Hull's Great days out thread just started on the back of yesterday's excellent turnout at Sarfend (!) got my mind wandering to previous great Bees days out.

Apart from the usual suspects of Wembleys, Millenium Stadiums, Peterborough, Blackburn and Liverpool '89, Darlington, Bimingham (x2), Cambridge in the promotion year etc etc, most seasons there is at least one memorable away day for a league and/or cup game. This season, for example, Pompey was special for me, especially as 'twas my 1st visit there, and whilst I wasn't able to go yesterday (although had my ticket, but also had 'the lurgey') I'm pretty sure I would've enjoyed it there.

In recent seasons Souhampton (league and cup) were excellent, Bournemouth with Scotty's team, some of the LooTown and Wycombe awaydays have been tasty, not forgetting Charlton in the cup, and a little further back some of the 2nd tier away games in '92/93 were excellent. Also Forest when we won 2-1, Reading when we took 2.5k+ fans to the Madstad, and Spurs (twice) in the League Cup.

I'm sure others have more games to add....

Three varied ones spring immediately to mind:

Newport County. March 1978. 2-1
Bristol City. New Year's Day 1988. 3-2
Hull City. April 1992. 3-0

Happy days :D

Too many too choose from, but Exeter 7-1,Wrexham 4-3 82/83 were special.

Watford 1-0 76/77.Just the day itself.Trying to get there by bunking every train and getting caught once or twice or maybe 3 times.Seemed to be running all the time.

York City was always good day/night out

Any trip to Donny was a mega piss up.

Walsall one year for asbeens birthday.Love to see the photos again of the piss up on the train on the way home with the blessing of the British Rail plod.

I'm sure I've still got some photo's from our trip to Exeter and also the Walsall game with the party poppers and 'The Monkees' blaring out of the stereo on the journey home. I'll see if i can dig them out of my mum's loft..... Wrexham on a Friday night, well that's a whole book in itself.....................

Barnet in that jpt game where we won 2-0 I think with glen Poole scoring both. Must have been double the amount of bees fans as allowed in that away stand!

Reading away in 2001 (over 11 years ago how time flies!) Is definitely up there, great stadium, against our promotion rival, I think we had something like 2,700.

Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in 2004 was very special, coming from behind to score two late goals with only 10 men for most of the match. One of the great Allen days IMO.

Also, not so much an away day as such but more a great away moment Notts County a couple of seasons back under Forster. For so long a dull end of season game with no importance to us at all but a crazy last 20 minutes. Karleigh gets knocked unconscious and ref gives a penalty, Moore saves then a few minutes later he gives another pen. I don't think I've been angrier at a football match in my life. Allen starts messing about, kicks the ball away and ends up getting 6 added minutes and Schlupp pops up with a 96th minute equaliser. We all go mental, the point meant nothing to us in the grand scheme of things but such joy to get revenge on those cheating c***s, Lee Hughes and his stupid dancing celebration and that ref. Never forget it!

Some good shouts but I always loved Bristol City away when Perryman incited a riot by warming down after our 3-2 win (3-0 up at half time). A Bliss wonderstrike a few days after he chinned Fatty Stannard.

Slough Town, 1974-75 i think, FA cup match played at Walton & Hersham's ground due to slough's new ground at wexham park not being up to scratch, Wimbledon in the FA cup 75-76 at Plough lane, seem to remember both these games being pretty lively on the terraces but just being 11/12 at the time my memories not so good ??
Remember my first proper altercation with opposing fans at Watford 76/77 when Paul Priddy saved two penalty's and we won 1-0, there carried a theme with them for the next few years ??
Blackburn away in the League cup 82-83 great scene's after we progressed through after Ron Harris had a hand of god moment defending a corner, and messy day up at Oldham FA cup early Nineties ??
So Many more i'm surprised i survived ???

I can still remember dodging the pool balls raining down on us in the corner of their end............... Happy days....
And a few dozen Brentford being led around the touchline to the away end after what looked like a right old tear up in the home end. Lots of claret IIRC.

The Blackburn Away win in the 88/89 FA cup run meaning we had made the 1/4 finals was very special. I was actually moved to tears at the final whistle.
Cardiff away in 1971 (ish) in that cup run. They were top of the old 2nd division & we were very close to the bottom of the 4th. Result we won 2-0on a very wet pitch (it would have been called off in todays game).
For both these games a number of football specials were arranged by British Rail. These started at Ealing Broadway and for the Cardiff game stopped at Hayes & Southall to pick more supporters on the way. Much drinking and celebration took place on the trains.
Numerous other special away days as well but those 2 really stick out for me.

Rochdale in 76-77 last game of the season.
Got to Manc Picadilly in time to see Man City fans off to Coventry(?).
We had the same scarves as Man Utd and the London Reds were active then. One City fan got about 3 platforms away before the OB grabbed him.
Walking through the Arndale Centre singing 'Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner'!
In the pub at Dale ran out of food-'Who ate all the pies?'-mutton they were and very tasty.
won the game 3-2, with a certain GPGer hobbling around with a dodgy leg.
Back to Manchester and cabbed to picadilly in a subdued mood as the city was packed.
Arsenal fans on the train back and a slight difference of opinion resulted in a ruck-not the Rugby variety.
As we approached Euston, we could hear the Bubbles song. West Ham had drawn at Liverpool and stayed up.
Between a rock and a hard place got to the tube and a pizza at that place near South Ealing that stayed open late-rare in those days.
Peterborough and Champions obviously and Watford 77-78 getting a point to be sure of going up. Grimsby next away game as well.
great memories!

Think the game mentioned here was the 0-0 last game/away game of 80-81. The 3-0 was a tues night same year but following season.

I went on coach as a 10 year old but wasn't allowed for the midweek one.

I'm sure we took it easy on the pitch in that game as Swindon needed a point to guarantee survival and we weren't arsed. Don't think we got near their goal at all. The halftime manouevres in the Town End were someting else though although I must add I was watching from the main stand as ex-GPGer Nigel Brooks blagged tickets off, I believe, Gary Roberts.

My favourite is Tottenham away in 92. Huge turnout of Bees that night.
