I can't stand watching Spain. Technically brilliant, but so bloody boring. So it's the Turkey game for me tonight, which so far is very good.

Spain vs Italy in the last 16 after their loss.

That puts Spain, Italy, England, France and Germany all in the same half of the draw.

So are N Ireland through in 3rd on the basis that Czech Republic finished 3rd with less points and Albania with the same points but worse GD?

Yes, they are through after losing 2 out of their 3 games. What a ***** idea.

N Ireland definitely through although it was Turkey who finished 3rd in their group not Czech. NI have better goal difference than Turkey and Albania who both also finished with 3pts. I reckon it is Wales v N Ireland next

No. The term would be fewer points rather than less

Most of the NI lads have Irish accents, is that allowed and should the ROI take note?

I was wondering if others feel the same as me that the best 4 third place teams has made the first round more defensive?

Yes it has, Slovakia would've come at England if they had to finish 2nd, however knowing that a draw would see them through they were happy to sit back with 10 behind the ball.

Looking ahead, the two "halves" of the tournament seem a little unbalanced... Currently Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England are all destined to meet before the Final. The other "half" current has Switzerland, Poland and Croatia...

The Euros always seem to be a bit of a mess with many unfancied teams going deep into the tournament. Looks like this year will be no different

Can't blame the organisers if England and Spain fail to get the results they should.

The positive of the expanded tournament is that it has allowed some smaller countries to be there - though some (eg N Ire, who topped their qual'g group) would be there anyway. The negative is that sides can settle for draws - or narrow defeats - knowing they will be 3rd and get through

I dont like this 3rd team qualification. It has led to less risks and more playing for draws. Would rather play spain than italy personally if we get through the next game

Hmm i suppose, but why not just hold a draw for the Quarter and Semi finals..? Instead of having Germany v Spain or France in the quarters. If that happens to happen when drawn, fine, but to make it so they WILL meet before the final seems weird. I know rwas ever thus but.. Hmm.

My wall chart says winner of group e (likely to be italy) will play runner up of group d (spain) and then we will play the winner of that match provided we beat runner up of group f which whill be decided tonight, in the quaters. If its wrong i want a refund on my poster!

England's round 16 tie play the winners of the France v 3rd C/D/E in the quarter finals. :)

The Q/F is played Sunday 3 July at 8pm

Italy v Spain play the winners of the R16 tie between Germany v ANOther, in their Q/F.

Your wall chart is correct.....all I pointed out was that we have another game to play (probably v France) in the last 16, before we can play either Italy or Spain in QF.....get it back out of the bin!!!!

It says we will play runner up of group f in the last 16, hungary/iceland/portugal/austria before going on to play the winner of italy or spain in the quaters.

Aaah....I see.....in that case, burn it now!!!!
And my mistake in my last post.....we would play France in QF not last 16......it's been a tough week....

Incorrect. England & France (QF tie) will meet Spain, Italy (last 16) or Germany (QF tie) in the Semi Finals, I believe.
