I think the play offs are beyond us, but thought as we're on the run-in (14 games), to see how many points I thought we might get. We're not the most predictable of teams, but here's my effort:

Brum (H) Win (3)
Leeds (A) Win (3)
Cardiff (H) Loss (0)
Burton (A) Win (3)
Millwall (A) Draw (1)
Middlesboro (H) Win (3)
Sheff U (H) Draw (1)
Bristol C (A) Win (3)
Ipswich (H) Win (3)
Forest (A) Win (3)
Fulham (A) Loss (0)
QPR (H) Win (3)
Barnsley (A) Win (3)
Hull (H) Win (3)

There's probably a bit of wishful thinking there, but we have a lovely last 3 games if we are still in with a shout. I reckon 10 wins would give us an outside chance. Coincidentally, that's 10 wins, and 79 points. Relying on both Brizzle and Sheffield blowing up.

Now you can get on with it and tell me what a waste of time this thread is...

If we achieve those results we would walk into the play offs

My guess would be 20 more points

You'll probably be closer than me. I've based by predictions on us playing to our potential pretty much every game. Not something we've generally done in a run of games apart from the purple patch in Dec/Jan. However, if we COULD hit that form, those results are possible (but not probable).

Blimey. looking at those fixtures only ones that really worry me are (hate to say it) Fulham away, Bristol and maybe Leeds. Cardiff and Ipswich at home will be tricky just because of their style of play but we've not a lot to afraid of in that run of games...

I did this 5 games ago and had 4 of the last 5 games correct...the Norwich result letting us down so 3 points adrift currently.

Apart from that my forecast for the rest is very similar with only differences being a Loss to Leeds, a draw with Cardiff and a loss to Bristol. We're 3 off my curve so if we can pick up an extra 2 or 3 then all the better as my 74 is marginal for POs.

For the record my forecast is.

Birmingham W
Leeds L
Cardiff D
Burton W
Millwall D
Mids W
Sheffield U D
Bristol City L
Ipswich W
Forest W
Fulham L
QPR W
Barnsley W
Hull W

The big picture is far too daunting. I think I heard someone say once (not sure who it was, but I thought it very profound at the time), "we'll take one game at a time".

Can't see us beating Boro as sugggested and Leeds away won't be a picnic - I have given up on play offs as sonofsbee says not cynical enough - one win against a hopeless sunderland doesn't change my mind on that score - shame - top six and I clean up at the bookies lol

We’re regrouping under the radar.... put that run of results together & we’all be well in the mix! Momentum’s a wonderful thing in the Spring!

I always look at total defeats as a true measure ( ie not losing ) this time of year. 9 losses puts us up to about 8th in my table, & ideally placed for a Spring offensive....

(Puts tablet down & rose-tinted glasses back on the shelf.)

The five point gap is nothing with 14 games left. It all depends on whether we are good enough. One thing we have in our locker is a very strong squad which we have never had before. If Smith capitalises on it we can enter the squeaky bum period with fresh legs and every chance. There is absolutely no pressure on us unlike the big club wannabies. In our remaining games only 5 are against teams above us and three of those are home games.

I think the top 5 are settled and we won’t catch them, 6th spot is up for grabs.

Agreed, but it would obviously make it more difficult.

Yup but if you aspire to promotion you have to win games. I know that's bloody obvious but it's often the case that a side breaks into the top 6 in the last knockings.

...or wins its last 6 games and ends up as Champions like we did in 91/92!

Indeed. My take on this year is that only Wolves have been consistent. The rest can beat or lose to any team.So consistency is a bit scarce so every chance is there.

Agreed, but if Brizzle beat Leeds today, it'll be back to an 8-point gap.

Leeds 2 down inside 15 mins. They look pretty poor at the mo. If we’re on our game we can def pick up points there

Bristol City's next two games are Fulham home cardiff away. Have to think they will drop points so there's a big opportunity for us this week to try and close that gap.

Looking at that list of fixtures fills me with optimism, which sadly for the most part isn't a good thing, if the boys are hungry enough and we get a slice of luck or two it's very much possible.

