A spineless, easily influenced ref
When I first saw his face he looked like he'd just remembered he left the gas hob on at home 😱 I thought he'd do well to deal with the constant bitching, diving and moaning from the City players, sadly he let them do it all game. Oh for a referee who puts these players in their place for once.

He was given MoM on Amazon Prime so to that extent, he was.
...... probably an incentive for not cancelling his contract....just to qualify.....with Amazon Prime....and not BFC.

Was worried that we’d be embarrassed on the pitch and depleted in the stands but both exceeded my rather pessimistic expectations.
Another great night to be savoured at the BCS. Very proud of my club and it’s fans.
As am i. Great performance from players down to the fans. Glad i follow a club like Brentford , rather than follow a club like them that get the championship bought for them by a load of oil rich Arabs. Always proud to be a bee but so proud tonight. We put out a well depleted team, yet it was good enough to give them a game.

I glory in the fact that you will never experience what Bees' fans experienced tonight, and have done for many of the last few years - complete and utter pride in a club that through sheer hard work, daring to be different and collective spirit manages to eek out the very maximum from the talent and resources available.
OK. I only saw Cup Final victories in 1956 and '69, league title in 1968 with an all-English team, and European Cup Winners Cup in 1970 in the pissing rain in Vienna.

You are and will always live in the shadow of your neighbours, all your money won’t buy you status or class. Law of averages states you will win a ECL one day but you’ll never have the admiration or win hearts and minds as like Chelsea and PSG and a few Chinese clubs you can buy success but not respect.

Who got the best deal for their 100 Million quid? City with Grealish - or us the complete team that earned us promotion to the EPL plus a complete brand new stadium that is the pride of London (on a smaller scale).
I wouldn't have swapped a row of seats for Grealish, based on what he did yesterday!

That was a worrying moment. The commentary confirmed that VAR looked at it. I think what helped is that it appeared that he changed his mind about stamping on him and that minimised the contact. Could easily have been given a red imho.
I can't see how it was any worse than what Fernandinho did himself a minute before - in fact Fernandinho's was worse (I'd say). Bit silly but funny that he got a chance for "payback" so quickly. Think it was sensibly handled, would've been a farcical red.

How Fernandinho and Cancelo didn't get booked for persistent fouling at least, I'll never know...

So we've now played the best 3 teams at home with an aggregate of 3-5. Not too many teams will better that I suspect!

And an interesting contrast in style and quality between those 3. For me, City were far superior in terms of game management and technical ability, but their obsession with possession can work against them as it makes it easier for teams to get behind the ball and be organised, which we did very well last night. It does, however, mean it's very difficult to get back into a game because they don't let you have the ball!

Man for man I thought we were great last night, as well as can have been expected given the opposition and the number of players missing. However, I'm afraid I don't really agree with the comments along the lines of "we need to play like that against the smaller teams". Against Villa we will have lots more of the ball and will need to take the initiative, especially at home. It's a totally different game to having 10 men behind the ball and keeping our shape for 90 minutes.

Hopefully that works lol its peps interview after the game. It's all you need to hear. To hear the respect he gives us. He know they were in a tough game last night.

The lads everyone of them were outstanding. Did their jobs. How many saves did Alvaro have to make? Great organised defensive work and unlucky not to knick a goal.

I still cannot beleive how good our midfield and defence were. The 2 wingbacks were exceptional. Onyeka took to his new role in midfield and showed is this maybe his best position with such a powerful motor until he ran out of gas and the equally effective Bidstrup replaced him. Pontus though gave such a captains performance - you could see him talking Fernandez and Roerslev through the game. Jensen had a really good game, but please relieve him of free-kick and corner duties.
It is that little bit of quality up front that has been our problem all season. Wissa and Toney were very effective on the press. But we had 3 chances, none executed. Man City had 3 half chances, 1 executed.

Fair play to Pep. When he first mentioned our approach to the game, I thought it was going to be a moan-fest. But far from it. Very complimentary...

Frank needs to be applauded that was an incredibly disciplined and organised performance Thompson and roselev played really well I think that showed playing left and right back they are fine just not as wing backs as they get caught out of position too much, vey proud of team and fans last night 👏🏻

What a night, what a performance, what an atmosphere, especially after they didn't score their second. Shame we couldn't nick something from the match but considering their form going into the game, thought we did outstandingly well. Ref couldn't have done much more to make it a comfortable night for City but we showed so much fight and commitment, it made me proud and cheered me up immensely.

immensely proud this morning to be a part of watching that game.

A second string side goes toe to toe with the English equivalent with the “ Harlem Globe Trotters” and lose by a solitary goal.

Every single one of them fought to the last.

The crowd was fantastic but like others disagree with the Mandy chants , They were classless and we are better than that.

Makes you think what the game would of been like with our full strength team…

Agree, but MC did not have the cutting edge of Liverpool unlike previous games. Credit goes to our coaching staff on that one.

