I remember a game at home to Brighton probably 1998 when a Brighton defender and Fulham reject scored an own goal when nobody was anywhere near him.

I recall watching the highlights of a game on Match of the Day or The Big Match, back in the '70s; I think it was Leicester vs somebody and the Leicester keeper played a short goal kick to his full back, expecting him to head off with it, but as the keeper turned to walk back to the goal, the full back decided to play it back to him, without looking and curled a beautiful shot in at the far post.

Wasn't there one doing the rounds a while back where a defender facing his goal does an overhead kick into his face and then into the net?

John Ridley the Chesterfield defender bent one into his own net from 30 yards in about 82

Danny Cullip?

I remember a Tuesday night game where a Carlisle defender scored from just outside the area making the score 1-1. The OG was pretty good but what made it funnier to me was both the goals were scored just after half time and my mate was still queuing to get into the loos and missed both goals

Portsmouth once scored an OG v Wimbledon direct from their own kickoff after they had just conceded. Passed back to the keeper who was still having a moan about the first goal and not paying attention to what was going on.

I seem to remember an own goal from near the halfway line, I think by Cambridge United, at Griffin Park in the 80s. Anyone recall that?

Do you mean Tony Folan scoring from just over the halfway line v Cambridge in 1998?

No. I may have combined two goals but the one I mean was one where the ball went to the defender who was maybe five to ten yards inside his half. He decided under no pressure to half-volley/chip it back to his keeper but he shanked it and it went flying up in the air and over the keeper. It was during a period when we were playing some awful football, so it might have been around the time of (the younger) Tom Finney in c.1980-2, or Steve Butler and George Torrance in 84-86ish

Brentford vs. fu**am
Bees attacking the Brook rd. end.
Someone crossed from the left. Poor cross, quite low, not going near any Brentford player.
fu**am full-back Elkins stoops, almost kneels down, and gently heads the ball in the goal.

That's how I remember it, anyway.

I can recall a Brentford Player score an OG from the Halfway Line away to Plymouth in the FA Cup. Although I was there I can't remember who scored. All I can remember is the Brentford player running round kicking any opposition player near him unti lPeter Gelson grabbed him and cooled him down before the ref gave him an early bath.

I remember chesterfield home 87 where one of their defenders managed to chip the keeper from the edge of the 6 yard box

I think it was straight from the the kick off. ball played back to 'our' Billy virtually on New Road touchline and about half way inside his half. Billy turned and lobbed it back into the far top corner of his side's goal. 1-1!!!

That is probably the one I was thinking about in post #16

Mellberg/Enkelman

There was another wonderful own goal by a non-league player in the FA Cup a few years ago whilst trying to slash a ball to safety behind his own goal.
Seem to remember Hansen and rest nearly pissing themselves.
