The GPG Premier League (formerly The GPG Championship) has now been reactivated. If you have previously entered you will be auto-enrolled when you reactivate your team. If you'd like to come and play the league code is

wzwjyj

I would like to keep all updates in this thread, if a kind moderator would rename it something like GPG Fantasy Premier League 21-22 please :) and move to Chit Chat if required, although my preference would be for it to stay in GBD. I will also endeavor to provide updates each week or two, primarily to please Wibs and secondarily to keep interest in the competition alive

Robbed of a Brentford past and present XV as Forshaw not listed as Leeds player...
Take out Toney and add a current midfielder and Andre Gray at Watford, was the only way I could find.

I'm planning on doing this for the first time, but waiting until more transfers done and/or nearer the Prem season kicking off (with us v Gooners!! 🤩). Any advantage or disadvantage to holding off?

You can make as many transfers as you like for free until the game starts.

In, with a team of current and ex bees players with a couple of ringers thrown in. still can’t get my head around the fact we‘re dining at the top table and probably wont until our maiden slot on Match of the day.

Thanks for organising. I'd gone off this a few years ago but there will certainly be a renewed interest!

strange, just double checked and there isnt a maximum number of teams that can enter a league so that shouldn't be an issue. let us know if a later attempt fails, or contact their customer services if there is an option for that.

There are about 200 entries so far

Just two weeks to go until the pride of London football start the Premier League season by ripping up the Arse.

Ivan Toney is currently the second most picked forward in the game, behind our old friend Ollie Watkins.
The most picked Brentford defender is Charlie Goode  2% of teams include the £4.0m rated player. Rico Henry is next best in 0.8% of squads.
In midfield Mbeumo is the choice of 1.3% of players, in second place is Zamburek  in 1% of teams, with Canos next best in 0.4% of teams.

4.0 defenders are very popular squad players for freeing up cash, particularly if there is any chance of them getting minutes.
John Lundstram was a genuine hero to many keen FPL managers when they listed him as a 4.0 defender for Sheffield United 2 years ago despite playing his whole career in midfield....and then he went to on have a great season, scoring 5 goals and racking up many clean sheet points as a "defender".

Expect a disproportionate level of interest from FPL fans on social media, about Goode's prospects of playing vs Arsenal. Zamburek likewise is the base price for a midfielder, 4.5m.

Given my team a bit of a refresh. Of course Toney is still in there - think he'll score in those opening 4 fixtures.

Gone for Mbeumo as well. Think he'll get goals and assists from midfield over the season. Might be a benchwarmer for stretches but shouldn't need transferring out of the squad which is okay at 5.5m in my opinion.

Gone for Watkins instead of Kane, so I can fit Son into the midfield, don't think kane will do as well this year with the speculation

I was "interviewed" about Ivan Toney by Fantasy Football Scout, via some online messaging, this weekend. Here is the article

Should I buy Ivan Toney in FPL? A Brentford fan’s perspective
Well done. Coincidentally I've just read that article and was impressed with the interview.

I wish I could say the same about the Brentford FPL correspondent on the Planet FPL podcast. I had to turn off after 5 minutes of the Brentford special this week after there were so many howlers from him, including 'its nearly 50 years since we were in the top flight' (I missed our glory days of the 1970's) and 'Midtjylland are basically our feeder club'.

Thank you for your kind words.

I mentioned the Planet FPL podcast on us back in early June on the first FPL thread and then saw a couple of others had groaned in another podcast thread. I imagine this one has similar comments from FPLDummyTom. Yes he was a bit vague on some of the BFC history (and it's not hard to find references to a 74 year absence in other media is it :)) I was disappointed he didn't know how exactly many play off campaigns we'd been in or when the first one was. But he's well over a decade younger than my 37 years, and credit to him for doing it, not sure I'd have come across well in an audio interview to be honest! He seems to know his way around our squad from what I recall which is what most listeners would care about.

If we sign Onyeka and Cajuste maybe there's something to be said for the feeder club argument :) feeder for ideas perhaps.

Well said. You are obviously much fairer minded and less grumpy than I am! One of the adjustments I'm going to have to make to life in the PL is accepting that a lot of people will be talking about us and not all of them will be died in the wool Bees who've been watching us for 50 years....

During the season, your fantasy football players will be allocated points based on their performance in the Premier League.

ActionPoints
For playing up to 60 minutes1
For playing 60 minutes or more (excluding stoppage time)2
For each goal scored by a goalkeeper or defender6
For each goal scored by a midfielder5
For each goal scored by a forward4
For each goal assist3
For a clean sheet by a goalkeeper or defender4
For a clean sheet by a midfielder1
For every 3 shot saves by a goalkeeper1
For each penalty save5
For each penalty miss-2
Bonus points for the best players in a match1-3
For every 2 goals conceded by a goalkeeper or defender-1
For each yellow card-1
For each red card-3
For each own goal-2

Clean sheets

A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60 minutes (excluding stoppage time).

If a player has been substituted when a goal is conceded this will not affect any clean sheet bonus.

