Hearing a fan yesterday talking about Benham pocketing all the transfer fees and how he hasnt spent a penny on BFC..................:banghead:
I've honestly never heard anyone say this seriously. Are there really people out there so uninformed that would make comments like that?

how would he , even if we got to prem , we would need to stay there for us to make money. AFCB have spent loads to stay afloat in the prem.
yeah don't disagree. Stay there a couple of years and he might just get his money back. Nothing contentious there I think. We get a brand new stadium, still with the golden share (?) for the fans and brilliant team. Remember the original scheme under BU before MB became involved was a new stadium which after the sale of the land for the flats and the sale of GP would leave the club in funds. Well that went out the window when Sir Matt spent circa £100m financing the club/team. God bless him.

And they're losing money by 'consolidating', presumably just on the playing side then.

Not forgetting £20m on Solanke!!
Is this what people mean when they say 'doing a Bournemouth'?

I know they're in a relatively remote location but they've thrown more money at their team than Southampton surely? Even if we get there I can't see MB and the club operating like this.

No.

We'd not spend £20m on a youngster who hasn't really done that much other than in a few loan spells. Instead we'd spend a quarter on a player in Europe, just like Leicester did with Mahrez I believe and we with Maupay, and bank the rest.

And for that reason we'd be profitable in the PL if we consolidated, basically we'd supermax the current recruitment policy and instead of selling to lower ranking PL teams we'd be a feeder to the top 6/8 and the Euro lot.

Maybe so, but whatever their P&L and turnover etc, the owner knows that in membership of the PL, he has a "Golden Ticket" which could easily persuade some other billionaire(s) to take a punt on them, thereby giving him all his money back and more, potentially much more.

Remember, all bar a couple of the very worst-run PL clubs are now making a profit, and have been for a few seasons past.

I kid you not. You would be surprised how many Bees fans think this.

There’s one in The Hive who believes it’s true and will tell anyone in earshot at the end of every match.

Probably the same bloke who used to spout off about everybody being sheep for believing Lionel Road would get built.

I cant see us spending on the levels that Bmuff do. How they can sustain that is beyond me.

.......it's the mind-boggling rewards where even the bottom 3 in the PL receive more than £100m each in the season they end up in the bottom 3, let alone the parachute payments that come afterwards......that's why it's very important (for MB) that BFC has its season(s) in the spotlight.......

.......didn't Mahrez cost Leicester only £400,000 if reports are correct?.......

MB has put literally tens of millions into BFC. I suspect the guy who spouts off in The Hive knows the price of a pint to the nearest 1p. Oh dear.

Yes. There is an incredible amount of Bees fans who really don't know anything about the club, it's past, present or future.

I've put it somewhere else that a couple of seasons ago, sitting in the Inverness, a long term fan I dont know was informing other long term fans that I do know Benham has nothing to do with any of it, he's not put anything in to the club blah blah and the best bit was that he hasn't funded the new stadium, Hounslow council have !!! Yes the same council who traditionally want nothing to do with the club and never supported us. Nothing to do with Benham of course that LBH are more on board these days.

What I couldn't believe was the long term fans I know were taking it all in and questioning why Benham wasn't putting the money to get us promoted.
Shocking

Ruislip is well able to speak for himself, however, I am sure that taking the total value of all the current players including ‘B’ . This value added to the current value of Lionel Road ( Griffin Park) , even the current organisation has a value, and all totalled up it the sort of price that a seller would require. It is not difficult to imagine someone paying in excess of the amount owed to MB.
As for the cost of staying in the Premier League then that is for the future.

There are thick people out there, you can not rationalise with stupidity. People just pick up on stuff they hear and repeat it to join in the conversation.

You are so right absolutely spot on. The same can be said on the multitude of conversations that are carried out on numerous other subjects where people quote fake news just to sound knowledgeable.

We absolutely need to be thankful for what MB has done for the club. Without him we would be nowhere. But he's smarter than just spending £113m.. if you were to look at a notional balance sheet of the club including estimated player asset values then the amount he's put in is probably not that far off now what his club is worth.. how many owners can say that?
Exactly! The guy is an absolute genius. If he wanted to I reckon he could walk away tomorrow, sell the entire squad and redevelopment project and not be massively out of pocket.

My daughter ( ST holder) is attending an informal Matthew Benham talk/Q&A at Wadham College tomorrow.

Should be interesting, could have gone, but I am on jury service .

I liked this sentence,reassuring.

"It’s clear that Benham is somewhat of a rarity at the elite end of English football: a true fan in it purely for the love of his club. Sharing a couple of hours with him was more like bumping into a non-league club owner in the clubhouse; he is disarmingly normal, as far as football people go"

My daughter attended the talk, along with only about 20 others, it was very informal, lasting an hour or so.

She was the only Brentford supporter there, which was obvious from a question she asked, most were city./statistic related, including from a Birmingham suppporter who got some friendly abuse from MB.

Afterwards MB made a beeline for her and spoke one on one for 20-30 minutes which she was obviously absolutely thrilled about.

He knew I had posted about her attendance on the forum.

MB said he would answer ANY questions and was EXTREMELY candid about everything,players/coaches both past and present and the transfer window, giving a full run down who was likely to leave and stay, who he would love to have back at the club etc. However, he did say he didn't want to read about any of that on the GPG, which is why I was unable to post a follow up, but I apologise for not at least reporting that.

I hope you all feel as inspired after the meeting as it seems from your words above? The man seems to just have “ it “ with a passion.

What a great experience for your daughter. And how frustrating for all of us who are left guessing about what he said!!

It was, she was buzzing afterwards and fully appreciates how fortune she was . Probably rare too for MB to be able to have a one on one with just a regular supporter in a relaxed enviroment.

Thanks for the PM, I am genuinely astounded at who’s due to sign and cannot believe how much we are getting for the players on the way out...
I promise I’ll only post it to Brentford Loyal on Facebook as per your request. :sorted:
