AC was funny but in terms insight, there wasn’t any- it was a complete circus and pretty awful. I think Charlie Mac however does a very decent job. Let’s not forget, he’s not a professional commentator.

That’s my point. There’s always too much ‘in my day’. Don Goodman‘s the same. The iFollow commentary when we played Boro away was a real eye-opener. It doesn’t have to be this crap!

I think the idea has always been Bees fans commentating for Bees fans with added ‘analysis’ by former Bees favourites. It’s about you sharing the match day events with like minded people rather than having the most professional commentary and analysis. For me and many others over the years this has been the most enjoyable way to ‘connect’ with games you can’t get to. I’d rather that approach than going full on to have the most professional package and lose the emotionally vested characters. Others may disagree, fair enough, but I don’t see it as something to be upset or entitled about. That said, CM is head and shoulders above other guest analysts, Marcus is ok, Big Tel and AC were quite poor IMHO.

I can’t comment as I can’t listen to the dross that our so called commentators come out with. Watched on silent and loved it.

We’re spoilt for co commentators...Marcus Gayle is excellent, as is Charlie McDonald, oooh aaah Simon Ratcliffe and Benny B also welcomed guests.

Not sure anyone is getting upset or indeed being entitled. Simply saying that ex-players’ analysis does not always add much. But - whatever floats your boat

Just wondering if you caught the game when Alan Cockram was on co-comms?
He’s before my time as a fan but his “insight” sounded like that of a retired pub footballer with no insight whatsoever into the modern professional game.

Charlie is the best, much better than the others I’ve heard, male and female.

Yep, personally I like hearing ex-Bees on co-comms, even if they’re not particularly polished but offer some form of insight it makes a good mix. There is a limit however. And I realised that limit existed when Alan Cockram and Big Tel took the reigns. It didn’t feel like watching a league game, there was waaay too much reminiscing and jokes to take the match serious. Charlie Mac is miles ahead of that. He also seems to genuinely care that we win. If we’re saying he’s no good then I think we’re in to needing ‘professional’ commentators.

Put the kettle on Marcus.

I have to say Charlie’s commentary and input on i follow is excellent; leagues ahead of anything I hear on Sky sports. For example, his explanation yesterday on Marcus Forss‘s body position, (leaning back, looking up at the goal rather than the ball, snatching at it) when he put it over the bar, is so much more informative than the usual ’he should be hitting the target from there’ that you get on Sky. He clearly has a great understanding of the game, is able to articulate that - it would be great if there was an ongoing role for him at BFC.

Completely agree! He mentioned coaching yesterday. Does anybody know who he is involved with in a a coaching capacity?

He coaches at various youth set ups around South East London including Ballers Academy in Rotherhithe who use Fisher’ ground.
Wow, sounds like they are lucky to have him!

I might add that when at Brentford, when he was not selected through injury, he was sat in the stands watching, sometimes with his family, not because he had to be there, (he wasn’t with Andy Scott and the management team), but presumably because he wanted to be there. I just remember at the time the contrast of seeing him there, with hearing that Glenn Poole had stormed off in a huff out the ground when he wasn’t selected - although doubtless there was more to it all than I was aware of.

Didn't Glenn Poole do co-commentary for a game this season?

Not that I can remember. He (Pooley) used to live next door to Mrs hb's sister in Elm Park. He had a very short journey home when we played Dagenham & Redbridge!

Always liked Charlie. Scored a bundle to help us get us promoted. scored a few stunners too, Bristol Rovers when we lost 3-1 I think
