An incredible result. Beating a Liverpool side that had won all 3 games to date and not conceded a goal. To be in the main Junior Final is a great statement about BFC's youth policies and what the future may hold. Congrats lads. Now win it.

We are to play defending Champions Everton after they thrashed Watford 4-0

Unfortunately it wasn't a successful evening for the #watfordfc U15 squad at the #milkcup. They lost 4-0 to Everton in SF.

Playing Everton, they beat Watford 4-0 and if I recall correctly they are defending champions.

Absolutely fantastic. Whatever happens they deserve their half-time applause they'll get at GP at the start of next season.

Very well done to all you lads, that was a tremendous shift you put in, regardless of the result in the final lets hope you all get introduced to the crowd at half time during the first home game of the season, I'm sure you will get the applause that you fully deserve, again, very well done and keep up the good work.

where to go? germany or NI?
To those not travelling (!) to Germany or NI and who have a SKY box, this may be of interest:
Tomorrow night 7pm -10pm "Milk Cup Finals - Live coverage of NI Milk Cup ......" on BBC2 NI which is channel 972 on the sky box ... haven't checked anything else so not sure if older age group final is on at the same time, but worth a check I think....

This Wiki site gives a flavour of the significance of this Tournament:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_Cup

I particularly liked this stat: "In the 2002 FIFA World Cup there were 30 Milk Cup veterans playing."

And the List of Star Players who've played in the Milk Cup as youngsters is none-too-shabby, either:

Giovani Dos Santos (Tottenham Hotspur)
Sergio Busquets (F.C. Barcelona)
Jeffren (F.C. Barcelona)
Damien Duff (Fulham FC)
Steve McManaman (Liverpool)
David Beckham (LA Galaxy)
Ryan Giggs (Manchester United)
Nicky Butt (Manchester United)
Gary Neville (Retired)
Wes Brown (Sunderland AFC)
Paul Scholes (Manchester United)
Keith Gillespie (Manchester United)
Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
Federico Macheda (Manchester United)
Jonathan Spector (Manchester United, United States)
Danny Pugh (Manchester United)
Michael Tonge (Manchester United)
Michael Carrick (Manchester United)
Mikael Forssell (HJK Helsinki)
Michael Turner (Charlton Athletic)
Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur)
Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich)
Thomas Hitzlsperger (Bayern Munich)
Peter Crouch (Stoke City)
Ledley King (Tottenham Hotspur)
Leon Osman (Everton)
Tony Hibbert (Everton)
Joey Barton (Queens Park Rangers FC)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
James Vaughan (Everton)
Victor Anichebe (Everton)
Stephen McManus (Everton)
Francis Jeffers (Everton)
Phil Jagielka (Everton)
Nick Chadwick (Everton)
Calum Elliot (Heart of Midlothian)
James Milner (Manchester City)
Jozy Altidore (USA)
Kieran Richardson (West Ham United)
Aaron Hughes (Northern Ireland)
Nicky Barmby (Tottenham Hotspur)
Kris Boyd (Kilmarnock)
Darron Gibson (Everton FC)
Stephen Craigan (County Down)
Jonny Evans (Manchester United)
Michael Chopra (Newcastle United)
Dean Ashton (Crewe Alexandra)
Craig Bellamy (Liverpool FC)
Joe Cole (Liverpool FC)
Kyle Lafferty (Northern Ireland)

Just checked and of course juniors kick off at 4pm ... however highlights will probably be on at some time on the program, worth recording on the sky box I should think .....

Well spotted, CDB.

All three Section Finals are being played at Ballymena Showgrounds tomorrow, as follows:

4.00 pm Junior - BFC vs Everton

6.10 pm Elite - Denmark vs Mexico

8.20 pm Premier - Desportivo Brazil vs Newcastle Utd.

According to the MC Website: "BBC Two NI coverage begins at 7pm with highlights of the Junior Final between Everton and Brentford, live second half of the Elite Final between Mexico and Denmark, as well as the live Premier final with Desportivo Brasil taking on Newcastle Utd."

P.S. The BBC1 NI Regional News Programme ("Newsline") is on SKY Channel 953 from 6.30 pm to 7 pm. Their Sports round-up is usually about 6.45 (maybe earlier due to Olympics?). They'll very possibly show brief highlights from the Everton v Bees game then, since the cameras will already be there for their BBC2 NI coverage later.

Hate to put a downer on all this, but could this result in some of our best youngsters getting poached?

It seems we are poaching some of Everton's better young players...

I'm currently on holiday in Moscow and the Brentford - CSKA Moscow result quite made my day (and my Russian wife wasn't well pleased). Well done, you lads.

I see that one of the other teams in the Milk Cup is called Cherry Orchard. Managed by Anton Chekhov, I hope.

But with a handful of exceptions, the UK is miles behind many other countries when it comes to Youth development.

This bit I come to agree with a coach I referee for...

Now not to sound too bad on local coaches etc but in successful foreign countries, instead of having many different youth local teams (for example in east berks league we have about 20 different teams from Bracknell ranging from fc Bracknell to Bracknell town etc), boys should play dependant on their tow
n/postcode etc.
so what if you have to have it stretch down to say Bracknell 6ths from a first team.. the best players will play with the best players and can only get better by playing with them with better coaches.
what is the point of a star player playing with 10 crap players with a mediocre coach? He won't learn much. chances are they will likely stay near the bottom of the league system for their age group so the best player won't be testing themselves against other better players.

if it can work in say Germany, why not here?

Well we can't just stop playing games so people can't see our players? If they beat us 10.0 it will also be unlikely they will poach anything other than an egg..

It is down to us I am afraid. I started up a maidenhead boys team in January, I have played over a thousand games at various levels ranging from semi pro down to sunday morning football in the last 30 years...... but, I have no coaching credentials or experience, i am winging it. We lost our first game 8.0 but have since gone on to win the next 20 games but I am under no illusions that a bit of organisation and making them pass at pain of death rather than being greedy will only take us so far. I am running out of ideas badly and the training sessions are becoming very hard work as I am desperate to keep it fresh but can see the boys getting bored as I try to teach them the offside rule or make them do passing exercises when all they want to do is whack a ball at the goal full pelt all night.
I am also trying to give all the boys equal time on the pitch but you are under so much pressure from parents and my co-coach to win every game you wind up putting the big boys on to smash their way through at the expense of the smaller skillful boys.

2 problems...... Win at all cost mentality at this age and the lack of coaching skills. On the continent these boys would have a euro licenses holder coach and would not be obsessed with winning every game by being bigger, stronger and fitter.

You missed a :fishing: off... :sorted:

The details have been posted above re kick off times of Final. :)

The people on Beesplayer have no control over pricing, or the club itself come to that, keep plugging away at PremTV, or what ever their new name is, you may get an answer one day. Don't hold your breath though.. :grey:

I've just realised these lads have had one hell of a schedule - they've played almost every day. Their fitness levels are going to be through the roof.
