Was on my travels most of last season, had arranged to be back for the last three games at GP to say goodbye to the old girl but as we all know that never happened, due to mixture of work and lockdown couldn't get a chance to pay a visit and walk around GP one last time, last game / time there was boxing day v Swansea, seeing that video makes me feel ill. God bless you GP x

Quite symbolic that the death of GP comes the day after a Brentford Legend passed away.

I've actually met Rip Griffin, in a truck stop in Terrell Texas. I bet he's not with us today. So it would be RIP RIP.

Wow, that made my stomach churn. To think of the amount of family members this combined forum had sitting in there at one point or another from yesteryear... I think i've had 5 generations of family sit in those old stands.

For me the pre COVID Sheffield Wednesday game was always going to be my last at GP and seeing the pictures of its demolishment makes me feel very sad.

Having attended the majority of Home games from 1957 onwards GP has always been my “ safe haven” a place to forget all the daily trials and tribulations and be excited watching my heroes play in the famous Red and White, from Kenny Coote Tommy Higginson John O’Mara up to the sparkling skills of Benrahma they will all live forever in my memories.

A positive cornucopia of emotions over the years from the highs to the numerous lows GP never failed to excite me. She was old and decrepit, a laughing stock to fans of clubs in bright new stadiums who had a history of success, but she was our old stadium. Somewhere we went with family and friends, somewhere to learn and appreciate the values in supporting a club struggling, before MB, to rub 2 half pennies together. A family of football lovers.

With its demolition it’s like turning the final page in a well thumbed book and returning it to the shelf where it can be dusted off from time to time and the memories be allowed to come to life again.

A sad day in my life but for many the journey is just starting and if you all get the same enjoyment at LR as I have done in over 60 years at GP then you will be truly blessed

Ealing Road roof and crush barriers have been removed. Most seats in New Road and pretty much all in the Brook Road have been removed.
Just drove past the old girl. It’s certainly changed since I last went there last week! 😱

When you think about it im sure there would be loads of non league clubs that would love bits and pieces from the ground. So many seats, rails, bits of the stands that could be used. Just the taking down, transport and restructuring required that could be an issue. Clubs like Hampton & Rich, Hanworth Villa, Bedfont, etc etc must be able to re use some bits and bobs.
I heard that some of the equipment from the medical room ended up at my local club Harrow Borough. 👍

I don't know what to say - horrible to read. Having seen some demolition at my place of work recently nothing much seems to happen for ages but once they getting going they don't muck about.

Once the demolition guys get started they don’t take long. They do a lot of pre work, get services capped off , what can they sell

Seen two large factories , once they have removes all heavy duty power lines . There were large numbers of pitched roofs. The real money makers here was the thousands of Welsh Slates. Once the roofs were dropped the slates were loaded up of to dozens artics and taken away . Metals put into size piles . As with Griffin Park stands the upright supports will be worth some good money

That's it! You cannot get any closer unless you can bribe the workmen or ask the resident on the top floor of Ealing Road flats to use their window to take some pictures from!! :)

Thanks for posting the pics WP.
It somehow helps in adjusting the mind to fully accepting that we’re never going back.

I may be in the minority but I don't mind seeing pics of the old girl being taken apart. The fact it will never be left to rot, desolate and overgrown is better for me.
... and, bizarrely, seeing a view of New Road terracing brought back a flood of happy memories. Hopefully there will be one last pic of a few steps left at the foot of the Royal Oak once the Wendy House is demolished.

I took a walk down there yesterday as well, very little has changed from the outside (just that initial hole they made that has been widely shared). However I think we can tell most of the work or damage has been done on the internal structures.

I thought about wondering up to the new stadium, but will take all of that in the day of the first competitive game there.

Just been passed GP today. Nothing going on no one in site and no activity. Thought I'd try and have a peek over the low wall at the corner of NR and BR in the flat's car park but they've now put up big black hoardings there also. You'd think it was some top secret government establishment but I suppose it's all down to H&S.

Are these not the same ones that were there for last season? Or have they really put up new ones. If new ones I guess it would be to secure the site from trespasses rather than photographers - but who knows for sure!

They've put up bigger ones than the what was there prior to them taking over the site. You can't just tip toe and look into the ground now.

Isn’t that fella the one who was asking about when the demolition was starting on here?
I’m surprised he didn’t crack one out on the crash barrier.
The bloody ghoul.
It would appear so. He got a little bit of stick with some of his posts on here which seemed a bit unnecessary but seeing him stood there grinning in those pics and looting genuine bits of memorabilia has actually pi*sed me off.

Whats the deal then, we just turn up in a hardhat and high vis and we can take a few lumps of the ground home for our collection and definitely not to sell on ebay sometime when the price is peaking?

It's a bit strong to use the term "looting" for taking eight inches of metal piping which would otherwise have gone to a scrap yard or into a skip, no?

I mean, he's not harming anyone, or preventing anyone else from doing the same, is he?

Though if that's the sort of thing which he collects, then God help his girlfrie..... Actually, you can ignore that last bit!
