Few oddities though. Just a rehash of old stuff that’s been out a while.

Yup, I agree it's a bit off in places for BEES fans. For the casual observer who ain't gonna go Googling all the old stuff it is a very good set of tweets from a respected chap with a large USA following.

The early part of the thread has the stuff that hasn’t been written about much- Benham’s banking career and time working with Bloom, how that led to smartodds and matchbook. We knew those steps had happened but I’ve not seen the timeline that clearly presented. That Benham was just a well off professional who did a bit of betting on sport as recently as 2001 surprised me a bit. Back then I knew quite a lot of investment bankers who took a package and went into new careers, though it is not said it is quite possible he was in that tranche.

Genuine question.

with a new stadium with I believe no debt to it

and now PL football

what is the club actually worth?

£250m?

I'd say if we were valuing the club today £200 - £250 million wouldn't be far off. A stadium with built in conference facilities, for West London's business world post pandemic, significant hospitality suites for events, a sitting tenant (London Irish), commericial potential and if we became an established PL club with all the exposure and revenue that brings then I think it's easy to see how the value could be closer to £350 - £400million in a few years.

We don't own the freehold on our training ground so I guess that would reduce the value slightly if the whole business was being assessed. It'll be interesting to see if that is looked at if we remain in the PL, wouldn't be a bad investment if it was possible.

That was all removed when the stadium was derisked. One of the links on the article links through to MB statement on that very point - he did not want to get involved in this.

As Wenger once remarked, you can only sleep in one bed at a time.

I thought I’d follow that list down a bit further to find Sheff.W. (Half a billion apparently, but still not enough to pay the players...) Going into Divs 1 & 2 there is very little information, and it’s no wonder that the EFL’s governance is the shambles that periodically plays out in the news.

For the first time since he has owned the club it is now worth more than he has invested, I hope he doesn't decide to cash in.

Probably need to add a wikipost to this thread. Add it to the list!

This thread needs some serious revisiting.

Thanks to the *truth* uncovered by @Silly Hat we know MB spent at least £250m getting out of the Championship.

Would love to read something on updated figures. Surely £250m would have made us fail FFP though? (Repeatedly)

Can’t be right.

Is Tony bloom a lifelong Seagulls supporter? If not is there a single PL club owner who is a lifelong supporter of their club? (Delia Smith??).

BFC accounts said:
Matthew Benham's total investment in the group at 30th June 2020, comprised of equity as well as loans, stood at £103.0m (2019: £100.1m). This sum includes £21.3m (2019: £19.6m) of secured loans specifically in relation to the Brentford Community Stadium project.
I suspect that the secured loan will be shown as repaid in the next accounts following the ECOworld transaction. Even with a fag packet, I doubt MB has put any more in.
