But his primary role is to provide assists...
Yes but i would say he is a "forward" so to be on 4 goals of which 2 came in one game? That is a poor return.

As previous, I'm not disputing his goal return is poor, just that you can't ignore his assists (and shots) when judging his contribution and comparing him with the alternatives.

Agree his assists are decent. But we need more.

After waiting for about an hour for someone else to comment I've now come to my senses and realised it's best to bit my lip.......a little....
He's obviously a decent enough player, but it just seems as though it's just not going to work for him. The slopey shoulders and stooped head with the little look over at TF when it's gone to sh*t is obvious. No doubt a lovely bloke...and still young, but he seems a square peg in a round hole.
I've noticed for a long time that it's not even his fault a lot of the time; teammates give him bad passes or don't give it to him when he's through or oppossision players just up their game and put in a great performance marking him.
He used drop his shoulder and buy time, before bursting down the line, but now it's usually a look inside for the easy pass, if he does manage to hold on to it.
He needs mental strength more than anything and I'm sure TF is doing everything he can with that, but how long do you give him?
Should TF keep trying at the risk of running out of time and failing?
Any other team would give him a rest.

His decision making in the last 3rd has become non existent.
Swinging first time balls in the box when no one there instead of just taking a touch.
First touch has deserted him and he has become very easy to play against despite getting acres of space last night.
In the 3rd minute he could not pick out Ivan Toney with a simple ball into the box, but found Gary Gardiner far too easy. For me it set the tone.
If he is the best for that position then I hate to see the rest.
And I hate being negative about players.

He’s still only 21 and averages a goal involvement (goal or assist) every other game.

He’s had Covid, been isolated from friends and family because of the pandemic and lost the 2 other parts of a formidable front 3.

His goals haven’t continued but his assists have increased. He’s shown some improvement in recent games and we certainly shouldn’t be hanging him out to dry.

Said and Ollie were both older that Bryan when they joined us and BM is nowhere near his peak yet. Every reason to think he’ll come good and we’ll see a massive return on our investment.

Agree with all of this except the very last sentence.

Bryan received the same racist abuse Toney did last night, from the same person as well. It's a sad sad world we live in.

Needs dropping. Last night was a fantasies opportunity to play into form. City were playing very narrow and he had plenty of room and space out wide. Chances he got he fluffed. He clearly needs a rest and a mental recharge. Fosu and Canos for me now till the end of the season. And hopefully next season we see the real MB.

Has he been moved to the left hand side? Could be a positive.

Good to hear he played well.

Blimey; if he can follow that up in the next couple of games it'd be like having an extra player. His confidence seems so brittle, so the next game will be crucial I reckon. Fingers crossed for him. He could yet get the winner at Wembley.

He’s a quality player who’s had a horrible time for a year. The massive smile after his goal told it all. Played a very mature defensive game today while being still ready to be in the right place up front. Whoever it was who laughed at my comparing Sarr to him last night can eat humble pie, Bryan’s going to be more of a player than him and the £5m we paid is an absolute steal.

He overly exceeded any expectations I had of him in this position today. Hopefully he can play himself into form at the vital time

Meh, another decent game (v Preston) followed by two naff performances. Really wish he would have the confidence and form to destroy sides for 3-5 games on thee trot.

A stinker tonight. Needs to be rested for a couple of matches so we can get him up and running again for PO's.

I hope we get the old Bryan back next season whatever league we're in. Canos looked decent on the left when he came on so give him a run there for a couple of games. Very sad watching Bryan at the moment.

A shadow of the player he was last season. Hopefully will be fired up to terrorise the championship next season

Agree with previous posts sadly. A couple of poor performances and should probably move to the subs bench now. Perhaps that will help to get his mojo back.

Honestly think he was overhyped by us last season too. Benefited massively from having Watkins and Benrahma with him but just probably isn’t as good as everyone thinks.

He’s had chances and missed them. Maybe he’s been unlucky with a few of them, but it makes a difference to the result. It’s a bit churlish to blame him overmuch though, because he’s done well with his assists, and he’s used his right foot a bit more down the line, so he’s still developing.I think we’ve been less quick on the break this season, so he’s getting the ball a bit later. I’ve noticed a few times that he’s made his run but the delivery to him is delayed so he’s picked up and marked by the time he gets it. I think it’s the injuries we’ve had, especially in key positions that have cost us the most.

Would put Canos, Goddos and Marcondes ahead of him, which says something. He could possibly do Okay as a support behind the front man (men), but wouldn't risk it. I said a year ago I'd take what we paid for him. He might do well elsewhere, but it ain't happening with us.

It's not always his fault, but he doesn't seem to gel anymore. Really strange. Canos comes on and suddenly things happen. The same usually if Fosu comes on from the bench. maybe try him in goal...god knows.

He wasn’t effective at all tonight in the LWB role. Big decision required if he is to continue in this role, be moved further forward , (for Forss maybe) or used as a substitute. He I currently a passenger along with a couple of others unfortunately.

I thought he defended fine, which was my biggest worry about him being played as LWB. But as with much of the season he did less up forward than we’d want. Maybe he could have shouted louder at Forss to let him have a shot at an open goal but I think Forss ought to have been able to score from there. Unless we’re going to rejig the formation again I think we need to let him adapt to it. Some have said put Canos there but many fans have been happy to slag Sergi for poor performances and bad decisions so does it really solve anything to do that unless you can be sure he’ll do the job? More realistically we just end up deciding both are bad. Ditto, after clamouring for Forss to start and play centrally, fans 3 games in are moaning. They’re young lads not robots with fifa stats.

He's not a wing back. He's produced his best performances for us on the other flank. Think we looked a lot more dangerous when Sergi came on, however he could have been the hero if Forss hadn't taken that chance off of him..

Did fine, but not great. He’s not a wing back, but probably our only left-sided option for that role. Did the basics defending well enough, and still got forward to stretch them at times.

Must remember he’s a young player and has been asked to play 4 or 5 different positions this season. Always puts in a shift. Been generally lacking composure in front of goal but I wouldn’t be dropping him.

4 or 5 different positions?

Right Wing, left Wing back. What were the other 3?

He has played on the right and left this season, through the middle as a striker and now at wing back.
So basically he has been crap on the right and left wing, through the middle, up front and at left back ;)

He will be brilliant next season, had a below average year but as you say is only a baby.

I agree, I think a break, and coming on from the bench is best for him and the team. With automatic promotion gone, I think the time has come to experiment with Janelt at left back. Might not work, but I can’t help thinking he could be a Stuart Pearce. Certainly need to look at other options for that position. With Sergi on the other side.

Definitely needs some time out of the team. We need to explore other options rather than persisting with someone who is so clearly out of form and confidence. Last night's performance from him was horrendous. There is a quality player in there for sure but his body language and decision making on the pitch are all wrong.

Haha! Your posts do make me smile, I know how many people's blood will boil once they're confronted by the facts.

Having said that, it does make you wonder what a better player would have done having got into those positions, and the answer is.....= Said Benrahma.

I reckon Bryan's gonna be back to his best next season, he's so young still.

Feels like he’s easy to mark and weak on the ball, which means the getting in the box instances are becoming less and less.

Great that his stats look good, but if you don’t regularly get in there his value to the team is limited. A wing back role certainly won’t help him get in the box more often.

And those stats say he shouldn’t be on the pitch before Canos.

You could actually say he should be on the pitch with Canos?
