to play.

There were downsides, the main ones being the amount of histrionics and abuse from a few people in the West Stand sadly. If this is what people are going to get like when we're winning 1-0, god help us when we're losing. Yes some players didn't perform to their ability and I think we all know one in particular who fluffed his lines with more or less every dead ball he took ownership of, but where does all this negativity and hostility come from? Against that, the noise from the stands was awesome listening to it on the TV, really proud how we roared them home and saw a few tweets from toffees saying how good the home support was yesterday.

“Worst game ever”, “out of our depth”….

Jesus wept. We beat Everton in front of 17,000 to go 12th in the PL and are three points behind Man United.

Anyone would think we’d just scrapped a draw with Fleetwood to stay lower mid-table in League One.

Slightly off topic but agree with the comments about Pickford. Mad as a box of frogs but incredible distribution and a great keeper. Love him for England.

Sadly, I think he’ll go to Spurs in the summer as all of the other ‘big six’ are pretty much set for keepers.

Yes, the number of times I heard moans and groans about passing backwards (have these guys not watched us over the past few years, we’ve long had a strategy of going back or sideways if there’s nothing on?!) and being too slow while grumbling when an ambitious quick pass gets intercepted (we’re playing Everton, not Wycombe!) was annoying. If we were faster and more unerringly accurate with players making the perfect runs we’d be challenging top 4! Give them a chance and accept it’ll take more than 13 PL games to get up to that level!

Beumo hasn't had many comments - how did he play guys? (match not on tv here in South Africa).

Not great, tried very hard but wasnt at his best.

He had a very good chance in the first half where he hit it straight at the keeper (but was with his right foot!)

5.5/10 IMO

Another game won by the poorer xG side...

Take away our penalty (0.8) and it was a poor day for going forwards...

Got up at 5.30 yesterday morning, got back at 10.00 p.m. but who cares. We are holding our own in "The World's Best League"(apparently).
Some of the comments on here are ludicrous...But The Usual Suspects cannot stop themselves, always ready to get in with sarky comments and disparage players ,tactics,coaches...We are massively over-achieving,just enjoy it and stop bloody whingeing.

Yep, that was one of things causing much ire. "Effing kick it forward", "why they pissing about like this?" etc etc. Yes it can be a bit heart in mouth at times but if we're just lumping it forward, we're simply turning over possession every time (and that happened anyway a few times yesterday),

Similarly, much opprobrium for Frank when Rico was subbed, despite the fact he'd got clattered by Sergi earlier on when those w*nkers wouldn't put the ball out. Also forgot to say that I was impressed that Frank bought Wissa on to try and make the game safe, very bold substitution and almost paid dividents.
