Great signing and I'm glad they've waited until January. A 19yr old who's only just broken into the first team at a Dutch second division side shouldn't be burdened with leading the line for us and replacing the best striker we have ever had, with inevitable stick if it's not an immediate success. He is one for the future and now gets six months at a club he knows testing himself in the Dutch top flight.

Just hope he doesn't get injured before he joins us. Sounds a fantastic prospect as a CF and if he gets good experience in the Dutch top flight while we gel as a squad, he could be that little bit of dynamite we need in the back end of the season.

Excited by this signing - in fact I am excited by all the players we have recruited to the first team. A striker I personally believe we have brought for next year.

Late announcement suggests that I and others weren’t a million miles wide of the mark in suggesting we were looking to get him in earlier

https://www.sparta-rotterdam.nl/halil-dervisoglu-winterstop-naar-brentford-fc/

"There were many clubs interested in Halil," says Henk van Stee. “We knew it would be difficult to keep him at Sparta, so privately came up with a set of requirements for his transfer. Brentford FC came up with an offer that met our conditions, both financial and sporting. We didn't just think about the transfer fee, but more importantly, how Sparta can stay in the Eredivisie, which is why we set the condition that Halil stays at Sparta at least until the winter break to make a contribution to our sporting ambition, together with his teammates. It also gives us the opportunity to find a full successor to Halil in the coming months. All in all, we believe that this is a good deal for both the club and player. ”

Nicely played DoFs ;)

I wonder whether a similar conversation might have been had with Villa regarding Benrahma... :fishing:

That Sparta academy has knocked out a few talents....Depay, Wijnaldum, Strootman and Anwar El Ghazi (and that's just a few of the current crop btw).

All the best Halil and make sure you end up on that list on their Wiki page in a few years time after tearing it up with the Bees.

We've played this one well. Very few clubs would have done this. I really like this signing.

The best bit is that the Turkish press (Hürriyet) suggests that not only did three of the big four Turkish teams want him, but also SC Braga of Portugal and... good old Brighton. So that's 2021's sell-on price guaranteed in the unlikely event that they're still in the PL and we're not ;)

It's a good deal! Allows him more development time and allows us to try Ollie or Marcondes in the role for a few months. Ollie's new 4.5yr contract extension may be on the basis of playing as the main striker here...and we promised we could turn him into a proper forward if he stayed.

We will have backup/competition from Jan in Halil, who has the promise to develop a lot more in the future.

Good all round business, and how this was dealt with shows a complete contrast to how the Ghoddos agents went about business. We're in a very good place as a club.

Not to mention Forss as a central attacking option also

Maybe time for the BFC website to look at getting a new font – the current one can't handle the diactrics on all these overseas lads’ names!

Maybe we can have a quiet january as the striker issue is settled. If Said does the business then he'll be off but we have already signed his replacement.

I didn't know that George Francis, Billy McAdam, Deano et al were still playing for us and needed to be replaced.:).

10. Dervisoglu gives himself a chance to shoot after a good action with which he eliminates two defenders, but does not get the ball between the posts. #spavvv

just scored a great goal. Had the ball on the line 15 yards from goal, step over and drove into the penalty area and circled into bottom right corner

HE'S JUST SCORED!!
In the words of Maximus: “Are you not entertained? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? Is this not why you're here?” Could be the tag line for our season with the new recruits :)
