A very late defeat which is hard to take, considering we were undoubtedly the better team in the second half. However, as frustrating as it is to lose so late on, it was so pleasing to see that performance; we didn't let heads drop, took the game to them, created chances, fought for the ball and did everything but score.

First half was even, in that we had more possession but they had more chances. Pen looked soft, forward took a touch into a crowd of Bees and was always gonna fall over- and the ref couldnt wait to give it. Cocky 11 chipped it down the middle.

We then woke up and tried to get back into the game. Weston and Spillane put some dangerous crosses in and MacDonald shouldve scored from one, but hit the keeper from 4 yards. They kept breaking and creating but Lee was never troubled.

Second half and a different team came out. We were hungrier and Pim, Beany, KOC, Weston, Charlie and Spillane never gave up running. We began creating chances and Charlie had a clear pen turned down after chasing a loose backpass. To be fair, they also could've had a pen after a cross blatantly hit Spillane's arm.

We then continued to press them but couldn't find an equaliser, with slight deflections and run of the ball going against us. Forster came on and played very well, creating space and winning / holding the ball up. Eventually we put together a move of real purpose and played across from right to left; Woodman crossed and the clearance dropped to Beany 18 yards out. His half volley was saved but rebounded out and 3 Bees were waiting to hammer it home; unfortunately Spillane decided to touch it straight into their keeper and our chance had seemingly gone, but Weston chased it to the right wing, cut inside and hammered a shot into far top corner. His shot hit the post and Laird was on hand to finally touch it home. Fully deserved and a good celebration, ESP with Bean running to the crown.

We then pushed for a winner but it eluded us, with Charlie in particular just failing to connect with a Weston cross. However it wasn't to be and they got a winner through Craig Mackail-Smith's quality and persistence - a scissors kick was blocked so he followed up, cut inside and shot again which was blocked again, then as a cross came in he smashed an overhead kick which was touched in. His class showed in the end, surely they won't hang onto him.

So overall we were unlucky but I'm not disheartened. Yeovil was soul-destroying for its lack of commitment and invention but tonight was very, very different and shows that there is still hope for our season.
E

We had loads of possession and hunted the ball down when we didn't have it, which was great to watch. No one can doubt the players' commitment based on that second half.

I feel like I've been mugged! Battered them in the second half and played some good stuff too. Spillane made a big difference IMO. The injustice is that the winner came in time added on for their play acting. Grrrr

Thanks for that. Good to read something positive from someone who was there. On the Match Latest thread, there was the usual hysterical reaction that seems to follow any goal we concede, let alone game we lose.

I had posted a comment elsewhere about how bemused and dejected I felt about our league form to date. However, your reports indicate that although we lost we did show an improvement on the Yeovil performance. We certainly lack any consistency in the league form , hence the dissagreement on whether we are play off contenders or relegation candidates, I'm none the wiser.

Second hand but spoke to Northampton Bee - it was a bad, very crackly line and I thought I heard him say something like he thought AS deserved all his plaudits and support after such a decent performance.

Maybe not.... but NB was very complimentary about our display.

Im pleased to hear we played well (for the second half at least). But we still lost, and we keep losing.

Spillane playing well further cements in my mind that Scott hasnt got a clue-why hasnt he played all season? Same goes for when Saunders finally got a game and results picked up.

Yes I wasnt at the game tonight, so I guess I shouldnt comment in this thread-and am open to abuse from those who did go, who will no doubt go on to explain how we played like Barcelona in the second half. But you have to ask why myself and so many others arent going as often-the drivel we are served up 9/10 when we have made the effort this season

Nice to see its not all doom and gloom . I expect the same attitude going into fridays game against Exeter with perhaps a better result ?

Could be worse I suppose Plymouth wil be forced to put out half their reserve team after selling the core of their squad and getting two sent off tonight at Huddersfield . Oldham got battered by Southampton too . Its a mad league this year who knows whats going to happen ?

Don't be fooled we did nothing for 70 mins

I'm not a Scott fan, but have to disagree with you on this fella. First half was fairly even but we didn't really create enough chances and it wasn't very pretty. Second half was all one way traffic and we bossed the game. Believe it or not we played a fair bit of tippy-tappy', especially after we scored.

Ref was one of the biggest homers that I've ever seen.