Just woken up and re-reflecting on the game again. Firstly - the fans were top top class. The West Stand singing you are just ‘a sh*t Sergi Canos’ to Foden was funny. Secondly - to see the comments post the match from Pep. He knows it was a big three points for them and lastly to see some many greats in the city side but we kept them largely quiet for most of the game. A superb all round defensive performance with grit and fight. Proud waking up this morning.

Full strength I think we might have taken a point.
Christian, Onyeka and Janelt in midfield for a game like that would have been a bit like Arsenal. With Rico and Ajer bringing the ball quickly out of defence, it would have been very interesting.

Really proud of our team last night and the fans!! When you take everything into account - covid, injuries, suspensions, City budget, Bees budget, first season in the Premier etc etc- we are doing just great.

Tremendous night ….the players and crowd couldn’t have done more…a heroic defeat👍👏👏👏….but it is another defeat and we need to start scoring goals again…3 blanks on the run is not the sort of form which will keep us up…we need to keep Ivan up front as he is far too deep at the moment….hopefully a few players coming back soon could make the difference🤞

Because of our lack of success, apart from recent years of course, there has always been a tendency to revel in heroic failure. All the grit and determination we showed last night will count for nothing if we fail to get points against the lesser sides in the division. Against Villa on Sunday there may well be times when we have our backs to the wall and grind it out like we did at times last night but it is in the key moments when chances come our way that we need to prevail. Last night did not define our season but games against sides around us will. We all praise Guardiola's coaching but Thomas got it spot on last night and this must instil confidence for the second half of the season.

Fully agree, if we can beat Villa we will be back on track with 3 points from last 3 games. Not going to be straightforward though is it, it never is for us.

Have I been selected for tonight's argument? LOL
Nope, I just respond to silly comments, it’s fairly random, I don’t pick out one person.
Fair play, Thompson made a couple of decent challenges but I’m afraid he isn’t good enough. Jensen has been reasonable apart from one bloody awful free kick.
Is that really the best you saw last night, they both proved tonight the exact opposite of what you say.
I assume VAR looked at this and deemed it not a yellow,
proud of the performance and atmosphere.

i counted 5 fernandinho fouls, they expertly stopped our counters with fouls - ref did nothing to control that.
Nothing expert about it, blatant tactical fouls not punished isn’t expert, it’s weak, piss poor, star struck refereeing.

Close to a perfect performance on and off the pitch. Love this club. Just wish we had gone on the offensive a little sooner. The kitchen sink at 80 minutes.

That's a shame. I had felt special until you punctured my bubble. Apologies for silliness also.

Re above comments... bit of a waste of energy, IMO. You're not actually saying very much at all. Just being unnecessarily argumentative. At what point after a defeat do you feel you have sufficiently vented your spleen on the rest of us to be then able to settle back into a more serene state of mind? No offence. :)

Just imagine what we could have done if we had Raya, Rico, Ajer, Norgaard, Vitaly, and Bryan back in the team for the game yesterday?

Well done to Dom Thompson for putting in a really hard-working display. Mads Roerslev did a great job too. Two fringe players who really stepped up yesterday and hopefully they can build on it, although Mads is significantly more in tune with the rest of the team at this stage.
Frank Onyeka really flourished too. Really impressed with his workrate and discipline. Wissa worked hard throughout also, and put in some terrific challenges, which demonstrated to me that he's really buying into the team ethos.
And of course, Jensen. The occasions when we are playing big games, when he ups his workrate, he looks phenomenal. Really hope he can demonstrate more of that, as he has the vision and ability, but just that extra 10-20% when we're not in possession makes a huge difference to his game.

And finally.....that reaction from our fans when they scored the second. Ok, it went to VAR, but to know that no Brentford fan really gave a toss and just wanted to show their appreciation to the team, made me so proud.

Yes, we played very well, as I said. Teams that don't defend effectively against City generally get thumped!

I can confirm that the deafening ‘Hey Jude’ that followed their second goal started 0.0000564 seconds after it hit the back of our net.

Because, as you said, no Brentford fan gave a f*** after the unbelievable performance our scratch squad of kids and benchwarmers put in against the best team and richest football club on the planet.

Something the glory hunters and tourists who half-populate the Emptyhad will never, never understand.

Biggest league crowd since Easter 1972. The new permanent segregation fences put in recently have released around 50-60 extra seats for sale.
Great to see it officially tip over the 17,000 mark.

We are now averaging a higher gate than QPR I would guess (with a smaller away end)? Long may it continue.

I’m struggling to accept that any Bees fan can find fault with ANY of our teams performance last night. They all made a couple of mistakes, but then so did City’s players who incidentally cost around £540 million. Add in a star struck referee and us starting with 3 first team it was always going to be a battle. However, I walked out of that ground feeling that was an honourable loss. I’ve walked out more pissed off after a draw.

We will be lower mid at worst
