Seems to confirm that the Dofs got it spot on to let him go when they did.
Also I think TF has known him for years so will have a good knowledge of his strengths and weaknesses.

I thought he had been offered a new contract at some point early / mid last season and he chose not to accept it?

If so I can understand the club removing him from forward planning and that could only end the way it did.

The irony is that they seem to be playing a 4-3-3 which doesn’t allow room for a second striker or Number 10, so he has the same issue he had here

The “I told you so’s” are still happy to have a little dig at Emiliano!

Let it go .. he’s a Bournemouth player now, but he will always be a Brentford legend for that goal at Wembley
It’s odd, it seems to me that when a player is still at the club but isn’t in the first team, his reputation grows exponentially (eg Fosu), but when a player leaves - however good he was, and however long he played for us - a re-writing of history takes place and the verdict is “good riddance” / “never rated him”

Don't think anybody said they never rated him? More a case of observations and opinions being expressed when he was with us, and why he has not played much since leaving for Bournemouth. I am sure after the PO final everyone hopes he will do well, but it's not happening at the moment is it, so generates discussion.

We love football but this is a career and Emiliano is adapting to his new club but earnings and right contract comes first in any job.

My understanding is we did offer him a new contract earlier so we did see something in him but maybe contract offer wasn't right.

He ended up with a three year contract at Bournemouth at an important stage of his career and hopefully he got the wages and eventually gets the playing time he deserves. We don't know if our Dofs offered such a long contract or not but in terms of his job which it is he did very well and fair play to him.

My guess is the contract he was offered early in the season reflected the club’s view of him as not a regular starter and so not as generous as he will have received from a team who were keen to bring him in as a key player. His late season play off heroics will have increased his negotiating power with Bournemouth.

I just re-lived the playoff semi-final second leg by reading the Guardian minute-by-minute coverage. Awesome stuff. Emiliano, ledge among ledges.
That's a great read

2 min Brentford are playing with a back three, which means their official website told a big smelly lie.

Emiliano’s cross hit the raised arm of Kelly. It probably is a penalty under the current interpretation of the law, though I’m not sure it would have been given but for an almighty appeal from the Brentford supporters.

Technically known as "doing a Grealish". Despite being their outstanding player for many years, keeping them in the Premier League last year, and earning them 100 million pounds when he left, he still got booed by the ungrates at Villa park.

More out of sentiment and the parts they played getting us up, I wished both him and Henrik had been able to be with us at least this season.
Marcondes would certainly have provided more to the 25 man PL squad than Valencia or Fosu. He was another marmite character though because he was too inconsistent.

Henrik would not necessarily have got much game time this season has we stayed injury free. As things are though, he’d have been a guaranteed starter for the last 2 months!

I wished we had kept him. He earned a shot at the Premier league,
I also dearly wished that, but the speed at which he has fallen out of favour at Bournemouth shows he is not considered reliable there either. He barely ever makes it off the bench. Hopefully todays performance will lead to a reappraisal of his talents.