Red Cards

If a player receives a red card, they will continue to be penalised for goals conceded by their team.

Red card deductions include any points deducted for yellow cards.

Assists

Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the final pass before a goal is scored. An assist is awarded whether the pass was intentional (that it actually creates the chance) or unintentional (that the player had to dribble the ball or an inadvertent touch or shot created the chance).

If an opposing player touches the ball after the final pass before a goal is scored, significantly altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is awarded. Should a touch by an opposing player be followed by a defensive error by another opposing outfield player then no assist will be awarded. If the goal scorer loses and then regains possession, then no assist is awarded.

Rebounds

If a shot on goal is blocked by an opposition player, is saved by a goalkeeper or hits the woodwork, and a goal is scored from the rebound, then an assist is awarded.

Own Goals

If a player shoots or passes the ball and forces an opposing player to put the ball in his own net, then an assist is awarded.

Penalties and Free-Kicks

In the event of a penalty or free-kick, the player earning the penalty or free-kick is awarded an assist if a goal is directly scored, but not if he takes it himself, in which case no assist is given.

Finalising Assists

Assist points awarded by Opta within Fantasy Premier League are calculated using additional stats which may differ from other websites. For example, some other sites would not show an assist where a player has won a penalty.

For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made.

Bonus Points

The Bonus Points System (BPS) utilises a range of statistics to create a BPS score for every player. The three best performing players in each match will be awarded bonus points. 3 points will be awarded to the highest scoring player, 2 to the second best and 1 to the third.

Examples of how bonus point ties will be resolved are as follows:

  • If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
  • If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
  • If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.

How is the BPS score calculated?

Players score BPS points based on the following statistics (one point for each unless otherwise stated):

ActionBPS
Playing 1 to 60 minutes3
Playing over 60 minutes6
Goalkeepers and defenders scoring a goal12
Midfielders scoring a goal18
Forwards scoring a goal24
Assists9
Goalkeepers and defenders keeping a clean sheet12
Saving a penalty15
Save2
Successful open play cross1
Creating a big chance (a chance where the receiving player should score)3
For every 2 clearances, blocks and interceptions (total)1
For every 3 recoveries1
Key pass1
Successful tackle (net*)2
Successful dribble1
Scoring the goal that wins a match3
70 to 79% pass completion (at least 30 passes attempted)2
80 to 89% pass completion (at least 30 passes attempted)4
90%+ pass completion (at least 30 passes attempted)6
Conceding a penalty-3
Missing a penalty-6
Yellow card-3
Red card-9
Own goal-6
Missing a big chance-3
Making an error which leads to a goal-3
Making an error which leads to an attempt at goal-1
Being tackled-1
Conceding a foul-1
Being caught offside-1
Shot off target-1
*Net successful tackles is the total of all successful tackles minus any unsuccessful tackles. Players will not be awarded negative BPS points for this statistic.

Data is supplied by Opta and once it has been marked as final will not be changed. We will not enter into discussion around any of the statistics used to calculate this score for any individual match.

Which Brentford players have you all gone for?

Pinnock - targeted on set pieces so he will get assists and the odd goal, and based off the Valencia game that's the plan this season, with so much height around him to throw other teams off even if they know it's going to him.

Mbeumo - he's too cheap. I must admit given Benrahma is only 0.5 more and getting game time then I keep swapping the two but with Bryan's preseason and end of season form, I really think he will get alot of assists, especially with his link up to Toney and will get a fair number of one on ones and goals. You only have to see the man united goal to see how composed he will be when he is confident.

Toney - do I need to say anything 😂

Interested to see if anyone has gone for anyone else?

I have Toney and Pinnock but have avoided a third Bees pick so far. I was equally tempted by Henry as he was getting well forward against Valencia but remember a defender gets 6 for a goal vs only 3 for an assist.

Mbeumo a good price and gets extra goal and clean sheet points as a midfielder...only if he plays up front though, not if in and out of the team at wing back again.

Onyeka at 5.0 could be a good option if he gets opportunities to shoot like Saturday.

I wish they had made Forss or Canos a bit cheaper to make them tempting cheaper alternatives....5.5 is too expensive to leave sat on FPL bench and they are only 0.5 less than Benrahma, Jack Harrison and Ismaila Sarr who I think will all play and score more. Remains to beseen how Mbeumo stands up against them.

I've thrown together this type of team for several years and GK was usually an easy one with Chesney, Button and Simon Moore knocking around at various points. Maybe just put Raya in ahead of Arsenal trying to unsettle him later this week :censored::nono:

I hadn't seen Simon Moore for years till he popped up on my TV playing for Coventry on Sunday.
Sorted my team now though. Pinnock out - Tyreik Mitchell in, then Raya in to replace Meslier. Here we go!

Excellent - I will join before Friday!

Incidentally, my mates and I run a PL Fantasy auction every year so you can imagine how great it was to bid on BEEEES players this year! Unfortunately I had to massively over pay for Toney as everyone else knew how much I wanted him, but hey-ho. I threw in Pinnock and Mbeumo as well to ensure a good squad balance :)
