Yesterday was the day I said my final farewell to my Dad ,Big Bill as he was known. The service was conducted with family and friends hearing about my Dads life beginning when he was born 1923 in the cottages next to The Plough pub in Northfields which was owned by the Benn family and as many know was where Brentford first began in Benn's field behind the pub where the teams used to change before games.Dad took me to my first Brentford game in 1961 and I was hooked so much so I saw every home game the following season when we won the old div 4.My last night I spent with Dad was the Sunday night after we won 3 1 at Crewe and I talked him through the goals and typically he said "if we don't go up this year we never will"we had about an hour in the lounge of the fantastic nursing home where he was staying and as the piano was playing he sung a few lines along to the classic "see you in my dreams "then as he got tired we took him up to his room where he said he wanted to go to sleep forever and so he did 10 hours later.Sad but he had fought Luekemia for 3 years and his condition had deteriated over the last month and it was horrible watching my dad fade away he was in his 91 st year so had a good life.I'm going to miss him so much he was the best Dad in the world. Thanks for the kind messages I've had from you all.

Bill I know the pain mate, may he rest in peace alongside my dad who is in the Oak in the sky. Take comfort from the fact he knew it was his time in the same way My dad did, because he went to meet his maker on His terms and with loved ones close at hand. Just gone 6 months since My dad passed away and I still Miss Him, always will. Dont be afraid to talk to Him in quiet moments My dad is still there in My heart and I talk to him often.
My condolences to you and your family

Sorry to hear of your sad loss. Like many others I can relate only to well to what you must be feeling right now. It must provide some consolation to know your Dad was "ready" . Try to remember the good times as they will help you when you are missing him most.God bless Big Bill .

I've been talking to Bill for a fair while and his Dad has been mentioned many times, all I can say and I do mean this is the dignity that his Dad showed through Bill's words and the calmness and fondness that Bill jnr gave off to me when describing the situation was amazing, I got the impression that they are and were very close and that they are two very brave men.

My condolences to you and your family Bill. As has been said those of us who have lost our parents have a good understanding of how you feel. That was a really nice tribute. May he rest in peace.
