And don’t forget his part in the “secret” set-pice routine........Pinnock has steadily improved his game over this season.
If we can cast our minds back to the start of the season, which seems a lifetime ago - it’ll soon be a year - then he took a little time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the Championship.
I think I’m right in saying that early on, Jeanvier was preferred to Pinnock.
Now, Pinnock looks as if he’s played in the Championship all his career.
Apart from his superb defensive skills, the biggest plus he has over Jeanvier, is that not only is he a great defender, but he also brings the ball out of defence and either passes forward or takes the ball forward.
By contrast, in my opinion, Jeanvier tends to defend well, but when he wins the ball, he passes sideways and is more hesitant in taking the ball forward.
I think Pinnock is now the better player because he is more decisive, and his physicality has developed enormously in defending at all costs.
He was helped by the fact that, out of 'Udders' attack and midfield, only Hogg seemed vaguely interested in stopping him coming forward. That run and that pass with the outside of his foot! Been banging on for ages about one of our CBs stepping up and pushing forward with the ball and Ethan did it superbly today. Great to see!
The way we play the ball across the back, it's an option that comes up, eventually, every single week. Crying out for this tactic last week. Well done Thomas for thinking and adapting, as ever.He was helped by the fact that, out of 'Udders' attack and midfield, only Hogg seemed vaguely interested in stopping him coming forward.
