3 year deal, £2.2M plus performance related add-ons I'm reading.

Disappointing though likely for a long time.
Always seems strange when you click on here and the 294 pages are replaced with a 'Harlee Dean' thread and two posts.
Players move on but he was one we could have done with staying in an ideal world given our present position.

I like these mods, ruthless bastards, forgotten already, now consigned to a forum with the likes of other CB's, Sodje, Millen, Ashby, Westley, Bates.

The only club I believe that actually made a bid for him he ends up signing for. He left because he got himself a better deal and one can't blame him for that. However, the fact that only Birmingham made a bid for him probably is more revealing. Had a great year last but indifferent previous 5. Thanks for the memories.

Thought he had turned himself into a leading Championship centre back last season, so it'll be a miss to the side, however he'll be joining unfamiliar surroundings where he'll lack the credit and authority he had has at Brentford, and joining a club that is frequently in turmoil. It'll be interesting to see whether this move benefits his career, or if this is as good as it gets for him.

Losing Bidwell and Button was no issue to us last season, so lets hope that this is the case again.

With the amount of goals we've conceded in each of the last 4 seasons, i'm struggling to be too upset that a defender is leaving.

He did - not quite 'derisory' but he wanted to be top earner - we offered nowhere near.

Bit ruthless, but I kind of find myself agreeing with you.

He really isn't good enough to play higher than the championship. He served us well and will earn more than we can afford to pay at Birmingham. However, he won't be playing with better players and certainly won't be challenging for a top 6 finish with Harry.

Very succinctly put.

I'll never understand why people on here rate him so highly. Perhaps they value effort more than ability? In the way we play our 4-3-3 system, we need our centre backs after winning the ball, to play it out from the back, initiate attacks, head up and play a pass. He was never good enough to be able to do that. In his primary role as a defender he was good, great aerially, gave 100% and was never afraid to get stuck in, but we need more than that from our players.

Birmingham is probably a good move for him, he can excel in his primary role there whilst earning more money.

I've never been a big Harlee fan, but nevertheless, I admire his long term commitment and the effort he put in, he was a great servant to the club and wish him and his family all the very best success at his new club.

Or James Tarkowski or Andre Gray or Adam Forshaw

Then he can have a word with their bank managers.
2 players we sold for a vast profit , the system works then :sorted:

I can't see him being first choice at Birmingham, but perhaps he will be content with sitting on the bench.

Sad to see Harlee go - he cared, whatever you think of his ability. Supporters' player of the year last season, now you're hard pushed to find anyone to say a good word about him on here. Wish he'd got a better deal, hard to believe we live in a world where HD is worth less than the donkey Aden Flint. Personally think we'll miss HD more than Jota.

Good luck to him. He has worked hard to become a better player in his time with us. I personally didn't think he would make it into the championship with us but he proved me wrong. He will be a big miss but I don't begrudge him making the most money he can for his young family.

A big loss. Sad to see him go. He's berated by keyboard warriors who have never spent as much as a second in his company. I wish him well. He can look back at his spell at Brentford with pride.

He took quite a while to get the unforced errors out of his game. Once he did this he became a decent centre back. Good defensively, comfortable on the ball and good coming out of defence.
He also was authoritative and got the respect of his fellow players.
He was a leader and we do no have others in the team like him.
I think we will miss him unless DoF pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Yes it shows he's not that well regarded elsewhere,

A very good competitor for us - passion heart and more ability than some credit him for. Shame to see him depart. Wishing him the best in his future career apart from when he plays against us for course.

Thanks Harley for all your efforts, you've always put in a shift. One of footballs good guys.

Good luck in the future, unless you're playing against us.

Would have preferred to see you go to a better club than Brum.

He's not played that well against Brum in the past, remember him cocking up for their late winner on New Years game up there a couple of years ago. Hopefully St Andrews is a bogey ground for him lol lol

Sad day- Good Luck Harlee - Head & Shoulders literally above any others we have in that position . We are now weaker and have lost a leader with Heart.

His commitment and honesty made him popular.I liked him. Sometimes that can influence assessment. I wish him well. He is an average Championship cb which in footballing terms is an achievement and something I didn't think he would become. No club with promotion aspirations would come in for him. He will be a short term loss for us but we needed an improvement if we are to realise what MB wants. That's my cold assessment. Clubs weren't kicking the door down and good old Harry isn't the wisest when it comes to spending money. A good deal for us.

I am sure he received a good recommendation from Carsley. Sometimes it is that knowledge gained through personal relationships that tells the most.

Best of Luck Harlee, don't think BC are heading anywhere in particular and sorry to see you go - but at least you didn't head 5 miles West.

I've got plenty of good words to say about him as have others.
When we needed a leader he stepped up, he's a lovely lad with a bit of something about him so will do well in life. Smart, friendly, funny, decent, thoughtful and respected and very popular with the playing staff and management at the club.
His family are smashing people and while he never made legendary status he did well by us and we did well by him.
I think he'll be missed more than some think but now trust that others will step up and fulfil their potential. John Egan came highly rated and looked great at the beginning of last season but injury and form has prohibited him kicking on but maybe now is his time.

Good luck Harlee

The least appreciated 250 appearance player we've had...a huge loss .I fully expect him to be first choice up there as he's had plenty of battles in his time with us and always came out with the shirt.....I don't think they'll be near the bottom this season.

One of my favouritest ever GP moments, standing right in line behind the goal as by some miracle his speculative Peter Kay toe poke went in. Thanks for the memories.

edit: after he'd ****ed up for their first of course. HD epitomised.
