I've been running this forum for over 20 years now. As well as time spent actually running it, I have also paid for the not inconsiderable sums of running-it over that period. This includes: hosting of the servers; bandwidth charges; storage; off-site back-ups costs; email services; software licenses; software support costs. All those services are provided professionally which you will have noticed from the exceptional reliability of the GPG.

I've never asked for any assistance for costs as during that time fans were either throwing coins into buckets, donating money via monthly Standing Orders to Bees United, taking out Bees United Loan Notes and doing whatever else was required to keep the club afloat. After that, Matthew has been pumping in over £100m and it seemed churlish to ask for money when Matthew was parting with so much cash. During the entirety of this time the GPG has remained (despite some 'attractive offers') ad-free. A concious decision that I believe has provided you with a vastly better experience than otherwise. A quick look at other forums will demonstrate that.

Additionally, the GPG has provided fans with
  • Lockdown Zoom Calls with Phil Giles, Thomas Frank, Jon Varney, Kevin O'Connor, Sam Saunders and Martin Allen
  • Hours of footage and thousands of pictures of the new stadium during construction via the Brentford FC Drone;
  • Provided you with the ability to put questions to Matthew, Thomas and others via our regular interviews and meet-ups.
and we would certainly to look to continue to provide similar activities.

Now that the club is financially stable (thanks to you-know-who and our recent promotion), I am asking for some entirely voluntarily donations to defray the costs. Buy Me a Coffee is our platform for donations. Please consider setting-up a "Membership" - which is a recurring monthly payment from £2 to £20. Otherwise you can "Support" us by purchasing 1 or more coffees at £2 a time on an one-off basis.

Nothing will change with regards to anyone's access to the GPG regardless of if you decide to support the running costs of it or not.

100% of the money raised will go to support the direct costs of the GPG.

You can donate here: The Grapevine is providing a forum for West London Premier League Fans

Thank you.

(Just a thought - might be better to add Apple Pay facility as well).
Probably a good time to say something I’ve intended for a while now. Namely that, in these days of checking out other clubs’ fan forums, GPG is light years ahead of any others I’ve seen - clear, accessible, easily navigated, no adverts and really smart architecture (is that the right word?) in general. Brilliant work, thanks very much.

I believe you can use Apple Pay and Google Pay via the Stripe link (the one that isn't Paypal)

Out of interest, how much does it cost to run on a monthly basis, and if you end up getting more cash than needed, what are the plans for it?
I'd rather not give a figure as it could suddenly change if we had to move supplier etc. But the amount spent so far over the time I have run it is massively into 5 figures if that helps.

As for "more cash than needed", well of course I will buy a paddle boat and hang around in Benham I's wake. More seriously, it will used for such things as i) more capacity on the GPG ii) more features on the GPG iii) more resilience for the GPG iv) other projects that fans would like; and if I can't think of anything, or am swimming in cash then we'll probably donate to other supporter groups (if they need it), or BFCCST or something equally as worthy.

There's also usage costs, a concrete example is emails - which cost a fortune to send - and I have to fork out for each one that is sent which, given our recent promotion, may lead to even higher levels of expenditure. So I'd like to anticipate these extra costs and defray them as far as possible.

I’ve blanked it out now but there was a link to another messageboard discussing our Wembley triumph that had so many ads and pop ups that I got a headache and couldn’t face clicking them all out to see what they were saying. The GPG is a veritable oasis of calm.

Many years of entertainment, information, technical help, inside information, speculation, revelation and mundane chit chat. GPG is now part of my fan experience. More than happy to donate.

Cheers - makes sense not sharing the specifics, but general range is good to know as with the donation levels on the site, could rise to a pretty big chunk of change very quickly.

Have donated, would be great if this stretched to helping out other supporter groups too (once it’s taken the financial burden off you) thanks for all the great work you do!

One thing to note on Trevor's post above - the previous software had an army of amateur developers that provided free add ons whereas with this software, most of the best additional features are built by professionals and therefore have to be paid for . We already purchased some in response to requests but there are far more resources that could be introduced if there was a desire to add them.

I think we all know that Banana isn't trying to Emulate Sir M of B, he merely wants to fund an unassuming pad on the French Riviera.

More importantly, as a member, am I now free to witter off-topic without fear of wrist-slapping or banishment?

Unfortunately there are no benefits one way or the other. We are egalitarian here on the GPG.

Many thanks for all the donations, much appreciated. Likewise the very kind comments that accompany a lot of them.

I am very happy to do this as a one off contribution just as soon as someone confirms this is indeed Banana and not some prince domiciled in Lagos that has hacked his account

Quick question. I've just bought 5 coffees for the time being. Where do I collect them? Do I just take my PayPal receipt in to Costa?

Honestly don't know how fans of other clubs put up with their message boards that look like they've just chucked a loads of articles posts and adverts in the air and see where they end up on the screen.

More than happy to pay for this, but curious is there an amount we can pay where it gives us the right to post stuff and pass of our own opinion as fact without the need to have to back it up?

Is GPG totally custom built? It has many bells and whistles ! Am just reading about the history of computers (Babbage/Lovelace etc), and maybe this will feature one day in the history of Fan-sites. Love the threads where people take the time and trouble to compile stuff. Thank you.

No, it uses xenforo forum software with some custom add ins, all configured to a GPG flavour.

Mailchimp is your friend.
Not really. We moved from them as mail was being dropped. With some cash we could get a dedicated IP for us rather than a shared one which brought it own (reputational) problems. This is one of the options we may now be able to persue.

Done. Should be enough petrol to get to the Isle of Wight*

*depending on how much petrol costs and how far from the Isle of Wight you start.

Sounds like a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
