Brentford B can confirm the signing of defensive midfielder Ethan Robb on loan from Bognor Regis Town until the end of the 2020/21 season.

The 18-year-old came through the ranks with Portsmouth before departing in the summer of 2020. He went on to feature for AFC Portchester after exiting Fratton Park, before linking up with Bognor in September 2020.

Rather that than a Canice Carroll style signing
God knows what the logic behind that one was. It reads like an Ose Aibangee piece of recruitment, until you realise we were two years into the B team project by the time CC was signed.

Neil MacFarlane seems to like him enough to give him a try, he's already played two games as "Trialist" for us, so there must be something about him, Due to it being more difficult to scour the continental market due to Brexit rules, we have to make use of deals like this, As he's only a loan until the end of the season it gives us chance to take a proper evaluation of him, Welcome to the best club in London young man.

When did he sign? I assume if he was only signed today then he won't be eligible to appear for the first team?

Taken from the Bognor Regis Newspaper today:

"With the closure of the transfer window yesterday, both clubs had to move fast to complete the necessary paperwork in time. However, Ethan is now a Brentford player and it is hoped that his performances will earn him a longer-term contract, Should he sign for Brentford beyond the end of this season, Bognor will of course be entitled to financial compensation".

I assume by that statement he should be eligible.

Was bizarre. It was pretty clear very early on that he didn't have the level of technique required. I guess we thought we needed a bit more 'oomph' and maybe we could teach him the technique?

I think we'd be right in the whatsit if we were having to consider giving him a start in the first team!! Quite a few ahead of him you'd imagine!

I think the idea is to take a good look at him in "B" team matches until the end of the season, if any good, sign him up for the future (y)

For those under + - 65, Andy Woon was a centre forward signed in the early 1970s from Bognor Regis Town, then of the old Southern League, after a trial match against Spurs in the Middlesex Cup. Woon scored a hat-trick on his league debut but found his level later at Maidstone United.

I presume we have a scout or spotter in west-Sussex as two players now signed from non- league?

Sounds more like us in the good old bad old (completely broke) days. But maybe, just maybe, a jewel to be polished.

Welcome to BFC !!!
