He still looks for the Hollywood pass rather than keeping it simple.
Very inconsistent & that’s not what we need in a promotion push.

I’ve defended this bloke before, but it’s now getting to the stage where I’m beginning to struggle to do so. He just gets lost in games. But other games he’s top quality. But those latter games are getting fewer and far between

Had a very bad first half and one of the reasons Mbeumo didn’t see much of the ball. Didn’t improve in the 2nd. The fact that the club have not offered a contract extension says it all really, IMO he’ll go in the January window at least.

looked like a game too far for him. Was clearly knackered and surprised he wasn't hooked earlier, though we didn't really have any midfield options after Norgaard had gone off. He'll be fine after a 2 week break. These are the sort of games where we need that proper 2nd DM/box to box midfielder that we hope Janelt will be. We seem to be really struggling with fitness across the squad at the moment so need to get some more bodies back so we can rotate more.

Can't defend him today was awful. Looked knackered after 30 minutes and passing all over the shop. Having said that he's not exactly on his own in that regard today.

O well that's alright then ??

I think the biggest problem we've got is that you just can't play Jensen and Marcondes in the same side. Either with Norgaard and JDS, are generally OKish. I hope, and suspect, that if we can get Baptiste fit, or the new German lad up to speed quickly, that neither Marcondes nor Jensen will feature too regularly barring a bit of rotation from time to time.

Not together hopefully.

I’m afraid I still need an awful lot of convincing that either EMI or Jensen are good enough to be anything more than bit part players for us. Neither do the defensive aspect very well - or indeed at all today. Neither does Josh tbh, but he’s a fantastic creative influence so he makes up for it. Neither Marcondes or Jensen are reliably creative either which leaves me wondering what exactly the extent of their contribution is.

Frustrating as we know he has talent and just as we are about to consign him to the 'not good enough' he reminds us of that and we linger on with a bit of hop - well some of us more optimistic types anyway. Lacks consistency and physicality for Championship football. He was poor today, and with Jensen also it formed a very lightweight midfield, only DaSilva showed any spark in the middle & he couldn't do it on his own.

I think he’s the definition of a luxury player. Can be a game winner 1 in 5 but doesn’t contribute positively all that much in the others. I really like how he can really surprise us all from time to time, but I doubt his level of consistency will lead us to top 2. I hate to say this, but I could possibly copy and paste this into the Jensen thread too.

I think they're fine to rotate between each other but clearly against a hard pressing side like Preston, it's not ideal having the two of them in there. Having said that we were struggling even with Norgaard in, Preston were pressing us so well. This is nothing new though and a problem we've had for a while with the more creative midfielders. Presumably this is why we brought in the likes of Janelt and the younger Bidstrup to give us more aggressive options in midfield (Frank said as much in the OS article on Janelt). Biggest issue at the moment though is that before the game, Norgaard, DaSilva and Marcondes appeared to be the only match fit midfielders. Jensen doesn't look up to speed yet, Baptiste and Zamburek seem to have disappeared. We've played 3 games a week since the start of the season and Marcondes has played the majority of most of those. It really showed second half. We urgently need to rotate but at the moment we just can't. Preston were so much fresher and sharper than us and that's a massive worry. Hopefully Norgaard's injury is nothing serious but at least allows him a couple of weeks rest..

Jensen getting picked for Denmark must surely've been a fillip for him, like, the Danish setup really are looking at Brentford now, if I can play my cards right I can get in.

It's not going to go down well if we announce it in the same period as Benrahma leaving, losing to Coventry and then this. Can only hope we smash Cov and then they announce it.

Why should it matter when we announce it or what the reaction will be? Football clubs that do things just to keep supporters onside are the ones we royally take the piss out of on here and on the pitch.

Can’t see that comments on Twitter, Face Book or on here have any relevance. If the coaches and management deem that he is good enough for a new contract then that’s fine by me.

They have far greater knowledge of what he contributes, considerably more I would suggest than those on here!! So if they are happy and believe in him then perhaps we should as well

That would be funny! 'Said Benrahma has left to join West Ham for an undisclosed fee....but don't worry, Marcondes has extended his contract!'

I personally feel that he's earned it, and would be happy for him to extend his stay. We can always sell him on next summer if needed, rather than him going for a free then anyway...

Not for me, was getting excited about Bannon coming, but that looks to have died with this announcement, I'm sure it will split the site. Doesn't do enough for me in games and for a attacking midfield his goal scoring in league games is awful. Most likely get hammered again for my views. Would be an interesting poll.

I guess his new contract will include a Nutmeg Bonus, to replace Saïd's entertainment quotient.

Being a Bees player’s a tough gig these days. Even scoring an amazing overhead volley isn’t enough entertainment!

I would happily see him score a couple of tap ins. His goals need to be by being in the right place, instead of the spectacular which won’t happen often

I’m at a loss to imagine what he needs to do to satisfy some people. Apart from scoring the match winner in every game and getting a number 3.
Probably perform at a good level with a bit of consistency. He hasn’t proven that he deserves a place in our starting 11. Others have one way or another.

He had a tap in like that disallowed due to Forss handling it recently.

He's clearly a very talented player on his day, and towards the end of last season he showed exactly what he can do... although him and Jensen have definitely flattered to deceive on a fair few occasions.

I was slowly starting to lose faith with him and Jensen... but perhaps the club really think he's going to kick on in the next year or two. Shows what I know!

More interesting is whether he'd sign a new contract. It's not exactly been smooth sailing for him, and there must be teams back in Denmark that would jump at the chance to sign him.

I think there’s always a player that some fans will never like no matter what they do. Marcondes is that current player.
I have to disagree. If you show ability consistently, put maximum effort in you will be liked, unfortunately Marcondes doesn’t do this.
I don’t think there would be a Brentford fan out there who wouldn’t want him to succeed (a proper fan anyway) but you’ve got to call it how it is....he hasn’t been good enough, he’s had chances, he’s had a run of games, not every player who comes here is a success and for me he’s not on the same level as the majority of the team. Maybe a good squad player to bring on/ play cup games but he’s not shown enough imo to deserve that place in the starting 11. I don’t think he’s a scape goat I think people are saying how they see it.
I think he’s been playing games because we don’t currently have a better option not because he’s nailed down his place.

That last sentence, if it is the case, probably indicates that he should get some encouragement while he’s here, rather than long-windedly being written off. Some of these posts remind me of the progress reports of the construction at Lionel Road.

I really like this guy and he has shown that he's incredibly gifted and very determined. He's now built for Champ battle to go with his massive tekkers. If he can find the next level up of consistency, he'll be a top Champ player.

He is a talented player, he is just unfortunate that his skillset doesn't exactly fit into how we want to play and what we need. I don't see an attitude problem and as long as he puts the effort in some of the stick he gets leaves a bad taste.

As for a new contract, none of us know the terms. Barbet was offered a contract I think but presumably one that confirmed to him his place in the pecking order and sent him running to Shepherd's Bush.