So much better, we even went tippy tappy in the 2nd half, I could only see one winner after the equaliser and was feeling gutted at only leaving with one point. However, we lost and we know how to lose, no anger from me as I can always live with an unlucky loss when we have put in a shift. Spillane makes so much difference but our manager is so reluctant to play him, what you lose defensively (not that much IMO), you gain tenfold going forward. Now if only Forster had some sharpness for his one on one or Charlie had thrown himself at that chance, we'd be 6th.
Another loss but that sh*t performance from Yeovil was miles away from that tonight, Laird looked tidy, kept the ball and passed, lovely to see some tippy tappy but the season is running away from us.

Diving waankers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boyd, Tomlin, McCann and Miserable-Smith.......how and why do refs fall for it.

Terrible marking for the winner, far too much time for CMS to do his bit.

I was there. We really played well for the last quarter of the game. Why can't we do it more. Again, when playing well the ball was mostly on the floor. MW had a much more effective game tonight, and it was interesting listenening to BBC Cambridgeshire on the way home that it was considered their goalie wasn't only mom for some it was his best performance ever in a Posh shiirt.

You weren't even there.....

Read the original post , it mentions something we did within the first 70mins :)

You're not doing yourself (or fans who want to read how we played) any favours, by pretty much saying the guys who bothered to go to the match are lying... :nono:

Tippy-tappy is overstating it quite a bit. This was not a game of great quality from either side; there was little in the way of flowing football, and even the atmosphere took its lead very much from the (impeccably observed) minute's silence before KO in honour of a former Posh player who died recently (very young I think - there seem to be quite a few stories like this recently - what's going on?)

Our support was very thin on the ground actually, but we did have something to shout about, particularly after the equaliser. I felt anticipation at that time that we could go on and win it, and this seemed to be coming true as we stepped up a gear and took the game to them well. This is why it was so galling to lose - that and the fact that throughout the game, several of their players seemed to like to throw themselves on the ground - and stay there - at the slightest touch (and in some cases, no touch).

This game made a mockery of the pessimism in the predictions for it. We were pretty solid in defence and with a better run of the green would surely have come away with a win.

The general consensus of opinion from the reports are very favourable and these include supporters that have critical of AS. I'm getting excited about this tippy tappy football on Friday!!! That a record for me, 5 posts in one night!!! Hoof ball beware!!!

I think some fans only read us and go with us if it suits, that's a shame, people who have squirmed their way onto the boardroom invite accuse you of not being truthful because it doesn't suit their agenda.
We lost tonight and that's sh*t but we put up a fight and that makes it acceptable, the next person who wants to accuse me of having it in for Scott should remember that I will always say what I see at games. I'd still wake up smiling if he gets poached tonight.

It's a fun way of saying we passed and moved a bit, it was more tippy tappy than anyone could have dreamed of. We have been shocking since Soton, I thought they won back a bit of self respect after Yeovil tonight, we're Brentford fans and we know how to lose, it doesn't require people in Paris or Plymouth to remind us of that. All we need is a performance, if that performance yields points then all is good.

On last train back to Gatwick

Had Peterborough running scared in the last 20 minutes only to conceed so late.

Better to be going for the 3 points than draw.

Only sad that took us so long to get so positive in our play.

My man of match Weston.

Relieved Boro fans on train back to Kings Cross!!!

With the greatest of respect to the other posters who've taken the time to post a match report, this is the post which matters to me most as I know NB and I know he's not as easily pleased as I am.

The fact we were so much improved on the two previous dismal away showings is a massive positive, and if we'd gone down at Bournemouth having played the way we appear to have done tonight, I'd fancy the majority of reactions would've been pretty favourable. We didn't though and notwithstanding the improved performance, we've now lost three on the spin, with two of them including two particularly poor showings.

If we can carry tonight's improved showing into Friday and Monday's games then hopefully we'll come away with two favourable results and our stuttering season may be seen as getting back on track. However, IMO having rightly been given the chance to arrest the slide earlier in the season, I don't think another lengthy poor run would and should be accepted and the next two games are crucial in my view both for AS and our season.

Myles was a different player from Saturday, thank heavens. He ran at the full-backs tonight, his delivery was good and he threw himself into challenges. He spent a lot of time from about 30 minutes in on the right wing and that worked pretty well.

We just haven't got that x-factor at present. Mackail-Smith is a class player irrespective of his falling about and someone like him would really push us on.

