Remember a pissed up old bloke in the White Hart, Harlington. When my mate told him he was a Fulham fan, he started naming all the "greats" of the past, including the above, who he referred to, in all seriousness, as Leighton Buzzard.

Also remember my son as a 5/6 year old asking me, when the England team was announced, if Hemel Hempstead had been picked (Emil Heskey).

A bloke I used to work with had a list of Buckinghamshire villages that sounded like West Indian fast bowlers - I remember the opening partnership of Aston Clinton and Weston Turville, but there were others.

Stoke Mandeville ?

Alan Buckley (Walsall?). Buckley is in Cheshire I believe... .

Some the lower league players, especially from Northern clubs in years gone by, seemed to have surnames which were possibly towns and villages. Perhaps it is a northern thing.

Very nice Kent spot close to Tonbridge. The place of Angels.
Except Leigh in Kent is pronounced Lie. Apologies if you are talking about somewhere else.

Harwood-Bellis of Blackburn. Sounds like a firm of provincial solicitors rather than a place though,.
