Is it possible for someone to give me a lift from the train station?

I can get to any of the nearby ones.

Another enjoyable evening for the GPGCCXI. :bound:

Back at our “home” ground at Kempton CC, the GPG opened the batting against the old enemy, The Anchors.

The pitch was green but the outfield was brown! The grass was dead. The ground was hard. Therefore the ball would/could run away from any fielder if hit on the floor.........

WP (5) and Russ (0) opened up and both went cheaply against the better bowlers - once again!! 14 for 2 off 2 overs.

Joel and Rob then came to the crease and piled on the runs, big time. Rob retired on 34. Joel retired on 33. Then Alex followed suit and he also retired on 33. A good score was definitely in the cards. The highest?? Get out the score books!!

Balders Bee finally found a bat he could use! :owusu: A few good hits - knowing there were 3 good bats back in the hutch waiting if needed - and got to 16 before getting bowled. Young Balders, on his debut, didn’t fair so well, neither did Pointy or Glenn. All three out for..........0 :(

Then in came Salford and gash. Salford, somehow, found that by striking a ball well, you can get sixes!! Scenes! Salford was out caught for 23 off the second to last ball while gash tapped his way to an unbeaten 2.

GPGCCXI; 163 for 7 off 20 overs :pop:

The Anchors would have to go some to get within a shout of the GPG’s score, that is for certain.......all they had to do was follow the GPG’s example of batting!

Well, the GPG’s bowlers didn’t let anyone down. The Anchors didn’t learn the lesson.

Gashbee opened up the bowling, a maiden. Salford followed next, 5 runs. Gashbee next over; . w . . . w  Salford next over; . w 1 2 w .

The Anchors were 4 down and only 8 on the board!!! Some well held catches from Alex (2), Glenn and gash.

Fifth over, young balders steps up, a wicket maiden!!!

A bit of stability from a couple of the Anchors bats then followed but the fielding was, once again, exemplary.

Young Balders stint of 4 overs was excellent. 1 for 15.

Pointy held an end up, 4 overs 0 for 21.

Old Balders came on, 4 overs 0 for 19.

Rob also bowled a good spell, 3 overs 2 for 5.

Salford bowled the last and had figures of 3 overs 3 for 10!

Glenn took a second catch. Old Balders took a blinding catch!!

The Anchors struggled to 74 for 8 off 20.

GPGCCXI won by 89 runs!!

This is probably the GPGCCXI’s greatest winning margin!

An all round performance and well deserved.

Some brilliant banter in the field. :)

Next up, Staines and Laleham on the 26 July.

Always a proud moment for a dad playing his first cricket match with his son & couldn't have done it with a nicer bunch of lads. Thank you everyone you've made sure young 13 year old lad will always remember his senior team debut. Great team performance, I've missed it.

.

:nono: I got 1 lol

It was a good game which I thought would be a lot closer than it actually was.

It was good to get behind the stumps again and take a few catches, some great fielding and some excellent banter in the field especially from Alex who thought up nicknames for a few of the team rofl

My MOTM was Salford who was excellent with bat and ball, even breaking the off stump in two on his final over.

Flat beer moment goes to Rob though who was unfortunately run out from the last ball of the innings :banghead:

The score book says 0....apologies Glenn. :(

We think a few runs have been spread around to other players, as gash got at least two, maybe 3 - but never a 4. Gash has just 1 by his name.

I thought Gash just played forward defensive when he was out there and left the big hits to Salford...

Robee, you are showing Ant in the team but he is not available for this one.

Very rude of Pointy to go on holiday when we have a match to play !!

Yeah, cheers Paul. He was playing and only told me this morning he couldn't.

Desperately trying to get another player.

Unfortunately not :(

From the original XI in the morning, eight made themselves available by the evening. However, thanks to gumbo, ayresome Andy and Ahmed, we took the field with eleven bodies!! Which certainly helps!!

The oppo are a good side, with several good bats and bowlers, and it told in the end.

With some good opening overs by gash and Joel, which wasn’t helped by some poor fielding - especially a couple of dollies dropped by WP - the oppo began to add on some runs. A few bats reached their retirement score of 25 and it was tough in the field in the heat. The bowling of Alex, PaulUSA, Rob and Salford whittled a few out but not enough to stop the runs from piling up. In their 20 overs SAFER reached 146 for 5 (?). Including a young bat of 9 years old who showed huge potential for the next 50 years!!

The GPG opened with WP and Andy, but after just 20 runs on the board, both got out. Rob, Joel and Alex then added some good runs with both Joel and Alex retiring. Ahmed showed a good bat but got out. Then came that young 9 year old bat. With his twirling arm and spin on the ball, in his last three balls of his over, PaulUSA, Smiffy and gumbo succumbed. A hat-trick for the young fella. Brilliant!

In the last two overs, 40 was required. Salford got out, Joel returned and went for it, holed out. Then Alex returned to partner gash and with the penultimate ball of the last over, Alex got out. GPG all out for - I think - 120ish (final score book details not copied :( )

In the circumstances, the GPG did extremely well considering the opposition. A few people short told but, a late sub did shine in Andy with the bat.

IMO, it was our fielding, unusually, that let us down on the day. Too many runs slipping by and catches dropped. :(

Another good evenings cricket though.

Thanks again to Rob for these new fixtures and testers!!!

In probably out last T20 game of the season, the GPG CC XI were victorious over Thames Water Board at Spelthorne CC.

Capt Salford was running late so Joel did the toss and lost, meaning we were to field first. The match was delayed slightly because of the amount of Goose poo on the pitch which the groundsman eventually cleared up.

Featuring 4 debutants the GPG opened the bowling with Joel and Harry who between them took 3 wickets in their 8 overs for 38 runs, removing both of their dangerous openers for 12.

Young Balders Junior (BJ) was next on and took 2 wickets for 20 runs in his 4 overs. Alex along with Kilby were unlucky in their 3 overs but Capt Salford kept it tight taking 2 wickets for only 9 runs in his 4. Along with a much improved fielding display, including 4/5 catches, the oppo were restricted to 100 exactly.

New boy Trevor and Balders Snr (BS) opened the batting and faced some quick and difficult bowling, at one stage when Balders departed (bowled) we were 9/1 off 5 overs. Ant came in and scored a couple of boundaries before being bowled unluckerly off his hip.

Trevor and Kilby steadied the ship and started to score at around 6 an over to keep us ahead of the run rate. Trevor became the 3rd bowled victim for 25 and this brought Gary to the crease (he had kept wicket excellently earlier). He hit one boundary and was then brilliantly run out from mid wicket. Alex and Kilby took us within 5 runs of the required score with 2.5 overs to spare, before Kilby was bowled. I joined Alex at the crease and we comfortably saw us home to a deserved victory. Alex finishing 15 not out.

Another really enjoyable game, and winning our 3rd game of the last four certainly helps. Thanks everyone for all the efforts and will keep you informed of anymore games this season.

Can't seem to find a thread for 2019 - apologies if there is one. Due to unforseen circumstances, I am now unable to play on Thursday - I know there were a few players on standby. Currently don't have access to whatsapp either, so could not let you know in the group chat.
