My cousin Denis sadly passed away aged 79.
He was a regular at Griffin Park in the 50s, 60s, 70s and occasionally 80s & 90s.
He was manager of Middlesex Sunday football team Green Side Dynamos.
Denis was a good cricketer and stalwart at Twickenham Cricket Club becoming vice president. He amongst others coached a 14yr old John Varney.
Denis was Twickenham born and bred like all my family and lived with his mum and dad (Mag & Harry Sullivan) a couple of doors away from the Prince Blucher opposite Twickenham Green. He had all his loves within a few yards of home and even worked round the corner at automotive the engineering company.
Although as the years go by and the memories fade, I will remember Denis as a fellow BFC fan, a real character like his dad and a good companion to my dad at BFC.
For the older BFC on the GPG who might remember, Denis and my dad use to also go to Redlees Park to watch football in front of very good crowds - not sure of the decade. Apparently my dad may have met my mum there or arranged to meet her there when she was walking the dog.
Denis's funeral was this Wednesday and it was nice to see lots of BFC colours flowers and monitors emblazened with the BFC badge.
Denis was a real character and it was fitting that his committal song was Lonnie Doneghan and My Old Man's A Dustman.
Here’s to you Denis
