Article here says forest want 14m for him
Seems very steep. It would make him our most expensive player ever while not necessarily being ready to play in the PL. It’s more than Toney after he triggers every add on. If BFC agrees the valuation then he must be some player as their judgement tends to be sound. But at the moment it sounds more like paying £23.5m for Rhian Brewster who had a much better footballing education at Liverpool as well a much better return in his 20 games on loan in the Championship than Johnson has had in his 25 games this season.

From memory I think Muff paid 10 or 12 million for Brooks a few years ago (from the championship) and I'm not sure he was much more experienced.

He was less experienced. Not sure he was brilliant value for money though his first season at muff was decent enough he’s hardly pulled up any trees since.

For that money I’d hope we can get someone who’d be on a clear and rapid path to Benrahma level in that sort of position.

If Phil's team rate him as highly as they seem to (given our sustained interested) I can see us paying that for him personally.

He is playing every week at a much higher level than some of the other targets we've been linked with (Champ is not far off the bottom half of the Prem, as we know). May be seen as much less of a risk than a player who isn't even getting into the first team in a league which is not of the same standard...

Is it sustained interest or just persistence by the media in linking him to us?

He has an illness, this could well explain loss of form.

I think we maybe interested in him and we may go to that price as I remember a interview that I think Phil did with besotted that he said about the striker grant that went to West Brom they should have just payed a little more as they felt that they could have got him

Sounds like there are other (bigger) clubs in the mix now (edit: if article is accurate!)... I hope we don't live to regret paying the asking price for him.

Wasn't Ajer more expensive than 14m?

Only with add one I think. Even if they’re both about the same, Ajer is a rather more established player.

Yeah would much rather Ajer for that sort of money than an unproven Forest winger

Lyall Thomas seems to think Forest want more than £20m for him, which is too much for us.

We may've put a take-it-or-leave-it, bid on the table in case Forest get into a panic as the window slams shut.

Makes sense to me - he is obviously a long term option, so can deal in the summer as well. I imagine if Forest want to do some business themselves they will need the cash.

But he possibly had the illness before diagnosis leading to his drop in form
My wife had this cancer 12 years ago and it needs to be caught early, so I very much doubt it.

Would we go for both Johnson and Mudryk? Seems unlikely..
I reckon we would if both were considered the right price... unless the club think they are competing for one position only. Jonhson has played the majority of his time on the right or i the centre this season per transfermarkt whereas Mudryk only plays on the left?

Forest are in constant threat of FPL, they nearly got caught this year after failing to sell either of their big 2 assets, Joe Worrall and Brennan Johnson. A take it or leave it deal is a smart move in my opinion, no risk attached to it. If we don't get him, he runs down his contract until we can get him for a few million in the summer or we get him now and can develop him into the next big thing

So do West Ham
My hunch is that Moyes is for the here and now and for him to keep the likes of Rice he really needs to add PL quality so a move for Lingard would make more sense imo.

Looks like we’ll do all of our internal business in terms of contracts and then work out our remaining budget for the window before splashing too much cash. Besides, it always takes a little bit for clubs to start trading during this window

I hope we do bring a couple in I know we have injuries coming back but we seem to keep picking them up as well…personally I think it’s a risk if we don’t bring someone in this league is relentless which I know they will know that…it’s just my view

almost needs one club to drop some money in one place, and then it starts a chain reaction...

Seems an odd way of doing it and wonder how much truth is in his tweet. Let’s wait until the month where we can actually buy players to sort out contracts that can be done any time of year. Obviously players contracts can take weeks to negotiate. If we don’t bring anyone new in this window, I can’t see the reason being because we were too busy negotiating our current players deals.

I’m sure they’ll be able to do it in parallel. Whatever we think it is rare for the club to buy loads in January so I think the work there will be relatively limited to players we’ve been trying to get for a while and/or who the club think will make an immediate difference or fill an obvious current gap (hence Lossl right at the start). Tidying the contract situation of the rest of the squad now makes the much busier summer window easier to manage as we can then focus on the larger number of targets who are always needed then.

I don't see why we need a RW, unless he can play RWB. We've got more pressing needs than him

We should spend millions on the basis that it will annoy the supporters of another club?
The Forest fans are already annoyed with us, it would just push them over the edge.
