Might ruffle some feathers by saying this but signing Johnson is more exciting to me than signing Eriksen. Not to say Eriksen isn't a massive statement, just feels much less likely than this one.

In all fairness, Johnson ticks the eye test pretty well so they can't question anything!
Looking back on that whole season, it was ridiculous that Forest fans hated us so much for questioning the underlying numbers on their team, when they ended up finishing 7th ultimately because they couldn't sustain those numbers. It really wasn't personal though...

If forest want £18m and we don’t want to pay that much move on and enquire again in the summer. Sounds as though both clubs are frustrated, if it was one of our players and we wanted say £20m and a club offered 12 then 14 then 16 we’d be saying pay 20 or go away

Given Villa have asked for £100M for McGinn and Man U are reported to be prepared to pay over half for him I’d say strong chance there will be a sell on as still profit on £15M if he’s as good as the other youngsters we’ve developed

Will be very happy if we get this deal over the line. Wouldn’t be overly surprised if we loan him back to Forest for the season though, especially if we bring in Eriksen as well.

Also kudos to him for playing. I know this should be expected but there would be a lot of players who would be pushing for the move knowing a Premier league team are in for him. He’s just getting on with it. We’ve all heard before a manger say an offer has come in and their head isn’t in the right place

I think The way the market is nowadays ,18 mil for an English wonder kid is probably cheap. I think we’ll cough the money up,I think he’s just the player we need right now ,and we’ll be able to be fit and ready straight away as opposed to Eriksen who could be 2/3 months away realistically

Given this only went up to strong rumour after the news we were 3 million short yesterday I’d be surprised if we weren’t going back in. Whether or not that’s the right decision is another discussion.

Because it’s clear in this case it won’t work. The closer we get to the end of the window the less time they have to replace him. If we think he’s worth it pay it, if not let’s go for someone else.

We’re known throughout the game as being more the reasonable negotiators and good to deal with when it comes to both buying and selling.
If they’re not budging then that’s down to them but if we have our pants pulled down it sets a precedent. I’d rather Phil & Co stuck to the strategy that served us so well and we get him, great, if not, we either move on or try again in the summer.

You may well be right, but I believe they are already looking at replacements. One guy from Blackpool who shall remain nameless and 1 or 2 others. Also as you will know we have several irons in the fire atm, so as I said don't panic. Don't understand why we should deviate from a tried and trusted process that has served us well over the last 10 years or so.

There has to be an upper limit at which we walk away. We don’t know what that is. I suspect that as the public reports have moved in the last few days from the bare figure to discussing the detail of the split between up unconditional transfer fee and add ons and sell on %s both clubs are probably quite close on the overall total and now are wrangling over structuring. That might end up with a higher stated fee but a payment schedule that puts the initial instalment lower (eg “you can have £18m total with a £6m initial payment and lower add ons or you can have £15m with £9m today and higher add ons”).
