Tough to turn the corners though!
A fun few minutes of side slipping then. Where is this?

Not quite as steep as Face de Bellevarde at Val d’Isere.

Kitzbuhel

Face de Bellevarde isn't even the steepest slope in Val d'Isere!

The Wall ("Tortin") in Verbier. Had to carry the other half's skis from top to bottom as she went down on her ass down a 400m mogul field. It was a long way!
L'épaule in Val d'Isere. The amount of couples I've seen fighting on that slope.
There's another one in Verbier too. Top of Mont Font? Try it in a 40 mph wind.
1 or 2 in Courchevel too. Another one that ended up with broken fingers for the other half.

Tortin is easy peasy, vertical at very top (the wall bit), but soon flattens a bit. But Mont Fort is simply horrible, reverse camber as you come out the lift, one slip and it feels like you would fall a couple of miles down. My knees went to jelly and simply wouldn’t function.

I avoid mogul fields when I can, my knees don’t like them and while they can be fun if you nail the turns perfectly, if you don’t they are just a chore. I think the thing with Face is that it is quite long so there’s no respite and no real way to control your speed other than by having very good technique. A short horror steep bit near the top of a slope at least gives you something to look forward to!

I used to fancy myself as a pretty decent skier and then I spent a few weeks in Norway.

We’re never going to be as good as a local who skis every weekend and has been doing so since they were about 4 when we get to do no more than a week or two a year! I take the view it’s a holiday and meant to be fun so have just got to a standard where I don’t fall over, can spend the day skiing all round the resort enjoying cruisey reds and blues, if in a bind I can navigate a black to avoid a big detour but why bother otherwise. Nice big lunch, a few beers in the sun around 4 before doing a few runs before the lifts close and it’s quiet. No lessons, no wasting time by trying to get on the first lift of the day, just time it to get on before the lessons have come back for their second run. Then a ton of meat and cheese for dinner.
