Yes, the mittens are a nice fondant signature salute to Stuart’s ability in the air and, indeed, command of the ball, whilst the gingerbread hearts are a loving tribute to my 37th most favourite Brentford goalkeeper ever 💕
How many Brentford keepers have you known?
I'm guessing 37.

Ademola Bankole, of course 😐
He did a damn sight better than the coach, who's name I've forgotten, that played a game in goal away to Dagenham. We lost 4-0 and he didn't get near any. Scott sacked the next day.

Bad goalie cost me a bit last game of the season lumped on hull city to beat us. Bad goalie balls up within a minute conceding and I thought yes easy money. Went on to have a reasonable game snd we won 2-1

Simon Royce.

A great career playing elsewhere and a good coach for us but wasn’t even close to being a viable third choice by then.

Richard Key?

Came from Cambridge Utd, or left us for them?

No idea when your youth was, but Colin Scott played a couple of games for us, around 1990.
He wasn’t very good when we lost 2-1 at Walsall (Sparham scored for us)
I don’t recall how far he could kick the ball 🤷‍♂️

Who did he play against? Remember the name!

34 Josh Lennie
35 Simon Royce
36 John Mousinho
37 Gary Blissett (I think)
I believe it was MK Dons in the LDV Van's Trophy

The name came to me as both me and him were taken on trial at Brentford Centre of Excellence...one of us were signed, got the YTS and played for the 1st team years later.
The other was me...lol

The first 7 in your list are straight from the Frank Doberman school of naming.

BENSTEAD NOOOOOOO!!
I ADMIRE YOU AS A GOALKEEPER, IN MY TEAM, BUT
YOU ARE MEANT TO CATCH THE BLOODY BALL.

Obviously you would have to know who Frank Doberman is of course

36 and 37 were better than some of our regular keepers.

Trouble is whenever he did that we invariably went on to lose, he inspired the till then silent fans into a rabid mob who in turn got their team to turn it on

Fair point. Just all a bit meh IMO.

We've been blessed with keepers in the last 10 years and he gets a bit of OTT flack when you consider he was best of what was to be a bad bunch around those coming seasons.

Hes not the best on @Holysmit list but he sits comfortably in the top 20.

How many did you end up with?
Should this be a separate thread?

As for Stuart Nelson… not one of my favourite Brentford ‘keepers 🤷‍♂️

Pretty sure Bliss played in goal v Southend in our previous only ever year in the Championship lookalike (in my lifetime) after the regular keeper was sent off (Benstead?). Anyway we won that game if not many more after.
Amazingly Bliss kept a clean sheet.
Must have been ignoring the advice from Ashley Bayes.

Have you said that dollop Stannard? Does he count? We had one called Laurence Batty once too once. Wilfred Agbonavbare of course. 2 x Dean Williamsi (that’s the plural of Dean Williams like cactus/cacti).
Only one Dean Williams was a goalkeeper
Can’t remember what the other one was supposed to be

Oh yes he was wasn’t he. How embarrassing. Nelson used to cost us lots of points with his howlers. Seemed cocky too. No wonder Ben Hamer never warmed to him.

Dave McKellar is the first I remember from my earliest days.
I thought he was amazing.
Excellent keeper, my first was Chic Brodie who was injury prone so more or less shared the jersey with Gordon Phillips from about 1969 and then Steve Sherwood. All 3 were excellent keepers for us, Sherwood won POTY while on loan from Chelsea for the season.

Antoine Gounet? Wikipedia says he never made a first team appearance for us, but I'm sure he played in an early round of the FA Cup against (I think) Bradford City.

I remember the keep you refer to, @rebus - try John Power from your records? I remember him kicking it twice straight from hand to the other end in a home game that the crowd reacted. Power by name Power by nature. He was a tall ginger kid. I’m sure he played in one maybe two games at GP from memory

Steve was a brother of accomplished British hurdler John, who won the bronze medal in the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968 for the 400m hurdles. His time was 49.03 seconds, and he was third behind fellow British athlete David Hemery, who took gold, and German Gerhard Hennige (silver).
The commentator, David Coleman, who in his great excitement after Hemery won, made the rather unfortunate remark "who cares who's third - it doesn't matter!" It was an early example of so-called Colemanballs.

Though Steve could claim to have gone one better than John, with his "silver" medal (beaten finalist) for Watford in the 1984 FA Cup Final, won 2-0 by Everton.

A decade earlier (1974/75), Steve had been Brentford Supporters' POTY.

Yes, from Kingstonian on trial. May 1987. Also played for Farnborough Town.
