What are the rules with regards to the 25 man squad for the Premier league? Can we sign an unattached keeper and register him to play? There must be a few experienced Danish keepers who would happily sit on the bench for a few months?

Immediate thought...FFS! Raya has been exceptional this season, some top drawer saves, fantastic distribution and dominating his box.

Subsequent thought...Thank f*ck our DoFs decided to bring in a quality back-up in the Summer transfer window!
Fully agree, that is why it was the right decision to bring in an experienced back up to Raya. Can you imagine having to play Gunnerson for the next 4 or 5 months. Now that would be a worry. Again the Dofs are one step ahead.

I thought that Alvaro was probably going to be the replacement for Raya next season, if he moved on…. Just means he will be stepping up 10 months early….. good luck Alvaro!

I still puzzle about the club‘s medial updates. They provide an update about Raya 48 hours after he does the injury, and yet there’s been silence about Baptiste, who could be out for a similar timescale. Very strange.

Wonder if we’ll have a rethink on signing Willy Cabalero until the end of the season. Pretty sure he hasn’t found another club yet

Maybe to do with the player's wishes? Medical information is confidential after all.

Who was the b...... that injured him.
No one to blame, it was a 50-50 and both went for the ball, just one of those things, we have to live with it and carry on, He will be a big miss, but Alvaro will now have to step up to the plate, and it's a good job we brought him in, This is where our defensive line up will have to be on top form for protection.

How has Alvaro looked in the cup games? I am guessing he wasn’t tested much but in terms of distribution/cross handling?
Difficult to say, no chance with the Forest Green goal. Looked competent in the little he had to do. Re distribution who is at Raya's level.

Not on this one. Anyone with any sense would have brought in another keeper. Their skill may well be bringing in the right one.

You cannot change the 25 man squad until Jan. So anyone that comes in would have to meet the U20 rule. And we have a few of them already.

We’ve got a hat full of goalkeepers on the books. Gunnarsson is back in Jan also.

and even then I think they had to be on the list submitted at the start of September

If we had not signed Alvaro I think we may have been given dispensation by PL to loan someone in. Shepherd and Cox haven’t played a league game between them.

Surely our choice not to have 3 senior GKs on the list of 25...

PL does allow signings outside of windows in exceptional cases with goalies probably being the main exception

Thank f*** we’ve collected as many points as we have so far, this could be fatal.

Been our best player, get well soon David.

That's the spirit. IIRC we got relegated when we sold Hogan, Maupay, Watkins, Benrahma, Mepham etc. In fact IIRC we are currently in the Conference South and sitting in 46th place.

Pull yourself together man!

Gutted, best keeper in the premier league.

sh*tting hell. What a nightmare for him and us.
Thank god we got the news lad in, but we are getting an unbelievable amount of bad luck this season, we don’t deserve it.

As I said on here a little earlier, life’s not fair, get used to it. We’ll be fine. No point naval gazing. Alvaro to the rescue!

That may be the case, but there were plenty of posters on here not wanting the Dofs to bring in any keepers and stick with Gunnerson. Not that he is a bad keeper but he is just not ready yet.

Good luck to David in his recovery and look forward to seeing him fit and playing again. I think Alvaro could be another Vitaly moment; we were all worried after Norgaard's injury last season, little did we know his replacement was already with us.

He's fantastic and everything but actually how many vital saves has he had to make? We've generally kept teams down to a very low number of good chances and there's no reason why that will change because David is out. It will have an impact on playing out from the back I guess but we've generally been going long anyway. What we will miss are those fantastic long passes of his into players' feet or into space for the counter. Hopefully Alvaro has been practising hard on those!

The whole team/squad has been phenomenal so far this season, but there are two players who stand out above the rest as the very fulcrum of what we do and how we do it. I mentioned this in the MOM thread on Sunday. Norgaard and Raya are absolutely pivotal. This is a big blow. Not saying we won't be fine, because I know nothing of the bloke who's going to fill David's boots for most of the season, but he will have to be a remarkably good keeper AND sweeper/quarterback to step into them.

Part of a superb spine so far, Raya, Jansson, Norgaard, Toney

Really nothing about the saves he makes tho is it (although there were a few beginning of the season). Pressure is on Alvaro but i'm really pleased we're not relying on Daniels...

If I was TF, Alvaro needs game time so he’d play the full 90.
Tough one isn’t it. Worth risking him and then going 2 months with the kids in goal!?

It’s possible whoever is number 2 moving forwards needs the game time even more.

I’d play him. He could just as easily get injured in training and it’s not like he needs a rest.

Okay. Think positively. Alvaro is too high a calibre player to be a simple number 2…. His loan with an option to buy was very clearly made so that we would have the security of buying a player we know in the likely circumstance Raya was to be sold in the summer…. For whatever reason Raya isn’t sold then neither the player or Brentford would have to commit to being a number 2. I guess this current news means we get a lot more change to see Alvaro this season; it also likely increases the likelihood of Raya being here next season as well…

I don’t think I ever said it was fair nor am I nasal gazing.

Simply pointing out the rotten luck with injuries we are having this season,