Lewis was considered by us to be a dodgy keeper before the game but he made enough saves to potentially change the result.

just back we played little football in the first half the only chance from open play in the first half a cross from mw headed by mac saved by lewis we did work hard but no end product
second half much the same chasing the game but only likely to score from a set piece
then 70th min we decide to get the ball down on the floor and play and we looked like a diferent side much much better got a goal could have got more
if we want entertainment and a winning team its not the first 70 min but the last 20min we need more of
i feel this is another game we could of won but the team looked one dimensional for the large part

Just got back from the match and thought as I was one of the fortunate ones to be there should give my views. I don’t normally post so i will give a bit of info before I am accused of things.
Firstly I am not anti Scott nor am I pro Scott. I don’t agree with many of his signings nor his way of playing but he is the manager until he leaves.
I have supported Brentford for years and been to many home and away games. I have also been to most away games this season ie Exeter, Colchester, Bournemouth, Plymouth so feel I can give a good account of tonights match compared to others.
Team changes didn’t surprise me Spillane for Wright, Pim for Legge and swapping Bean for Laird on the wing.
First real talking point is the penalty 5 minutes in. Very soft in my opinion but Posh are known for falling down easy and I think it was Pim that touched Boyd who fell about like he had been shot. Penalty was dinked over Lee and we are a goal down.
7 minutes in and Weston for the first time in many games takes a player on but only wins a throw. Weston didn’t get involved for the rest of the half.
Mackail-Smith was running Pim and Osborne ragged. He was getting inbetween them both and causing all sorts of problems. Making them both loose their cool over each other and having a couple of heated verbal exchanges.
Posh were very soft at falling over but we didn’t learn not to dive in much to my annoyance.
The passing was poor from us while Posh were passing very well but mainly trying to be too clever at times.
Bean had a great chance to score a cross in from the left , a free header in the centre of the goal and he hits the keeper. Keeper didn’t even have to move. Poor poor header and should have easily scored.
I am not a great fan of Osborne, however well he has played this year he is prone to doze off and make stupid mistakes and he made an awful mistake letting Mackail-Smith get in for a one on one. Osborne did make amends and produce a great tackle but he shouldn’t be making them at this time in his career.
Lee pulled off a couple of saves. Spillane was exposed with Laird not being a winger and being dragged into midfield like Bean has been against Bournemouth and Yeovil.
Overall first half better than last few away games but generally rubbish to be honest.
Second half – didn’t come out blazing as i hoped we would but did get more of the ball. Lee pulled off a couple of saves and we slowly gained more confidence.
Passing became better. Weston began taking on players. Laird was on corner duty and to be fair most were half decent. Alexander and MacDonald were running looking for the ball in the first half were now getting some to feet which seemed to please them.’
MacDonald gets into the box and there is a blatant push by Bennett of Posh, ref waves play on. Ref was a definite homer for most of the game.
Our equaliser came from some very good pressure. Ball in the box Bean with a very poor shoot which went through two defenders the keeper parries to his left, Spillane unmarked should have buried in the net but side foot shoots which keepers saves, ball goes out to Weston who taking on the defender curls a shot that hits the post but fails for Laird to smash in!!! GOAL!! We did deserve this.
Posh went to licking their wounds but we still pressured. Weston crossed for Mcdonald who just wasn’t quick enough to get to the ball.
Alexander made way for Forster who looked like he is getting match fit and put himself about.
Osborne was booked for what looked from me to be a very poorly time tackle which could have been worse.
Then with the moment that really angered me. Bean lunges into a tackle and fouls when there was no need to put pressure on our box. The crowd and the players all seem to step up a gear. Free kick was cleared for a throw in. Long throw in flicked on to an unmarked Mackail-Smith who overheads for Spillane to block the ball is crossed back in shot Lee saves but the next cross comes over and it is in the back of the net. VERY very poor goal to let in and against the play.
Performance overall was better but not inspiring as mistakes are causing us to loose.
My player report-
Lee – good game made some good saves, couple of goal kicks not good but no fault for goals.
Spillane – Good game and solid. Open to attack by wingers as had no cover from Laird.
Pim – Needs match fitness but great in confidence during the game.
Osborne – A better game and is improving but needs to stop dozing off and focusing for 90 minutes.
Woodman – Another good game. Was beaten a few times but generally tackled well.
Kev – Poor poor game again. Forgot he was there and can’t say that he did anything good or for that matter bad.
Bean – Should have scored, got to learn not to dive in lucky not to get booked, passing still like a crab ie going sideways.
Laird – he is no winger, dragged inside far too often, apart from a couple of decent corners and of course the goal nothing else to report. Oh got booked for a foul.
Alexander – Spent most of first half defending in our own half. Didnt get any service and had to go and look for it. At one point was tackling in our corner flag when Laird was halfway up the pitch.
MacDonald – Ran and ran about, like Alexander had to go looking for the ball. He needs service. Should have had the penalty.

