I'd love to know the story behind this. He is highly rated and we even succumb to Sparta's wishes and let them hang on to him until the end of December. He joins in Jan, we I guess look to feed him in gently and then lock down hits. After that BMW rules and he unsurprisingly doesn't get much of a look in. I really thought he'd be brought on this season, then we out him! OK, only a loan, but for the whole season? Something odd here.

Looked good
Really pleased for him, he's a cracking prospect. Just look at his half season at Sparta.. I think the COVID thing came at a terrible time for him, he's behind in his development with us and Forss is just that little bit further down the line than him. It was hard for him to even get on the bench this season. A good season with Twente will see him back here firing on all cylinders, you watch....

Hope you're right.

Our recruitment tends to be forward looking for our anticipated needs a season or two hence. There are some exceptions like Pontus. It might be that Halil was/is seen as someone who would flourish where we’d hoped to be this season or next, in the PL, rather than as a player who’d do an immediate job in the Championship. Which would explain why we were happy for him to develop an extra half season at Sparta rather than come straightaway to challenge Ollie. On that basis, maybe we might see him back if we go up.

The defence he played against tonight was at least as good as any he’d face in the Championship (3 playing at this level for Norwich and Swansea, one PL player) so he’s clearly got something we could use. The penalty was poor and he did rather delay his fall to ensure he won it after losing control, but was caught by the keeper, but splitting the defence running through like that in the first place was impressive.

Yeah, he certainly hasn’t been given a decent chance. Maybe it’s a work rate off the ball issue but I’d have him behind Toney and on the bench.

It’s a close call. Forss is probably our best finisher at the club but lacks strength. There is something about Halil that I like and hopefully he’ll come back to us and get a proper chance.
I think Dervisoglu is probably a more skilful player than Forss. Forss is very direct whereas Halil has great feet and an eye for a pass but at the moment Forss is probably 6 months to a year ahead in his development. He has the advantage though of having come through the B team and the AFC loan and knows our game inside out. I saw Dervisoglu in a couple of B team games and he was struggling a little with the pressing game we were asking him to do. Will be interesting to see how he does at Twente and where he plays. I think he's got massive potential and hopefully we can see that come to fruition here..

I’ve liked the little I’ve seen of him too. We obviously value him quite highly, otherwise Twente might have been able to buy him. I wonder if we’ve rejigged his ‘pathway’, and he’ll come back to replace the multi-million £ sale of Mbuemo next summer?

He was a proper handful against England tonight, sh*t penalty but other than that was a thorn in the side start to finish,

I think so. Twente were apparently interested in a buying option but were way off being able to afford it. That indicates to me that we believe in him and we expect him to come back and show what he's about..

Watching that England U21 defensive performance was like watching ours against Preston all over again, they were shocking tonight!

On current form Mbuemo isn't going anywhere next summer. Would have like to have seen Halil on loan in this country, maybe at Wycombe or Barnsley. I'm sure this would have helped him development in this league.
