Rotten luck for David (and us!) but every cloud has a silver lining and all that - Alvaro will proberly be better than him knowing the magic that the DoF perform each transfer!l

Never dull at Brentford that's for sure.

Get well soon champ

Bad news to wake up to, big big loss. Saw the rumour and hoped it wasnt true, but we have to move on. Be interesting to see what we do tonight.

Tough one isn’t it. Worth risking him and then going 2 months with the kids in goal!?

It’s possible whoever is number 2 moving forwards needs the game time even more.
He could just as easily get injured against Burnley and it’s the same outcome.

We have 2 games today and 3 keepers to call upon, is that right ?
Cox, Shepherd and Alvaro
Gunnarsson and Balcombe out on loan and can't be recalled till January

And Winterbottom. Suspect Shepherd to be the bench keeper for now and Gunnarson will be back in December

Very bad news for Raya. But, Alvaro will prove himself to be a top quality goalkeeper.

That's a real blow for him and us, the biggest disappointment this season so far for me and hope he's on the mend soon.

Opportunity for Fernandez though

I do feel for these young men, DR, MBS, JDS, SB etc who are all missing their chances to appear on the biggest football stage in the world.

Hope they all get to do it many, many times with us in their futures.

Emergency loan for Luke Daniels to provide cover for Alvaro as we’ve got no other keeper who has made a competitive senior start?

Really bad news for the player, team and the fans. We seem to be getting a serious injury every other game. Nevertheless, I am sure we are going to survive this.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we sign a guy on a free (can still be registered) like we did with Zanka to back up Alvaro.

Guess that would depend on if we have a free slot.

Emergency loan to sit on the bench? Not sure it quite works like that?

Gutted, best keeper in the premier league.

sh*tting hell. What a nightmare for him and us.
Thank god we got the news lad in, but we are getting an unbelievable amount of bad luck this season, we don’t deserve it.
We are indeed. No doubt the "pundits" will neglect to mention our lengthy injury list, yet go to great lengths explaining how our opponents are missing key players. Apparently Chelsea had a "makeshift defence" against us, but of course the fact we were missing 3 key central midfielders as well as our RECORD signing didn't even warrant a mention

Liking the half full post!! Have to feel for the lad, he cant have been far off a Spain call up.
At least Alvaro has already got a full Spanish cap, That's obviously why the DOF's chose him, plus he has played 22 times for Spain at U18,19,20,21 &23 levlel, so he can't be bad at all, you never know he might turn out better than David, we shall see, It's a big blow but I have every faith in our system.

Gutted ofcourse, David is a very important player but this shows the importance of bringing in a quality stand in like fernandez. Would be more worried if ivan got a bad injury. GOD FORBID
I’ve been saying this is why we need reinforcements in Jan. another striker so we can manage Toney a bit more and attacking midfielder perhaps These injuries are leaving us thin on the ground for sure.

So our keeper gets injured but our DOFs had lined up a replacement in the form of a full Spanish international. Quality scouting and forward planning as ever. Admittedly his cap came when a lot of under-21s were bought in owing to covid in the squad but he is highly rated. Not sure if I would play him tonight, he will not be playing with the same defenders at the weekend and Stoke can be a touch agricultural. Really sorry for Raya who has been brilliant this season so far.

Nit picking yes, however, it was not “a lot of under-21s” it was the entire under 21 squad, every member including the manager, and coaches. This of course does not diminish the underlying message of your post which is well made.

My thoughts also, perhaps finish off the negotiations for the chap from Copenhagen, Wind I think. Then maybe Cajuste, and to deal with the current problem recall Gunnarsen.

He has to play tonight as he needs match sharpness. With a keeper it's all about reactions and getting your positioning
right in terms of match play. It's rare for a keeper to get a serious injury so the chances are he will get a long run in the team.
We don't give too many clear cut chances in games so as long as the defence continues to play well we should be able to cope
with Raya's absence. Even when he is fit he will need some time to get sharpness back so will have a few B team games I would imagine.

I’m as gutted as the next person that Raya is out but is it me or do some of the “We are all with you”, “Stay strong” etc type messages sound a little weird?

As I understand it Gunnarson cannot return before December.

And that's what worries me, having taken a keen interest in watching Burnley lately as it's my first game for a long time.
Burnley are an awful, dirty team, leaving the boot in etc, especially when behind.
And our old friend Tarky is one of the main culprits, just hope the ref can control this one, otherwise the list may grow longer!!!!

Although young and inexperienced both Cox and Sheppard are highly rated. Get one of them on the bench on a regular basis, should boost their confidence no end.

They will obviously target a new keeper straight away, watch out for Wood's elbows!!

Are you sure?
Simon,Sanchez,De Gea, Arrizabelaga would be ahead of him surely?
He has 1 cap, which makes number 3 in my book. 😆
His senior cap was a bit of an anomaly.

Spain were preparing for a warm-up friendly vs Lithuania when one of their players went down with Covid. So as a precaution, they isolated the senior squad and used their U-21's instead.

Still, AF kept a clean sheet as Spain won 4-0 and in so doing, became the first Huesca player ever to win a senior Spanish cap. :sorted:

He was also back up to Simon (Spain's first choice keeper) for the side that won the gold medal at the Olympics so at the very least he's someone highly thought of within Spain's international setup

Clearly, and neither can we sing Wind or Cajuste. We have to wait until the January window so nothing we can do other than hang on in there, and hope that nothing else goes amiss.

No doubt it's a feather in his cap, but as with his senior cap, players in Tokyo had to be under 24, with a maximum of 3 over age players permitted:
Spain names men's football squad for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

(I'm not in any way dismissing his achievements btw, merely looking for context)

Very worried about injury list and possible effect on our Premier Status. Why do we seem to have so many injuries especial.ly long term injuries and why do we seem to be told so little about prognosis (apart from Raya)

I'm sure other clubs, like we do, carry out a wealth of analysis on clubs based on their likely line ups. Why therefore should we tell them that we're not going to be playing with a left footed centre back, or a mobile forward like Bryan is going to be replaced by more of a box striker or a hard running midfielder is going to make way for a creative one? It would just make their analysis easier.
