It’s a personal DREAM for the 25-year-old goalkeeper who had completed his move from Brentford."

I always hoped he’d come good again but last season was gash at times, good for both parties, to make a profit on him after last season and if I’m being honest, some of the one before, is blinking good.

Not good enough for a team with top 6 ambition.
Great potential but nowhere as good as he thinks he is and lacking in the mental aspects of modern goalkeeping.

There's a bit of a John Egan feel on this one - maybe not the best idea to rubbish him too much, on his day he is very good.. Anyway, keen to see who we get in.

Probably a lot of truth in what rebus has posted. The new goalkeeping coach has set-out his stall. So we have to see what that will bring. Time will tell.

The trouble with goalkeepers is that if they drop a b***ock it’s nearly always a calamity, and he dropped more b***ocks last season than a five aside team of eunuchs.

Point of order - eunuchs don't have b***ocks so that would mean he made no mistakes. And yes, I shall **** off.

4m if true seems way over the odds based on last season. However if he performs at the level he is capable of then could be a bargain a la Egan. Presumably we are close to signing a new no 1 as I dont see Daniels being first choice.

Definitely, he is a good keeper but after the sh*t shows of last season this was always the best scenario for both parties. Staying here and risking more calamities and points lost would have been too big a risk.

In roman times that was because because they had had them removed. It wasn’t a great analogy but I’m five bottles of old mout down at the moment.

If Bentley recreates his 16/17 form then it's a class signing... If he continues to play at Brizzle like he did in the past few years.. Especially last season then they'll turn on him quick.

Still don't think John Egan is that good, personally. :D

Goalkeeping is probably the most obvious position where confidence plays a part. The goalkeeping coach is probably key in that...

A fresh start for both parties. Bristol clearly think he’s worth he gamble - he’s a young English keeper with championship experience. Nothing to say he will be number one there either of course.

If he gets his form back he could play Prem but he had become an accident waiting to happen for us

Then let’s hope we can sign a new keeper who works well with the goalkeeping coach

Good business all round. We needed a new face, he needed a new challenge, we got a decent fee.

I for one wish him well. A good pro for us and always had a lot of time for the fans.

I just had a message from a Bristol City friend gloating about this. I thanked him for £4m for taking our 2nd choice keeper!

Not surprising I suppose. Clearly had his worst season with us last year. But I still think he has a lot of potential.

DB's loss in form and erratic mistakes was IMO down to the new coach. Will be interesting to see who we bring in.

I agree to an extent but some of the errors were already there under Royce too

Im not so sure. The mistakes last season were simple saves where the ball went through him. As ive said previously the new coaches training of jumping around giant balls etc could be unsettling for a young keeper who was prob used to Simon R who did a fantastic job.

He dropped a fair few clangers the season before under Royce.
He has all the hallmarks of a top keeper but for some reason the last two seasons it’s kinda slipped away from him.

I hope he regains his form apart from against us as he always seemed a good bloke.

If we got £4 million, I believe we can replace with at least as good, and have some monies left over out of the deal. Excellent business in my view.

At the end of the day no surprise, at times he was very poor last season and cost us points. The Dofs obviously saw the need to improve also, which I fully support. Am very interested to see who comes in.

Pulled off the occasional stunning save but always an accident waiting to happen & never dominated his area enough.

Proves yet again that the Bees never get on the wrong end of a transfer any more.

If that's anywhere near £4m, that is fantastic business. Will get someone far better for half the price.

I wonder if the DOF wanted him to stay though? Did DB want to stay and continue to work with the GK coach? Could be the club knowing he wouldnt want to stay and selling when the time is right.

Really? Bentley cost us 1 million 3 years ago. So i doubt 2 million buys you much better.

In the respect that he can’t be responsible for the basic errors Bentley made last season. mistakes he made while Royce was at Brentford, albeit less frequently.

He cant be responsible........... But he can contribute towards those errors.

He cost us £1.1m 3 years ago.

£1,100,000 in 2016 equals £1,177,488.68 in 2018 (latest available figures).

So I think £2m will get you better.

Good move for both parties clearly one his day but for whatever reason error prone, he'll get a fresh start without judgment and we get £4mill and a chance for a new keeper.
Thank you and farewell DB

I had a feeling that grew as the season went on that he was going to leave this summer. We will see what happens but i think we will improve on Dan.

Be interesting what Inaki Cana says about the new goalkeeper coming in compared to Bentley.
There were errors in Bentleys goalkeeping that were under the surface that were laid bare to all last season.
His performance against Sheff Wed at home in early August first season was as good as we had seen in years.
But after flapping against Sunderland and Leeds the following Autumn holes started to appear.
He was a big bear of a man and by all accounts a big presence around the changing room, he was an Egan sort of character good for team morale so that will be missed as much as his goalkeeping. A good character was Bentley.
It is right Bentley has moved on for profit to relaunch his career whilst we look for better.
Inaki Cana would have had to have a say in this as a good guess - maybe he spotted flaws in Bentleys game early that others had smoothed over, you would hope it would be one of his recommends to come in - this will be one of the key three signings this summer.

Can't disagree with any of this, and it's now Cana's reputation on the line