Forester – Ran around looking for passes and to take players on. Maybe 37 but think he should start a couple of games upfront now.

Should take alot of positives from the game which I can't say I have from the last few!!

Hope that hasn’t bored you too much but hope it gives you some idea of the game.

Oops missed Weston - Improved considerably but drifts in and out of the game too much tonight for my liking. Better crosses tonight tho. And finally ran at people.

Were did I tell people to ignore reports, the texts I got were telling me we played poorly until the last third of the game. So I guess that people at the game are wrong?

Icsuspect that he is totally correct in that we seemed to have been headless chickens in the last couple of minutes.

Charlie should have scored in the 90th minute, he should have taken the ball, player and all around him into the net, good defending or bad attacking could be argued. The stadium announcer obviously held off until the ball flashed past the far post and whilst the ball was in no mans land he told us it was a minimum of 4 minutes. I thought we had 4 minutes to win this bloody game but alas we never got out of our half and Posh swarmed all over us, a great block from Spillane, 2 saves from Lee (one for the camera and one for the team) and then two rushed tackles that led to ball into the box. You know the rest.:(

Penalty early on was a definatley a kick in the teeth but I always felt in the first half we were worthy of a point!
Their diving / cheating conned the Referee, they had a couple of freekicks outside the box which were close but apart from that they didint look scoring.
We stayed in the game and had our own attacking spells with a few corners.
Myles had an alright first half, switching him on the right was a good move as it mixed things up a little.

Second half was tight and we became stronger and for the last 20minutes there was only one team in it who looked like the win and that was us.
Suddenly the team started playing with confidence and we started to move the ball around very nice.
Quick passing, moving around making space, running at the defence.
Why oh why did we only do that for 15minutes I dont know??
Play like that for the 90minutes and we will be further up the table!

It definatley looks like a confidence matter, because Myles was back to him old self running at the defence, weaving in and out, crossing and it was from his shot that curled to the hit the Sunday Roast that led to the goal!

Great skill by gypo Mackail-Smith to attempt a bicycle kick in the last minute which led to heir winning goal!

Laird looks a good player, but I dont want to see him playing right midfield.
Forster coming on for Alexander was a strange one, would have left Gary on as he was providing abit of nucense upfront but Nicky did very well.

Their midfield and attack is awesome, Mackail-Smith(cheat), Boyd(cheat), Freckinlinton, McCann(cheat), Tomlin(cheat) but their defence is sh*te!
Also their tactic to con the ref worked everytime, ****ing joke, why do we get these referee's every week??

Poor turnout from Brentford, could have only been 150 of us but still tried to make as much noise as possible.

A good defeat if that makes sense, If we were to lose it would be how we did last night and not at Yeovil.

Good honest reports in here. Well done all. Couple of observations

Piss poor support when we could have gone 6th
Weston was back to his best last night especially when he switched to the right.
Came away gutted but in the cold light of day we could get the season right back on track if we continue playing like we did in the second half.
Good noise from the Bees fans
Some really good football in the secong half , different team from Yeovil.
Spillane was very good i thought.

G'ing on the boys last night behind the goal in the second half was top, ha felt more special being only one of a handful there :)

Thanks to the faithful attendees for the reports; Peterborough is a place too far for us on a Tuesday evening, so much appreciated. I was dreading logging in this morning, so it is good to read that the period of decent play is getting greater that recent times. I was anticipating a "Scott out" ****-fest... it sounds a bit "onwards and upwards"!

Abysmal numbers but good noise. Got a sore throat to prove it !

looks like i am the first one back.

poor for 70 minutes, good for the last 20 minutes.

worst away turn out i think i have ever seen. only 200 odd 45 minutes up the road at peterboro, embarrassing for such a big game. no wonder scott hates our "socalled "fans"".
great scenes for the goal up our end.

nice to see my flag have a night out.

spillane and o'connor played well. laird, bean and charlie done reasonable too.

massive weekend for the club now with the two exeter fixtures.

this is a hard defeat to take and really annoyed me last night, Ma on SSN news said we were all over them towards the end and then missed an open goal and should only be one winner then the same old same old we concede! getting pretty sick of hearing this year in year out! we need to finish teams off if were on top! grrrr
