Does anyone know how long we offered CD? I thought there was a suggestion that we offered two years too

He will be a big success with Brum I'm sure (probably at our expense).

Oh well. I now don't like him and hope his career goes down the pan. Out on loan to Crewe by xmas and the fat geordie looking for a new job.

You were a great player for us, I fully understand why are you are taking the new job and I would do the same so thanks for the memories but you are now history so look forward to booing you in a few weeks time. I would expect to get booed myself if I did the same.

I think we got the best out of him. Last big deal for him so it was always going to be about the money. :nono:

Thanks for your help CD in getting us towards the promised land. :sorted:

Absolutely gutted, great 3 years service he has given us. Will be very weird not seeing him out there next season and more weird playing against us. End of an era.
Replaceable yes but wont see another player like him. Pleasure and joy to watch him the last 3 seasons, a big important piece of the jigsaw in getting us promoted.

So it's not as if BFC didn't know what they were getting when they signed him, then.

On a free.

Anyhow, the reasons for his signing or leaving a club are less important than what he contributes during his time actually at the club.

And without even knowing what wages he was on at BFC, I would confidently say he gave us as much value-for-money as any other player over the last three years.

Good Luck, Clayton, I hope you've screwed a bundle out of Brum.
Agree with this. Thanks Clayton for your time at the Bees, wish you luck except when playing us.

Reading the report on Get West London it stated that the bees refused to be drawn into a bidding war after Birmingham made their approach which I fully respect. This also hints that MW and MB might not have been totally convinced of CD at championship level.
I am sure we have better lined up to come in.
Roll on 23/8/14 where we shall witness TC and JT give him a good kicking around Griffin park!

If they weren't totally convinced, they wouldn't have made him a "very good offer" in the first place.

That or we have some kind of wage structure in place and to match what was being offered elsewhere was not an option we wished to countenance

If they were "that convinced" they would have got involved in a bidding war and made another improved offer to keep him....which according to the report they didn't.
I am only going by the accuracy of the report though!

:( Well done to the club for signing Tebar at around the same time so it isn't as bad. Love Clayton but cannot believe he signed for a downhill club like Brum. Ah well thanks for the goals & memories Clayton, especially Portsmouth home, Peterbrough home and that beauty away at Notts County. Gonna take me a few days... *sob*

To be honest I think he's past his best.

Generic Football comments made when one of your better players leave.

Gutted my only hopes are that he's not quite good enough for championship football. Also with him leaving we will have to adapt our style as he was an integral part of how we played. With us having to sign new strikers, this may work in our favour, as it may suit the Championship better. Whether either of these hopes are true. I don't know.

Can understand his move. He was a great servant and key to getting us promoted, will definitely be giving him a round of applause when he returns to Griffin Park. Also to perform how he did after his mum passed away was nothing but highly professional, he'll be missed.

Shame he's decided to go with a shower like Brum but no doubt they've offered a generous contract. glad to hear we haven't thrown money at the problem, personally I think the Championship is a step too high for CD but wish him all the best after a good 3 years with us :sorted:

and I need a new avatar

Good luck to him and his last big payday.

Perhaps now we can recruit players and play in the formation that MW really wants.

I must say that I'm disappointed he's gone to Brum. Have they offered him a longer contract than us? Are they in a higher division than us? Do they have better immediate or long term prospects than us? Answer to all questions is no. Only conclusion is that he's gone for the money.

Which you can't blame him for as last big pay day.

Guess not, we got him for free by paying him more money than Crewe now he's left for free because someone else is willing to pay him more.

So what's wrong with that?

Good luck and thanks for the goals.
:imwith:

A wonderful player to have had at GP for the past few years. Gave all he had in every game. If he was a prolific goalscorer, which he should've been considering the chances he created for himself and those created for him, then he wouldn't have been at GP at all.

One player the opposition didn't want to see on the team sheet, that's for certain, and one who will cause us problems when we play Birmingham.

Good luck CD, 22nd in the all time list of goalscorers for Brentford FC, in our 125 year history. Not too bad a record. :owusu:
