In theory a different formation would be worth a try. In practice, you can't expect a team that has been coached at First and B Team level for years to be very good at a completely different formation after 2-3 training sessions. At our best, the players move according to planned tactics so their team mates know where there ought to be someone to pass to without having to look up. Doing something new would be like when we watch Said at WHU trying to work out his defensive positioning. He's had half a season to do it and is working hard at it, but it doesn't look natural and it doesn't look anything like the peak performances he can give playing a freer, more purely attacking role. Even with 433 we're going to see Bryan having to think like a central striker and MBS adjust to LB. That'll be hard for both of them, but in roles just one along from their usual and where they know from their normal position what the CF and LB would be expected to be doing in our set up. I expect neither of them to do it brilliantly tonight. Having four or five players in that situation would be risky.
It's a two month solution in all likelihood. Bryan's in the last chance saloon for me, he must start producing.I don't think MBS is a long term solution at LB but we should be alright for this game against one of the weaker Championship attacks. Interested to see how the front 3 works. COYR!
