In our 3rd fixture of the season the GPGCCXI succumbed to a 14 run defeat.

With the oppo batting first, and with us only having 5 bowling options, we managed to reduce them to 127 off their 20 overs.

Gash, Pointy and Salford amongst the wickets with a couple of great catches from Ant & Jordan, especially as the background and bright sun is never easy fielding at Spelthorne CC. Also some very good wicketkeeping from Eddie MK1.

At the changeover a pink ball was suggested for our innings, but we declined as felt that would benefit the fielding team.

Russ opened up with Eddie MK 2 (a kid who fielded for us as we only had 10 players).....Eddie MK2 and Eddie MK1 were quickly out both bowled and I joined Russ at the crease. Russ took a full toss to the toe and departed fairly soon.

Glenn came in and him and I were quickly dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground, Glenn's first GPG boundaries. Glenn finally departed after surviving being bowled off a full toss (which was deemed a no ball) and that brought Ant in, but the momentum continued.

Being close to having to retire I let loose and hit 2 sixes and 3 fours in my final over and retired on 40.

Ant was next out with another bowled, Salford and Craig soon followed.

Gash came in and after changing to the pink ball, followed up his excellent bowling with 4 fours in a row and we sensed a victory was looming. Gash was soon bowled and departed on 16.

Jordan was joined at the crease by Pointy, who after hitting a four off the first ball of the 17th over, meant we needed 22 runs off 23 balls.

Couple more extras flowed and Pointy departed, I rejoined Jordan at the crease and became the 9th or even 10th bowled victim of the innings and it was all over.

Another splendid evening and we are getting closer every game. Thanks to Salford for the beers and on to the next game in June :sorted:

The losing streak continues

To be fair, we played against a decent club cricketing team and came up short, but only just.
We had a couple of "club" cricketers playing for us and they were much needed in the batting department.

We opened the batting and did fairly well getting a total of 118.
Our new recruit Tom Lonnen scored 41* before retiring and was helped along the way by Rob, Salford, Eddie & Joel.
We actually bowled well as their opening partnership was a good one, helped by their No.1 who smashed the ball to most parts.
Once he retired we reigned them in and all bowlers did well to reduce the speed and at one stage they needed over 6 an over to win.
They did get there eventually with an over or so remaining..!!

Great commitment, not only to get there for the allotted time but also to have 12 players ready and available to play.
A BBQ followed where :ITK: Wanderer Paul was forced to forward on his sources information for the coming season. We thank  for the 2nd hand info. :fishing:

Unlucky chaps, we did pretty well.

It was good to have some proper cricketers playing for a change.

We kicked on once the opening bat got out. I think he was in a timed game frame of mind......tap, tap, no, waiting, tap, no......

With a couple of drop outs, the GPGCC had 9 players but Pointy’s young lad, Luke, made it 10.

Put into bat by the Royal Holloway Lecturers, the GPG opened with Tom and Wanderer. Their two opening bowlers took care of Wanderer first, for 7, and then Tom, for 6. After 4 overs the score was 16 for 2!! Thankfully they held the best two bowlers back till last, annoyingly!

Then Rob and Alex steered the score towards 6/7 an over and both retired in the 30’s. Ant, also batting with Alex, hit a few poor balls for 4’s and a six but got out just before his 30 too.

Gaffer stepped up next, hit a four, out. Then Salford came in and hit some good fours to keep the score just above par. He was assisted by young Luke and then Pointy. Russ did not bat, unfortunately.

So the GPG made a total of 139 off 20 overs losing 6 wickets and 2 retirees. (Picture shows 5 down but it didn’t include the last ball run-out!)

The Holloway Lecturers had a good opening bat who plundered a quick 30 runs off of just 3/4 overs! Thankfully he didn’t come back in!

They were way above the score needed until a tidy spell of bowling by Rob and Alex. This was backed up by Tom and then salford. Wanderer and Pointy didn’t fare too well but made up the other four overs needed!

With just a couple of overs left, the College required 24 runs, but with Tom and Salford bowling tightly, the score was just beyond them, finally scoring 120ish off their 20 overs.

Salford picked up 3 good wickets too. The fielding, as usual with the GPG, was top notch giving little away through errors.

Well played the ten men!!! Our first win of the season! :bound:

Next up, the Anchors at Kempton CC on the 19th July. :)
