I am a Leyton Orient fan and I come in peace and to ask for your help.

In 2012, London hosted a fantastic Olympics, but the legacy of that event could be the very future of smaller football clubs with a long and proud history. The bill for reconversion of the stadium stands at £272m with West Ham United only contributing £15m. Boris Johnson, the LLDC and the government, refuse point blank to publish the rental agreement that sees the taxpayer forking out for repairs, water, electric, pitch maintenance, stewarding and even policing costs, meaning a massive state aid giveaway – an unfair subsidy on competition between ALL clubs, and not just those closest to the Queen Elizabeth Park.
A joint London coalition of eight fans trusts (with several other trusts also looking to back over the weekend) have started a petition which we urge EVERY football fan and taxpayer to sign – the link to the petition appears below – and to share with friends, family and work colleagues.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/106355

Good luck for the rest of 2015/2016 and beyond

There is a deeper issue here than 'you're Orient, boo!'. I for one support your stance, the whole thing is fairly ridiculous.

Correct, why should a competing London club get the sort of subsidy West Ham are getting? £15 million towards a new ground, whilst tax payers pick up the tab for the rest? Some tax payers are even Millwall fans - they can't be too pleased at paying for the Hammers.

This arrangement is bad business for the government. All highly predicatable and down to the short-sighted "legacy" promises made by Coe and others running the Olympic bid. It is effectively a massive subsidy for WHU.
No wonder Orient and Charlton and others are unhappy given the impact WHU dumping tickets on the market will have. I have signed.

Imagine how we would feel if QPR received this benefit for the new stadium they want - while we (Matthew Benham) has to go through the Lionel Road saga to get our new ground.
Signed.

Signed. Had an argument with a West Ham fan on holiday a couple of years ago about this. When he found out I was a Bee he said "oh a proper club, like us, not those Premiership tossers". I told him exactly what I thought about them trying to put Orient out of business. :mad1:

Interestingly that when discussing this with other fans groups when the subject of how Man City got their stadium arose the conversation was shut down....

Hi Bees fans,
Many thanks for your help and some of the kind comments. We may be "rivals" or certainly have been in the past but might not be at the moment as you seem to have left us behind somewhat, but as one forum member makes a good point, imagine if QPR received this level of help ........

We have stated that this is not about our rivalry with the Hammers and this state subsidy affects every club. I believe that Lionel Road is being funded very much by Matthew Benham and Brentford in full - so where is the Bees state aid for your own exciting project and why are City Hall not paying for your stewarding, policing, pitch, water, electric and goalposts!

Truly touched by the level of support from you and many other clubs. Good luck tomorrow at Turf Moor!

Just a mailing list, and as in the discussion was moved back to topic and the Premiership fans didn't want to engage.

Also Charlton have been spearheading the campaign saying that West Ham are going to steal their fans (I accept Orient have a valid case here) but wouldn't answer me when I questioned about them bussing fans in from Kent and stealing Gillingham's.

I have signed by the way, I just like to point out that not everyone is whiter than white.

Fair enough. I imagine everyone has objected to Ealing Council gifting QPR Holdings a mere 61 acres at Warren Farm as well.

I'd probably feel the same as if I learnt that they will be gifted a huge chunk of land on the Ealing-Hounslow borders much nearer to Brentford than Shepherds Bush. Oh.

Signed. The desire to try and prevent the Olympic stadium from being considered and, labelled by politicians and others, a 'white elephant', is driving a poor decision

Now Chiswick (proud to be a YIMBY)
Signed.

P.S. One small overlooked detail about this is that Newham Council actually gave financial support to WHU over this move.

I know that this will (may?) give them access to the Boleyn Ground for redevelopment etc, but this was also helping WHU to move to another Borough...

Why do you feel the need to always correct people? Does it make you feel better about your own life? Strange.
