Some will consider this herecy but with the compacted season, more midweek league games meaning reduced receovery times I don't give a monkeys about this competition.

Play as weak a team as you like Thomas and if we get beaten we can sit there with our feet up potentially watching our rivals tire themselves out

FGR away would've been OK but as we wouldn't be able to go perhaps save it for another season.

Uninspiring especially with no fans allowed. To be fair there wasnt many ties that would have been exciting.

i think it's a nice fixure - fairly local derby and glad it's at home, more time for bees to familiarise with playing at new ground ahead of championship.

Hopefully we'll put out the first team for the last "warm-up" prior to the start of the league season. Wouldn't want to lose the first ever competitive match at Lionel Road.

I think some players might be away on international duty?

Yeah probably the strongest side we'll put out for a first round League cup game in years, considering it's a week before the main season starts, as opposed to crammed in between the first 2 fixtures.

Good excuse to essentially treat it as the last pre-season game.

The date of the tie can be moved;

Our opening competitive fixture of the new season will see us entertain Wycombe Wanderers in the First Round of the Carabao Cup.

The draw was made this morning live on Sky Sports News with Paul Merson pairing us against The Chairboys.

The ties are scheduled to take place over the weekend of 5/6 September although Clubs are able to mutually agree an alternative date prior to the international window which begins on 31 August.

The two sides have never met in the EFL Cup and we last hosted The Chairboys back in January 2012; Gary Alexander netting a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory.

Further match details will follow in the coming days.

Reading's first game at their new stadium in 1998 was a mundane league one game. I don't suppose it bothered them in the slightest once they made it to the PL. People have too much time on their hands.

Any speculation as to whether a reduced crowd will be allowed in for this? I now the PL are working up a strategy for getting "socially distanced" fans into the grounds for the new season

If no fans are there to see it it's utterly irrelevant anyway, IMO. As far as I'm concerned the last game at GP was Sheffield Wednesday and the first game at LR will be the one when we're at 100% capacity, whenever that may be.

Just play the B team and hand it over to WW, then get on with the important stuff

Best aspect of this draw?
Means it’s up on the Brentford mobile website home page and the last game score line has been removed.

I personally like this draw, at home to a team I have a soft spot for. A good chance of a pre-season fixture against a team now at our level.

A shame it's highly unlikely to be on TV, as would like to watch the first LR game, but I suspect it will mean more for the first game in the league anyway.

The Carabao will probably be even lower on everyone's priority list this season given the truncated programme, but as a one off game I will be up for it. I'd expect heavy B-Team presence for any further ties though.

Our League Cup record is awful. In my time the only real highlights have been two defeats of top tier sides, Swansea and Everton, the Alan Mansley game against Hull over 50 years ago, some bits of the three ties against Tottenham and that's it. Every season I think "Could this be our year for a cup run?" but the answer is always the same. A few supporters I know have not bothered with cup games in recent years but I always turn up. Not going to be able to do that this season. Still, hope springs eternal.

Let’s put out first team, beat them and go on to win the cup. We can dream.

I can see them going quite B team heavy as they have been in pre season a couple of weeks longer. Would also expect some fringe 1st team but we might not know who they are.

Be nice to have a go at winning this game, not just because it’ll be the first at LR but because it’s the first game of the season.

Sod that. I'd rather we gave them a walloping of Lutonesque proportions.
