Linked with Forest player Brennan Johnson - on loan at Lincoln. Plays as one of the '3' in a 4231. 19yo and goal contribution every 142mins (12G 12A) in 39 games.

Heard we were after Jack Stretton of Derby.

Me too still play with our faster pace group (lots of 50+) 3 wins and 2 draws today, a goal and hit the post, and I am 76

If Derby and/or Sheffield Wednesday go down I expect we will look at some of their players.

Krystian Bielik, 23, is the best under 24 player from those 2 but we probably have our DCM quota. Great if someone comes in for Nørgaard, though. If we're looking at centre backs, then Matthew Clarke is 24 and a good prospect.

I thought Bielik looked really good before his injury.

I'd like us to look at Josh Doig at Hibs as a left back option to replace Henry when he goes

Not so sure on Clarke, he hasn’t impressed the locals

We're going up through the playoffs ;) so any replacements will need to be PL ready! Not sure guys who are relegated to L1 fit the bill.

Seriously though I'd rather we were looking at the very best young players at Lincoln, Blackpool, Charlton (again) and Oxford (again) than the bottom of the Championship. If we do have to sell Toney, Rico, JDS, Raya etc then the £5-10m price tag to bring in top L1 players won't be a problem

The CB on loan at Blackpool from Arsenal, forgot his name, would be a dream signing for me. He looks real quality

I thought Djed Spence at Boro has looked good on the occasions I’ve seen him. I can also see why were previously interested in Bola.

Yes, I liked him too. Would be difficult to get him away from Boro now though.

I find it very difficult to judge the quality of players in the Scottish Premier when some of their opposition would not look out of place in Leagues 1 or 2 here

Yes- if he had 8 stellar performances against Rangers and Celtic, maybe. Otherwise, the rest of the matches are games at below B team level in terms of skill but with a much harder physical edge.

But you can judge a league 1 or 2 player?

We have loads of good CB's though
Best two are left sided, one might not be here next season, and another who's played less minutes this season than Dom Thom.
Although agree, we ren't exactly screaming out for one as we are in other positions.

Can't see us losing any of our CBs unless Pontus decides to move on.

EP and MBS on left, PJ and CG on right with Racic also becoming fit again. Not sure I agree with your summary. The left looks set and is likely to stay. Maybe Pontus might leave on the right but other than that cant see much change. Racic might just slip straight in on the right to replace him.

He's only 18 and performing regularly in that league. I can bet we have watched him given we will be looking for more UK based players. I would bow to our recruitment department and scouts how far they think he can go.

I did notice him earlier in the season, when I was watching more Scottish football but I didn’t realise he is so young

I'm not too sure what you disagree with? Our best CB performers are the 2 LCBs you mentioned. Pontus always has rumours, and arguably underperformed in role (& position). Goode next to no minutes, Racic even less. If we want a solid back 4 we need the right side as strong as the left.

You are correct.
Celtic are dreadful as well.
Dreadfully managed but they've got more than a few good players, plenty of players have came up from the championship and looked beyond stinking up in Scotland, there's been a good few success stories coming from there, down here.
Harry Souttar is one of the best cb's in the league for example.

I'd personally love it if we went big on Nathan Patterson, if you could get him for 10 million you're doubling your money in a couple of years.

I wish we'd bought David Turnbull when he was leaving Motherwell aswell, cracking player, Josh DaSilva esque and would've been a good replacement, although I think that's what Baptiste is earmarked for. I'd still love to get him now but him, along with Kent will be out our budget now.

Hakeem Odoffin could be picked up v v cheap though, however we are stacked in centre mid.

There's talent there...

Watching the A League this morning and the Central Coast centre back Dan Hall looks a great prospect. 21, tall but mobile and looks decent on the ball. I think it's his first season in the A league. I don't know enough about the standard in comparison to EFL.

Clarke was our main target before we got Pinnock when he was at Pompey. Always thought he was decent, left footed and good on the ball although only required if Ethan goes which I feel is unlikely.

Balogun has signed a new contract at Arsenal. So that deal, however likely/unlikely it was, has no chance now.

A couple of seasons ago I’d have said the A-League was a decent league threatening to head towards Championship level...however the league has been in decline for perhaps 3 seasons now. That said, still some fantastic and very underrated players in this league who will have no problem with the fitness and physicality of championship football. Adelaide have another player we should look at in Toure..who is pretty young and raw at present but looks like a real handful now but could be a serious talent if developed in the right hands!

I am sure you are right, however some teams do get players to sign contracts so that anyone coming in would have to pay a hefty fee,
had he not signed he would be available on a free.

Maybe, but if he was signing as a free, his agent would have negotiated 50% of his 'transfer fee' as a signing on fee. So its more attractive to the player to be without a contract.

he's with the Arse for a few years now.

unfortunately most of the prolific goal scorers in divisions 1 and 2 this season are in their late 20s.

Good post! At least someone realises that out of contract players do not come for free to the signing club. The only thing that changes is that the out of contract club gets nothing. The operative word is negotiated, and your 50% is an example which could be less, but for a sought after player such as Balogun the signing on fee could even be more, plus of course the possibility of higher wages. Whatever, I doubt that any such player that we would be seeking to sign will be for Free.

Dion Charles of Accrington (who we have been linked with) is now on 19 goals and 3 assists for the season with a couple games to go.

25 years old, now a Northern Ireland international, left footed striker that can play as a wide forward. Contract expires in summer (Accrington have a one year option, but a club like that will need to cash in rather than let him leave on a free).

They’re very well run and would take the money but not be mugged off.

Yes, really like their owner. He’s very open and vocal on social media about the many issues facing football in general.. (in a positive way)

Dion only joined Accrington in August 2019 and scored 8 from 33 games in 19/20 then this season 19 goals from 33 games.
(League goals only)
I believe this impressive improvement will continue with decent coaching. Before Accrington he had only played games in Non-League mainly for Southport

25 may seem too old for our usual formula but Dion started playing league football 2 years earlier than Jamie Vardy who left 2011/12 National League Fleetwood Champions at the end of that season on 17th May 2012 for Leicester when Jamie was already 25

Running a competitive L1 club on a budget and wages lower than most L2 and quite a lot of National League clubs, surrounded by big clubs while remaining solvent and redeveloping the ground and training/community facilities is an amazing achievement. Particularly as he wasn’t a fan and still has a big focus on his own business. All while the rules do ludicrous things like making him have to treat buying the team a McDonalds meal on the way home from an away win as a win bonus. I would expect his players to have spot on attitudes as they’d just not fit in there otherwise.
