Don't see why this can't proceed as no one goes to watch it anyway.

So long as they can get 22 players and a couple of umpires on the field. Will also be needing a groundsman or two, and some scorers. And a tea lady. Person.

It ain't happening this year.
Taking the kids to the Oval in May for T20 match and I reckon it will not be played.
Sad to say.

Sadly I don't think they are going to be as unstoppable as you think.

Surrey fan in peace.
Yorkshire have always been my 16th favourite county.
Enjoy the season.

Yes but now is far too early to be disillusioned. Pre-season is always a time for hopeless optimism surely. lol

But you're still going? ;) Not a bad spot for a picnic I suppose.

Not quite the right forum, but thought this was worth repeating on here.

Might be watching a bit more of this over the next few weeks:

“The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team” on Amazon Prime.
Just seen first episode. Very good.

THE ECB BOARD HAS TODAY AGREED THAT NO PROFESSIONAL CRICKET WILL BE PLAYED IN ENGLAND AND WALES UNTIL AT LEAST MAY 28 DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

The Board approved the recommendation to delay the start of the season following discussions with the First Class Counties, the MCC and the PCA.

It was agreed that, given the current information available, a seven-week delay to the start of the season is the most appropriate approach.

The ECB has begun modelling a range of options to start the season in June, July or August –with an immediate focus on options for cricket in June, including the three-Test series against West Indies, the Vitality Blast and England Women’s schedule against India.

Close liaison with the Government will continue, with discussions on the potential of starting the season behind closed doors and giving sports fans the opportunity to live broadcast action.

The potential for reduced versions of competitions, should the season become further truncated, will also be discussed.

The Board will meet as needed to review the position and make further decisions as the UK situation unfolds.

ECB Chief Executive Officer, Tom Harrison, said: “During this period of deep uncertainty it is the ECB’s first priority to protect the wellbeing of everyone within the cricket family, from players, to fans and colleagues across the game.

“The decision to delay the start of the season has been essential, given the circumstances the nation faces. I am reassured by the collaborative effort from across the game that together, we will make the very best of whatever length of season we are able to safely schedule in the coming months.

“With the information available to us at the moment a delay to the start of the professional cricket season until May 28 was unavoidable. This also allows us time to keep pace with a fast-moving situation and continue to plan for how a revised season might look. Critically, we can also remain as flexible and adaptable as possible, within the obvious restrictions we face.

“Securing the future of the game will be a primary focus as we plot a revised schedule with an emphasis on the most financially important forms of the game for the counties across international and domestic cricket.’’

Surrey play Middlesex in the T20 on May 28th at the Oval.
Without checking fixtures, is this the first T20 match of the season?
Everything will be done to play this game as the Counties will not want to repay Sky their money back for the live broadcast.
I have tickets for this game.
In the family stand too.

The HUNDRED has NOT been moved yet.....

No one can get a refund for the West Indies Tests as they MAY be played later on in the summer

When they are either cancelled (or no fans allowed )

Is the first chance that they start to give your money back that alot of people paid in October and November last year

I always used to cheat. Bet most new ball bowlers did, to some degree. :fishing:

From The Times Diary

"The Hundred, a new form of cricket for people who don't like sport, has been postponed.
"This is good news for purists who were dreading a chunk of their season being given over to players dressed as crisp packets.
"And all it took was a global pandemic to stop it.
"Cricket's administrators should have listened to the World Health Organisation which has been advising that their priority should be "Test, Test, Test."

Brilliant! Had never heard of the N Yorks club. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Ship Inn at Elie. Electronic scoreboard on the pub wall these days! Beautiful setting, and not far from the home of golf for anyone wishing to plot a sporting break. This end of Fife is really pleasant.

I know this is a county cricket thread but have you been to Ventnor CC?

Wow. I reckon I'd fall flat on my face at delivery if I was that bowler. Plenty of running between the wickets as well!

IOW is a nice tour venue. Shanklin is a lovely club too. A few years ago I was on Shanklin beach opposite my hotel at 1am and the local Chinese delivered my order to me there.

Clubs are allowed to train again with restrictions.
However, July 1st remains earliest restart day.

really want to go there

It's a lovely little seaside village. And the coastline and villages from there, heading west, all the way round to St. Andrews merit a break of at least a few days. North, beyond St Andrews and Leuchars (former RAF base), there is a wonderful forest nature reserve with a massive, unspoilt, unpopulated sandy beach. Ideal hiking/dog walking territory. Further north is Dundee. Avoid - sh*t heap. But Broughty Ferry is OK.

I think I'll copy and paste this into the other thread!!
