Few fringe first teamers in the team. Assuming it’s a strong reading side?

Tough game for the B team against what looked a strong Reading side. Certainly seemed older. Not an awful lot happened first half apart from a good Brissett goal where he used his strength to get into the box and smashed it home. Second half Reading got an equaliser slightly against the run of play and then looked stronger after making a few subs. We hung in there and eventually got the second through Brissett and a third courtesy of an OG after good closing down from Mogensen. Stand out players for me were Oksanen, Zamburek and the RB Roerslev. Yearwood looked short of fitness and struggled to impose himself, looked knackered after 60 mins or so. Mads Bech did ok, a couple of nice Barbet-esque balls to the wing but also a lot of laboured sideways passes. Gunnarsson impressed again in goal. Otherwise Mogensen worked extremely hard for little reward but his closing down of the keeper at the death enabled him to smash the ball across goal for their defender to turn in. A few players missing. Read, Onen, Hammar, and the B team limbo guys, Hardy, Coote and DaSilva.

One thing that slightly annoys me about these B team games at GP is that we seem to feel we need to play first team players to justify it. Whilst it was interesting seeing Thompson and Yearwood etc it does usually detract from the team performance. Would be nice to see the full B team play in one of these so they can really show what they can do..

But if you didn't play them how would you get the minutes in their legs

Surely it's as important to get first team squad players who need match minutes for fitness game time. Ultimately all that matters at the end of the season is where the first team has finished I would have thought?

You said yourself Yearwood was ‘blowing’.

How else is he meant to get some sort of match fitness without playing matches? Especially at a time when the squad will be challenged due to injuries etc.

I think we play first team squad outsiders to keep them fit while they're learning the Brentford way, nothing to do with the location.

I get that but we always seem to play more in the B team games at GP. Just an observation.. On another note, anyone got any idea what's happening with the likes of DaSilva, Hardy, Coote etc? Are they still training with the B team or with the first team?

thanks for the other report @Mr Cynical, much appreciated - I'd have loved to have watched the game but sadly didn't get chance (suppose i can watch replay sometime.......................... but maybe not).

however as others, not sure i quite get where you're coming from with your follow-up post :) would rather keep the first team fringe players ready to perform, plus it'll be better for the B-teamers to play alongside higher-quality players.

A very good question. When was the last time they played for the B team? Coote looked good at Wycombe preseason. I can only assume they've been told they are not needed and will be released and to find another club. Field too has hardly been seen.

ta.. Will try and explain! These games at GP are meant to be showcasing the B team and giving the young players a chance to play in front of a 'crowd' of sorts. Invariably though we seem to have more first team squad members in these games for whatever reason. That generally means that the team doesn't gel as well as it might and we maybe miss getting the full picture of what the B team can do and how they play. There were a number of regular B teamers not playing yesterday which seems a shame. Totally get that the fringe first team boys need match fitness but there's loads of B team games coming up and for once it would be nice if GP got to see what the full team can do with their regular line up.. Sure it'll be a more fluid performance on Sat at Hanwell for example.. Just my feeling though, others may disagree and prefer to see the fringe first teamers playing.. It was certainly interesting seeing the likes of Valencia and DaSilva when they appeared so can understand that to an extent..

Coote appeared in closed door game last week. Thought Cole Dasilva was rated has he been injured?
