Is the new contract to pay him what he is obviously worth, or to ward off
interest from predators?

Did everyone see all the unseen work he got through against England tonight?. Subtle beast of a performance! Alright, not always subtle!

Translation of this article: https://sport.tv2.dk/fodbold/2020-0...fter-imponerende-debut-det-har-jeg-ventet-paa

The Danish national coach Kasper Hjulmand was very enthusiastic about Christian Nørgaard's debut. Christian Nørgaard made a distinguished debut on the Danish national team against England.

The midfielder started in the team, got 73 minutes of playing time and was named the best Dane of the match after the match. The former Brøndby player also had a hard time peeling off the smile after the debut.

- I am incredibly proud, it sounded from Christian Nørgaard at a press conference after the match.

Before his debut against England, Christian Nørgaard had seen 5 international matches from the bench. Therefore, it was great to finally get the debut in red and white, in the showdown that ended with a single point after 0-0.

- I've been waiting a long time for this moment. Doing it in Parken and against an opponent like England is something I will never forget. This group is unique, I think. It is very rare that one can come in as new and just accepted from day one.

Christian Nørgaard was one of Kasper Hjulmand's new names in the starting line-up for the match against England, where the Brentford player replaced Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. And the national coach also had a hard time hiding his enthusiasm for the fine debut from the new man.

- I am very impressed that in your first match - against England - you can go in like that and just play your game. It was impressive to see, Hjulmand said at the press conference after the match.

- I've been following him since he was a little boy. I've seen him take some big steps. Quietly, he has grown and has gained a toughness in the position that I really like.

Another solid display, despite the assault and obligatory yellow card for him too.

Head and shoulders above his midfield partners at the moment.

Didn't he? Incredible to see. His ability with and without the ball. Such quality in the squad, but I could watch this chap play all game every game.

Well if we didn’t all already know how critical this guy is, we just saw a demonstration!

Please please please be a minor injury!
The only bright spark would be if it means he’s spared going off for the international break and can recover and preserve his energy for us.

Last season we had a ready made reasonable replacement for when Norgaard was out - Kamo. Trouble us reasonable is not always enough.

What I was thinking.

We will hopefully hear that he has been withdrawn

quote already from TF that he won’t make the England game. That worries me though, must be serious to make that judgement already

Desperately bad news for Christian following his international breakthrough and MOM performance against England. Worse still news for us if the injury is even more long-term than this.

Let's wait and see. I'm not surprised TF is quoted as saying he won't make the Danish squad now, but that doesn't mean he won't be fit for us in two weeks time.

Looked like a simple twist to me. We have the international break coming up. If there was a best time for this to happen - this was it

I think he might have done his Achilles. Didn't look like an ankle twist or knock. Seriously hope not though.

Agreed. It doesn't usually take much for a club to withdraw a player from an international squad!

Just landed and jarred it, I don't think it even twistred. He did the same in pre season against Bournemouth last year didn't he and missed a few games.

Can’t help but think Ben Watson would’ve been the ideal stand-in for an injured an injured Nørgaard.

Can't help but feel Mads Bids was recruited for this but is injured and Janelt will need time to adjust

My first thought was that or a stress fracture. I was willing them to take him off as trying to run it off can only have caused more damage. He isn't the sort of player to roll around in agony for no reason and it clearly wasn't a knock.

Very unlikely. Spiral fracture fib a possibility but again very unlikely. Probably soft tissue hopefully not too serious.

That's what I saw too, just landed with both feet together, didn't appear any impact from the Preston player, just a jarred landing. Let's hope it's a bit of soft tissue damage, as opposed to a stress fracture or something, it's a worry that the most innocuous ones are often the worst....

Frayed knot. @BEEcool was all in favour. I think Watson could have done a one-off job yesterday on a zero hours contract basis. :fishing:
It was of course tongue in cheek mentioning Watson again here - the incredulity of some on that thread at the mere idea of us signing someone 30+ was quite amusing but what it did do, was highlight the absence of a genuine 'back-up' for Norgaard should he get an injury. We have a few that could fill-in or be asked to step up but I don't think it's a position where you want to be blooding someone. Of all the positions I think it's one that lends itself for a more experienced player (like a Watto) to slot in until CN is back.

So Norgaard misses international duty... Jensen takes his place for Denmark!

I am precisely not a doctor but I wonder if his ability to try to run it off means it's not as bad as all that. Then again Stuart Pearce once famously attempted to run off a broken leg so what do I know.

I thought he did the injury prior to going for the header. I thought you could see him limping just before before he went up for the header and then avoided landing on the foot

The worry about this is it will make Norgaard a target in the same way Judge was. Take him out and we surrender.. need to find a way of playing without him, whether that’s going to a back three or finding someone else to fill the role to a similar level.
