let’s be very honest....the bad news...if toneys out for 3 weeks (5 or 6 games) and Rico for double that then automatic promotion isn’t going to happen no matter how much we all want it....Toney is sooooo vital to this team and unfortunately he’s not replaceable no matter how decent forss might be in the future....it’s too big a loss for us to cover....the next half dozen games we won’t get much from but we will scrape enough points to be in the play offs in prob 5th or 6th

The good news is that by the time these come along our team SHOULD be back to full strength and we can go into the play offs in a strong position....of course this being the playoffs and our depressing record in them it will be even more difficult BUT we can only hope that after 9 failures we are one day going to do it and maybe it will be this year ?

Cue the abuse about not getting behind the team but I can only see this scenario happening and maybe we get a bit of luck for once ;)

A bit better. Time's a great healer. ;) By the end of the week you'll be penning "Why Brentford will be promoted as champions". 🤣
Yep....in the good/bad old days after a bad defeat you could just leave the ground and go looking for some rival thugs to punch in the face, but now all you have is the interweb to express your disappointment !!!! Lol

Yep used to do that all the time. Ended up burying one or two under the arches. Had to keep it quiet from my teaching colleagues obviously.

It's funny how confident we are when we see the team's we put out in the cup and still have faith.

We just need to regain our confidence with our tippy tappy passing... too many of which have gone astray recently resulting in us loosing the ball.

We won't be the only team to wobble. The league is a lot stronger since Christmas with teams like Barnsley, Cardiff and QPR hitting form... 12 teams are probably in a relegation fight so expect shocks

That’s a decent shout. I feel a bit better about things today too. I reckon Norwich are nailed on and Watford have had their wobble. Really surprised with Swansea yesterday and maybe they are not quite as good as they/we thought. Reading aren’t all that and Muff seem in disarray.
Cardiff are coming up on the rails but possibly new manager bounce that will ease off. All clubs are going to run out of steam for a few games. We just need to regroup and get the defence right. Norgaard back will be huge and we can look forward to finishing the season strongly. If we don’t quite get the autos then POs beckon maybe with crowds. Perhaps it’s written in the stars...

You have failed to account for Marcondes returning from injury.

Have you factored in QPR doing more than just possibly staying up this season perhaps?

Reading won't make top 6 and Muff aren't restored to rude health so one (possibly) two of Cardiff, them and Barnsley(?) may make it.

Negative? I don't see that. We have just lost two very influential players for a period, Norwich now 7 points clear and Swansea one point behind but with two games in hand. Things are going to be tough for the next five or six games, so autos now very difficult. But what most are saying is, not to worry, get all our players back just before the play-offs, give it a go and there is every chance we will get promoted that way. Whats negative about that?

Its going to be difficult with Henry out (arguably our most consistent player). However, I think that TF will need to step up another gear and show us all that he has what it takes to be a winner to get us over the line. Even nice guys win. We just need to be more ruthless and want it more.

To be fair we have just had the WORST week possible, when just 8 days ago every bees fan and possibly everyone else thought we were an unstoppable juggernaut, other teams fans calling us champions elect. We are bound to feel abit negative but everyone just needs to remember the reason we are here, keep calm and carry on. Autos will be tough now given the depleted squad but we always do things the hard way and im sure there will be some more ups and downs before the end of the season. COYB

Play offs and we’re there to see us finally get it done. It’s written in the stars.

I'd hate to be in TF's position. Does he do what he did last year - keep picking the mainstays, in the hope we make the top 2 (then fail and find we've burnt ourselves out for the POs). Very similar position now, except about 5 games earlier without the benefit of an enforced rest. Of course, he has to go for the top 2, but if we don't make the autos, I would say our chances in the POs are incredibly slim. You need a bit of luck and incredible resilience. If it was just about the best players/team, we'd cruise it. I don't see a team that have buckled under pressure at the end of last season and in the current dip being mentally tough enough to get that monkey of 9 (?) play off defeats off the club's shoulders. That's a far more pressurised situation than others the players have faced. At this stage of the season, we have a great chance of top 2, but we need players back urgently.

the same stars where super kev was supposed to send us up to the championship with a last minute pen?
or secure promotion to the prem with the final ever game at gp only to lose to barnsley? :O

I think the OP neglects to consider the impact injuries and fatigue are having on the teams around us. Watford have lost Deeney for at least a few weeks and Swansea are struggling too. If Ayew or Lowe are ruled out then that leaves them with less goalscoring potential than us without Toney. Reading are inconsistent and Bornemouth badly need a new manager bounce.

Although you always get one or two teams who finish the season well I can't see anyone in the following pack overhauling us and although Cardiff's run of form is looking ominous, we know only too well what the end of an unbeaten run can do!

Exactly, and Norwich went four without a win recently when they lost Buendia. Everyone in and around us will be having similar issues and dips due to the sheer volume of games being played in such a short time. Swansea have two games in hand to make up too which will put extra strain on their squad. Reading the Swans board, Ayew and Lowe are already run into the ground.

I think it will take a few more games before we return to anything like decent form. Never mind the players who are clearly out of form we have probably our four most influential players missing at the moment. We need to grind this out and the games after Sheff Wed are not ideal for this. A narrow win over SW then a few draws would be OK as we will, hopefully, get stronger in the last ten games which might be enough as other sides are also suffering. Three PO games and a short close season in the summer and eight Cup games have taken their toll.