Brum (H) Win (3)
Leeds (A) Draw (1)
Cardiff (H) Draw (1)
Burton (A) Win (3)
Millwall (A) Draw (1)
Middlesboro (H) Lose (0)
Sheff U (H) Win (3)
Bristol C (A) Win (3)
Ipswich (H) Win (3)
Forest (A) Win (3)
Fulham (A) Draw (1)
QPR (H) Win (3)
Barnsley (A) Win (3)
Hull (H) Draw (1)

29 more points if my maths is correct giving us a grand total of 76...you bees

How many points are our rivals going to get and what games do they have left ? Can we add that variable to this conundrum please ?

we are 6 points off , so lets give it a good go. Lots of points to play for.

Ps for those saying we will lose at F**ham , when was the last time that happened ??

I definitely think we are capable of winning 9 or 10 of our remaining games, including bristol City.

Definitely capable. I think we'll probably fall five or six points short but I think we'll manage to stay within the hunt for a few weeks more than we did last season.

Unfortunately, I think you might be right. Although, our players are looking alot sharper now that we are coming to the business end of the season. If we stay injury free, we have cover in just about every postion with the strongest squad for many years but I'm relaxed about the whole thing (no pressure). I think a strong end of season run in could set up nicely for the following season, although we have to go through the transfer window again and have a better pre-season.

Why not. Trying to account for some degree of unpredictability the Championship will always offer, I'll go:

Brum (H) Win
Leeds (A) Draw
Cardiff (H) Loss
Burton (A) Win
Millwall (A) Win
Middlesboro (H) Draw
Sheff U (H) Draw
Bristol C (A) Win
Ipswich (H) Draw
Forest (A) Draw
Fulham (A) Loss
QPR (H) Win
Barnsley (A) Win
Hull (H) Draw

We'll continue to be tough to beat, but ultimately our tendency to draw a few too many will stop us from pushing into the top 6. I know I know, I'm not a fan of predicting a loss against Fulham either, but they're looking like one of the best teams in the division at the moment and if we're being honest they're probably overdue a win against us at Craven Cottage now! With us mathematically out of the play-off race and Hull mathematically safe, I reckon the final game of the season will be a bit of a damp squib like it was last year.

Reckon we'll finish in 8th for our second best season in this division since we got promoted, which is nothing to turn our noses up at! Although here's hoping I'm wrong and a few more of those draws and losses turn into wins instead :sorted:

Pretty interesting reading this thread.
My own thoughts, for what they’re worth (and picking up some of the points made by others)
• Wolves are the best team in the division (and the only one so far that I have thought were anything really much better than ourselves). For me (and probably most others) they will be Champions.
• Villa or Fulham will grab the second automatic promotion spot (both teams we have comfortably beaten this season by the way!!)
• Cardiff (and Villa or Fulham) will be in the play-offs. The other two play-off spots are up for grabs – 6th probably being the only one realistically within our reach.
• Over 32 games so far this season, we have averaged 1.47 points per game – and that includes our dreadful start (results, not performance wise) to the season. Simply maintaining that would just about get us up to Rebus’ forecast points range – but I’d expect we’ll average better than that.
• Yes, we have not been very clinical but we have been scoring plenty of goals and we also seem to have tightened up at the back and seem to have found an ability to see out games. I reckon there’ll be a few games before the end of the season where we are more clinical and a few teams will take a hammering!
• I certainly haven’t ruled out the play-offs – not by a long way. I reckon it’ll be tight, go right to the wire and we’ll nab 6th spot.
• One thing for sure, whether we make the play-offs or not, the football played by this Bees team is fantastic and it’ll be a pleasure watching them trying to get there. These are happy days to be a Bee!

Just wish we could have held out v the Raras away and Brizzle at home. Those 4 points would really have put us in with a chance.

I agree but I also think that bristol City are saying something similar with Sunderland and Leeds. Definatley 6th spot is being chased by about 4 teams.
