"Brentford have signed France youth international attacker Bryan Mbeumo from Espérance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne. The teenager, who will turn 20 next week, joined The Bees from the French second tier side, better known as Troyes AC, for an undisclosed fee.

"He signed a five-year contract, having flown in from France on Saturday morning. He played his last game for Troyes against Clermont Foot 63 on Friday evening. Bryan played on the right side of the attack as they were beaten after taking a first half lead."

Welcome Bryan. While you're here, turn those Championship defenders inside out and score lots of goals!

Fantastic signing, who will be destined for great things (with us, I hope).

Wonderful news.
No doubt there will a flurry of 'Seems to be another winger, we need a striker' ' looked at his stats and he only scores goals in months with an O in them, did the DOfs spot this?' 'His reel shows he is very one-footed will get found out at this level ' 'little lightweight, hope he can cope in Championship' 'But we need cover for LB, RB ' blah blah endless blah
It's just great news

Seems like an excellent signing, we wouldn't splash that sort of money if he wasn't a big talent.

Small note of caution though:

“He is a young player and we may have to be patient but there is even more to come from him than we have seen so far at Troyes. He is a very exciting player and one I am looking forward to working with. It is great that we have been able to add Bryan to our squad.”

He played the game on Friday as a 10 in a 4-2-3-1 formation but they do chop around, so he plays right or central; last week he played right and scored. He's been tracked by many clubs, particularly L1 in France and Germany, so it's a real coup to get him.

Troyes are the French version of Birmingham City, a very defensive team. They only scored 50 goals last season, so at only 19 he scored 20% of all their goals in the league. The same ratio at Brentford would have netted him around 15 goals last season (if you assume the leagues are of a similar standard), not bad for winger.

And a big note of non-caution that looks good:
"Bryan is an incredible talent and someone we followed closely over the last season as he had his breakthrough at Troyes. We look forward fulfilling his big potential at Brentford over the next few years."

But again, talking of potential.

The 5 year contract is significant i'm sure

Showreel, care of Beesotted article from 19th July https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=89&v=TfY1QadyTRw

Probably also shared on here at the time.
This badly google translated bit of blurb from the other thread also adds context for anyone who hasn't been reading all summer.

https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Brentford-offre-6-5m-et-8364-pour-mbeumo-troyes/1041019

The interests around Bryan Mbeumo, the young (19 years old) attacker of Troyes (L2), not missing. English club Brentford, which is playing in the Championship, has made a firm offer of € 6.5m from ESTAC. Other foreign clubs, including Schalke 04, in Germany, are also following suit. But the player, under contract until 2022, would prefer to evolve during two seasons in L1 before making the big jump. Three French teams are particularly attentive to his profile, but must first sell before recruiting: Rennes, in case of departure from Ismaïla Sarr, Nice, for the eventual replacement of Allan Saint-Maximin, and the Olympique de Marseille.
Pleased we talked him round! Who'd have thought we'd mug off Leeds and Marseille this summer.

What fee are we talking about here? Can only see undiscovered. Could we have broken our record again?

Great news ....
so for at least the rest of the day we have in terms of wide players (including those who have played the role):
Bryan, Sergi, Said, Valencia, Ollie & Marcondes. Also a few other including Clark, Ogbene & Zamburek.

£5.3m initially according to rumours. It's a lot of money. Can't really believe we are spending these amounts of money on players. I'm off for a lie-down.

According to TransferMarkt, we have now paid out £26m (approx) and sold £17m.
We are £9m over this summer (which is a first in ANY season - though our first season in Championship may come close as we didn't have any players as such that could be sold on for sums other than Forshaw).

In theory, we are still well within FFP too.
And that is without selling Maupay (and any one else)!!

He even looks super-confident in his photo! Like it. Anyone know how to pronounce his name properly?

Doesn't it also depend which valuation of Bentley you go with?

Interesting that he’s on a 5 year deal. Means next summer after scoring 20 goals from the wing we can command £30-40 million because he’s 20 years old, has 4 years left on his contract and we’ll be a premier league club. Best ran club in the country.

Incredible. Our new record signing.

If you’re selling players circa £10m-£20m then, I suppose, one or two hefty fees are going to be paid. Jansson and Mbuemo the first two. Next? A striker?!? :)

Just listened to a bit of match commentary (watch his goal last week against Clermont!!!) and it seems to be how it's written... with a French accent! Mmbeoomo.

TransferMarkt, obviously guessing - based on reports, say its £5.85m. Second time record broken this Summer. In fact, our top 6 record transfers as listed on that site are for this season...

Mbeumo
Jansson
Jenson
Norgaard
Raya
Pinnock

6 of the top 12 are from this season. 2 (3 including Maupay) are still at the club too.

Of those top 12, the remaining 9 (10) players are:

Mbeumo
Jansson
Jenson
Norgaard
Raya
Pinnock
Canos
Jeanvier
Valencia
Maupay

Only Bjelland and Konsa are on that list and not at the club.
Only concern about the site is I thought Rico Henry cost us about £3m rising to £5m and he is listed as £1.6m.
