A frequent question that is asked on the GPG, and more so on other Social Media, is "How much is that money grabbing Benham taking out of the club?" or expressed another way "How much is Matthew putting into to our esteemed club, and is it more than me?"

Here is the answer up to the end of the 2014/15 season ONLY. It is a staggering £76.1m. And remember that figure is a year out-of-date. In the "Warbs Season" alone Matthew pumped in £30m....

We already know that more money will have been pumped-in for the 2015/16 season as the Capital Court lands have been bought to add on to his £24.5m total spend on the new stadium.

To give these amounts some context, to get onto the Sunday Times Rich List of the 1000 richest people in the UK one would need £103m.....

Yes the nonsense spouted is unreal, and I will be forever grateful to Matthew Benham who has given me as a supporter more than I can ever imagined. I wish the people who have sadly passed could have seen what our small club has achieved and I know they would be horrified by the stick given by our new brand of ungrateful fans!!! Thanks for everything Matthew

I work it out that he is buying a season ticket every 12 to 14 seconds on the last figures I have seen.

To try and simplify this. 8 hours sleep of a night he buys the equivalent of 2400 season tickets. So in 16 hours of 1 day he puts in the same as all the season ticket holders.

Or in one week, 10 years of current season ticket sales. The guy is a legend in his own life time.

In a year the same as 520 years worth of season tickets at least. FFS give the guy a break you ignorant bar stewards

100% agree with this. Is their any point in posting these figures on F/B or Twitter or would be a waste of time?

Haven't seen anyone attack MB on facebook or elsewhere. It won't be supporters that push him away,he will have other pressures as all businessman do. After removing the shareholders it will be difficult rightly or wrongly to get a full picture. All this contract, transfer and small fish stuff is beyond anyone's real control.
At end of day the club will survive.

Maybe some of the posters that have proliferated the various threads moaning that we have not spent to get someone in or who complain that we are selling players need to take a deep breath and understand just how dependant we are on one man.

The expectation that he will continually fund new players without ameliorating the cost with player sales is truly staggering and those moaning need a reality check

Those people on there won't see or hear it. They never will. Their minds are made up. When you read comments on here like "Benham is a businessman he knew what he was getting into".............................Any sensible person would be saying "why on earth is a successful businessman, spunking so much money up the wall, whilst he's being continually slagged off on social media........ I very much doubt he thought he'd be getting grief after all his investment!!!!!

Matthew Benham is an exceptionally clever and astute individual . He will be well aware that there are plenty who are not as bright or nowhere near and will undoubtedly realise that some of those are Brentford followers (word other than supporters chosen deliberately !) .

In this social media driven world we live in there are numerous public platforms for these ignorant and ill informed people to peddle their stupidity for all to see and in some cases for others equally lacking in intelligence to join in . They may think this makes them look clever but in fact it is quite the opposite .

I don't know whether Matthew Benham has a thick enough skin to completely ignore the worst of these comments but I'm sure he is well aware how the social media part of owning a football club works and will realise the vast majority of Bees fans support him 100% .

Fans who cannot enjoy the current situation the club is in deserve sympathy as well as criticism

I have looked and see no criticism of MB on Facebook. Don't get the sarcasm re fairy dust. Who's money do you want to spend. The season will be exciting and hero's will arise. Every game at least starts on a level playing field and I believe.

He's not selling any flats at Lionel Road, the developer will be doing that. That's what they get for building us a stadium.

Is he spunking so much money up the wall as you suggest or is he investing it wisely into a project he believes will ultimately bear fruit? Bearing in mind his stated aim of achieving promotion to the premiership, once that's achieved and the club stays there for even a couple of years, all of that investment could be recouped.

Benham's a gamber and it's his money he's gambling with.

I'm not suggesting that as soon as that objective is achieved Benham will suddenly want a return on his investment, but it certainly starts to make it possible.

It's just an alternative view to the increasingly naive one that Benham is simply pissing his money down the drain. He is after all first and foremost a Brentford fan, and just like the rest of us and wants to see us be successful.

We can point it out to the usual subjects on various social media time and time again what this man has done to put our club where it is now but the truth is the people who come out with the abuse dont want to know and dont care.

They are more interested in getting 'likes' or 'retweets' than learning and understanding the facts, as if either of those accolades are worth anything in the real world.

There seems to be an unofficial contest across twitter and facebook (not just limited to bees fans but they certainly join in) on who can be most outraged about news, who can react quickest with abuse (sorry, banter  ), who can write things off first, etc etc. It's truly pathetic.

I'll never understand why some are so determined to spoil these great times as Brentford fans for others, let alone for themselves. Its pure madness, we've all watched so much dross over the years, travelled countless miles, spent ridiculous sums of money. We finally get a rich fan who wants to make this club something worthwhile and a significant minority seem to want to destroy it, want to mock everything we do, why?!

It honestly guts me to see what an element of our support has become. Selfish, full of self-entitlement, demanding, unable and unwilling to see reason, abusive, spoilt, petulant and so on. Because of what, one play off campaign in the Championship? Lunacy. A few are even starting to suggest MB selling up to ultra-rich investors, I mean ffs where does this nonsense even come from?

Then perhaps it should be renamed antisocial media if it is just a playground for brainless tw8ts . Fortunately your wrong and that isn't 'what social media is'

Three minutes on Facebook was enough earlier regarding the Alan Judge move . Some "fans" on it who looked old enough to know better were quite frankly embarrassing . Thankfully Owlsmoor Bee was able to educate them :)

The thing is though if you'd said to most people before MB came along 'invest in Brentford and whatever you put in will be recouped when we're in the Premier League', they'd have looked at you like a loon. Just the Championship seemed like an improbable dream.

Just thought I'd put my whole post up again as I wouldn't want people (who only read your part quote) to think I was having a pop at MB:

Rubbish . I've seen loads of it on social media and I try to avoid. I still ****ing see it.

I feel insulted for the bloke with your next comment. Your ignorance is shocking. If I read it right.
Benham has already saves the club a few times . And we will only survive because of him.

Sure, I hear what you're saying.

But Benham has a different methodology to the norm he want's to apply to a football club. i.e. to achieve small incremental increases in performance that add up to large increase in performance overall and he's convinced that by applying this methodology he will gain a significant advantage over clubs that are bigger and wealthier and simply try to buy themselves success. And he's using his own money to test his theory!

I think the guy is an incredibly smart man and wouldn't bet against him achieving his aims! We're only a couple of years in to a 4-5 year project and given we've so far finished 5th and 9th in what many consider to be one of he toughest football divisions in the world and on an incredibly limited budget, I'd say what he's done so far is working.

What is sad, is those who don't appear to understand or appreciate what he's trying to do or see the bigger picture and through that ignorance become abusive.

As in all walks of life you can either seek to educate ignorance or simply ignore it.
