Oh well never mind. Still a lot of entertainment to look forward to next season for those that can get to GP.

At least we blew it ourselves and not Derby and Boro winning. Striker or 2 in the summer please please before anybody else.

Unbelievable. Have we got to put up with this all summer? Season hasn't even finished yet.

Can't see Burton turning around a 12 goal difference, sadly.

They don't need to if they win and Brum lose.

Mind you, looking at the fixtures Burton & Barnsley have next week, it's extremely unlikely both would win.

Ryan seemed to be the only one showing any urgency - he was a class apart in the second half. Ollie Watkins is not a £10 million player yet. Hope we add rather than subtract too much in the summer.

What I was thinking. Put it down to experience.

Tired? Pressure? It is a bit weird.
Put it down to the first 8 games, QPR away etc, inability to be clinical at times.
Shame, but there you go. Next Sunday would have been fun.
Hopefully next season we can do something with a few additions and hopefully not too many departures.
All a bit of a damp squib to the season end.
A season of 'if onlys'.
Some great moments, though, overall.

Great first 15 minutes. Conceded a fluke goal, then fell to pieces.

Sad end to an excellent season.

Hopefully a fireworks display against Hull to end up with.

I expect we will see a lot of changes during the summer now. It will be a different squad next season

In conclusion, we aren’t quite good enough for the top 6 this season.
We don’t have enough up front, and we can’t out battle teams when we need to consistently.

For our position I don't think the number of goals we've scored is too bad, and once we got over the bad start this team were more than capable to compete in this league. I suppose it's expected that players will leave this summer, but if we started next season with the same squad, I would still think top 6 a good possibility.

It depends how you look at it. As a raw figure, you're right, there are enough goals scored to have got us in the P.Os. However, when compared to goals scored against shots on goal, we are by far, the most wasteful team in the division. Of course, we won't convert all our chances, but we put ourselves under unnecessary pressure by only being one goal in front, despite dominating. We can't blame bad luck all the time when a team equalise and steal points, when the real issue is that we shouldn't be giving other teams a sniff if we converted more chances.Perfect example today as we dominated until they scored, then went to pieces.

Sitting on coach 6 obviously I am very disappointed, but today has summed it up quite well.
After the freak goal we needed somebody to grab the team by the scruff and pick them up. As it was the rest of the first half was a write off. As was the second half to be fair.
Their goalkeeper was playing only his second game this season, and didn’t have to make a save.
We could have played for another 90 minutes and not scored.

One of our worst performances of the season today. Showed our limitations and why we are some way from beiny ready to go up yet.

Unfortunately for Birmingham City to get relegated we need Fulham to win at theirs last game of the season which sticks in my craw so to speak. At least Cardiff should beat Reading at home to stop Fulham getting promoted.
We then need two out of three to win from Bolton v Forest (good chance), Burton at PNE who are chasing the play offs (slim chance) and Barnsley at Derby which on paper is a slim chance but with only one hour separating them there will be a lot of loud Northern Monkeys in attendance to help their team over the line.

Gutless and spineless

Harsh. An off-day, to be sure. But football is a confidence sport and I guess the players, once that intended cross had drifted out of the blue and into the net off the post and crossbar, felt that the footballing gods had turned against them. They got rattled, started arriving late for second balls, misplacing passes, and the sparkle of our play slowly faded.

Tomorrow is another season. Hopefully we'll hold on to the great majority of our younger players who, with the extra year's experience, will improve their decision-making in the final third and start banging them in with greater regularity.

Looking forward to August.

That's it in a nutshell. When you sell your only real striker and put your faith in a 20 year old,( who before anybody starts screaming may well come good) player with no experience of the game in England let alone the Championship what did the DOF''s really expect ?. With Vibe we had a real chance of a top 6 at least, maybe better. It wasn't as if we got 10 million for him. A big decision that IMO backfired.

I was hoping that we’d grown up a bit and matured.

We fell apart for a long spell after QPR equalised and it looks like we felt sorry for ourselves again today after a freak goal from out of the blue and could not recover.

Why? In such a crucial game too.

First 10 mins and all looked good and was thinking this could really help with our goal difference.
Freak goal from a poor cross and suddenly we couldn’t string a pass together and looked like 11 strangers. There was no togetherness, typified by the glaring open goal miss with Dalsgard and Bentley almost coming to blows.
Not quite good enough, but still a good season.
If only we had more luck / points from our first 8 games......

Here's a stat for you. 11 goals scored in the last 12 games (straight after the Brum hammering).

It's amazing we were still in with a shout before today. Brentford generally don't do 1-nils any more, but we dug out a few to get some points. However, it puts paid to those saying 'we score enough goals' blah, blah. With shots on goal, that is a woeful statistic, which I'm sure that won't have gone unnoticed by our data crunchers and it is proof, for me, that the gamble of making some money on Vibe was a mistake in the grand scheme of things. Of course, we don't know if he'd have made the difference and never will, and the reality is the midfield didn't step up to the plate and score goals as has happened in the past when we rely on one striker.

I'm not moaning - we've done brilliantly to get so close, but I reckon shipping Vibe has been the difference.

He wanted to go. He hadn’t done much anyway. Another player who people think is better when he’s not playing. We got money for him instead of sod all. Don’t say he was on a contract as he was looking to get out.

A sad end to our hopes on reflection.
Slipped away with our worst performance of the season.
Sad for me personally because due to a change of work commitments I won’t be able to get to many games next season.
Kind of the end of an era for me.

Interesting stat.

I defended DS to the hilt before last Saturday's match when it was suggested that failure to make the play offs would be an under achievement on his part as our recruitment policy was top notch.

As you say, we'll never know whether having Lasse or a replacement around would have made a difference but I think DS has been left a bit short of genuine options up top.

I wonder if the DsOF are a little surprised how close we have come?

We didn’t lose the play-offs today, we lost it in the first eight games of this season. I’m still proud of what we’ve achieved.

We’re the envy of a lot of football fans in what we do on the pitch and I take comfort from that.

Another great season in the championship and looking forward to the next. More important to look for promotion next year and then into the premier league in 2019 with the new stadium. It wasn't meant to be this year as it wasn't when Trotta missed the penalty....Look where Doncaster and Yeovil are now.

....pity the boys left their worst away performance of the season till last.....we were all over the place....no shape no system....never seen us have so many 'hit and hope' passes and really long balls....our passing game never got going....few players had shockers....no point naming and shaming.....hope we at least finish the season next week with some quality football....there certainly wasnt any on show today.

Hmmmm...I posted something earlier this season regarding this and got shot down in flames but it was a personal observation rather than one I believed existed at the club.

I think it's clear that the top six teams are the best six teams and deserve their play off places. Equally, the bottom six are the worst six and deserve to be battling relegation. The other six teams in the top half are "the best of the rest". In other words the table is a good reflection of playing strength and, by and large, everyone has pretty much got what their efforts deserve.

We can be satisfied that we've done quite well within or financial constraints. There's no shame in finishing 9th or 10th. In fact I'd say it's a damn good effort. The top six are, with perhaps one exception, the six with the biggest playing budgets - proving that money talks in this division. It would have taken a fantastic effort to have upset the odds and to have gatecrashed the party. Frankly I never thought it was likely and I'm not going to cry over something that was always close to an impossible dream. I'm just pleased that, after a dreadful start, we've finished very respectably, playing proper football and earning the admiration of a lot of true football people.
